R. Wendall McCreery, Sr

mccreery.jpg (4111 bytes)R. Wendall “Scab” McCreery Sr., 72 died Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at Ovid Healthcare Center. Wendall was born October 2, 1932 in St. Johns the son of Millard and Letha Albaugh McCreery. He graduated from Ovid High School and was a self employed milk hauler for 45 years, a trucker and Ovid Public Schools bus driver. On October 15, 1950 he married Mary Ellen Carroll in St. Johns. Wendall was an avid sports enthusiast and loved farming.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; a daughter Susie G. Cole of Lansing; Grandchildren, Jessie and Alex Bedoway, Josh and Kirsten Cole, Shannon and Abdiel Rocha, Gavin McCreery, Tessa McCreery and Chloe McCreery; Great Grandchildren, Vivian, Justin, Evelyn, Kailin, Taylor, Shan and Annabel; brothers, Corky and Janet McCreery and Rodney and Linda McCreery both of Ovid; a sister, Bonnie and Ron Kelly of Florida.  He was preceded in death by his son, Richard in 2001.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at Holy Family Catholic Church, Ovid on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Fr. Ray Urbanek officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Rosary services will be at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Friday evening at 8:00 P.M. The family will receive friends at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns, 224-4422 on Thursday,  6-9 P.M. and Friday, 2-4 and 6-9 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.

Lynn A. Merignac

Lynn A. Merignac was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, April 23, 2006 at the age of 52. He was born December 12, 1953 in St. Johns, MI the son of Lawrence (Louie) and Dorothy (Magsig) Merignac. He was a Project Manager for Dimension Data in Charlotte, NC and was associated with Threshold Church in Matthews, NC. Lynn was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn Merignac of Waxhaw, NC; daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and David Luongo and grandchildren Victoria and Colin all of Atlanta, GA; parents, Lawrence and Dorothy Merignac; sister, Sue (Jerry) Bishop; brother Doug (Holly) Merignac all of St. Johns, MI.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday, April 28, 2006 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns 989-224-4422 with Pastor Tim Knaus officiating. Interment will follow at DeWitt Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 until 8 pm Thursday, April 27, 2006 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to The Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, 1111 Stewart Ave., Bethpage, NY 11714 or to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 E. 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204.

Beverly J. Schneider

Schneider-Beverly.jpg (5460 bytes)Beverley J. Schneider died April 22, 2006, at the age of 80. She was born in Lansing, Michigan on August 29, 1925, the daughter of Manley and Thelma (Torgerson) Martin, lived in St. Johns, moved to Virginia for 25 years, then came back two years ago to the Mecosta area. Beverley was a tiny and fiesty lady, loved flowers, plants and to can from her big garden. She was sweet, fun, loved to talk, had a great memory, was sharp as a tack, loved animals and almost always had at least one dog. She was a homemaker, loved to serve her husband, Tony, and was his rock. Beverley married Anthony J. Schneider and he survives her.

Also surviving is her sister, Shirley Reynolds of Rodney, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Schneider.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Monday at the Osgood Funeral Home with a vigil service 8 P.M. Monday. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to Mecosta County Senior Center.

Charles C. Schrauben

schrauben_charles.jpg (4872 bytes)Charles C. Schrauben Lansing, MI Age 80, passed away surrounded by his family on April 20, 2006, in Lansing. Charles was born to Charles and Regina (Feneis) Schrauben on June 20, 1925, in Riley Township, MI, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, in 2000, his parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Surviving are his daughters, Patricia, Judy Lieder, Debra Gilmore and Pamela Hile; brother, Mark; sisters, Peggy Gregg, Rosie Babcock and Evelyn Kent; and many nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services are planned in Deepdale Cemetery, Lansing. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Hospice of Lansing, 6035 Executive Dr., Suite 103, Lansing, MI 48911-5338, in memory of Charles.

Duane Platte

Platte-Duane.jpg (13610 bytes)Duane Platte passed away April 20, 2006, at the age of 66. He was born November 20, 1939 and married the love of his life, Barb Hafner, on November 4, 1959. Duane lived a full life and accomplished many dreams. He worked for the Highway Department, owned a furniture store, took over the family farm, started a refrigeration business, served St. Mary’s parish as a custodian, and owned and operated the Westphalia Hardware store. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He loved family, worked hard, and believed in commitment and loyalty. He lit up at the sight of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His pet dogs, Gabby and Kelli were his constant companions.

He is survived by his loving family, wife, Barb, sons, Lon (Cindy), Terry, and Marty (Gaye), daughters, Mary Lou (Dan) O’Malley and Cheryl (Wes) Richard, 16 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Marie (Dick) Thelen, Therese (Ed) Perrien, Sharon (Clark) Becker, and Mary Catherine, brothers, Gerald (Nancy) and Joe (Mary), sister-in-law, Patty (Ivan) Fink, and brother-in-law, Cel Simon. He is preceded in death by his parents, Aloysius and Louise Platte, and sister, Grace Simon.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 22, 2006 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 201 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia, burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery with the Rev. Fr. Cecilio Reyna officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Friday at St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel with a Rosary Service to be prayed at 3 and 8 P.M. The family is being served by the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns.

Gerald Joseph  Stambersky

stambersky_gerald.jpg (4106 bytes)Gerald Joseph Stambersky age 73 of Elsie, Michigan died April 19, 2006 at Edward Sparrow Hospital Lansing, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on April 22, 2006 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Edwin Snook will officiate with burial at Riverside Cemetery Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 21, 2006 from 2-8 with family present 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.

Gerald was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 29, 1932 the son of Joseph and Sophia ( Pointek )Stambersky . He resided most of his life in Elsie, Michigan. Gerald married Carol Jean Solomon on November 19, 1954 in Angola, Indiana. Carol died October 22, 2003. He retired from G.M. in 1986 after 33 years of service. He owned and operated a lawncare business in Elsie. He liked listening and dancing to polka music, flying remote control airplanes, and traveling in the winter to Arizona.

He is survived by 3 sons Laurence Stambersky of Glasgow, KY, Neil and Kristi Stambersky of Ovid, MI, Steven and Colleen Stambersky of Flushing, MI, 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, sister Johanna Kristin of Bannister, MI, special friend Emma Merrill of Corunna, MI. He is predeceased by his parents, wife, and brother David.

Memorials may be made to WOES Polka Radio Program. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Rosemary A. Snyder,  64, died Monday. Memorial services 11 a.m. Friday at The Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge, Lansing. Arrangements by Gorsline-Runciman, Lansing.
