Clara C. Knoop

knoop_clara.jpg (5107 bytes)Clara C. Knoop Westphalia, MI Age 93, passed away Monday, June 5, 2006. She was born on December 30, 1912 in Westphalia the daughter of George and Anna (Koenigsknecht) Thelen. Mrs. Knoop was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Westphalia. She was a member of the Christian Mothers and Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed gardening and quilting. Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; daughter, Jane; grandsons, Bruce and Timmy Rowell; sister, Eva Simon; and brothers, Alfred, Otto and Gregor Thelen.

She is survived by her children, Catherine (Ray) Rowell of Fowler, Ann Marie (Lawrence) Pung of Portland; Judy (Ray) Fedewa of Portland, Rita (Wayne) Thelen of Lima, Ohio, Henry (Donelyn) Knoop of Ionia, John (Cynthia) Knoop of Portland, and Dennis Knoop of Fenwick; her brother Edmund (Lillian) Thelen and sister-in-law, Mabelle Thelen.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Cecilio Reyna, Pastor and Rev. Karl Pung (Mrs. Knoop's grandson) at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 8, 2006 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St. The Rosaries will be prayed at 8 p.m. on Tuesday and 3 p.m. on Wednesday. A Scripture Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m., Wednesday. For those wishing, contributions may be made to the Fr. Al Miller Trust Fund. Arrangements are being handled by Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.

Wayne J. Lobert

lobert_wayne.jpg (4271 bytes)Wayne J. Lobert age 74, died June 5, 2006 in Charlotte, Michigan. He was born in Eaton Co., the son of Ralph and Anna (Helmkamp) Lobert. He was an Industrial Engineer for GM and retired after 41 years of service. Wayne was also a bus driver for 7 years in the Lansing School District, a driver for the Amish, loved to go to the casino and hated green peppers and cucumbers. He enjoyed life at its best! Wayne married Rita Thornton on June 20, 1987 and she preceded him in death on September 25, 1995.

He is survived by daughters, Annette (George) Warner of Onondaga, Debra (Robert) Drewyor of Beebe, AR., stepdaughter, Cindy (Mark) Reetz of Grayling, stepsons, Steve (Pam) Thornton of Port Huron, Rod Thornton of CA., six grandchildren, Wade (Stephanie) Warner, Matt Warner, Kailee (Frank) Edging, Nikea Drewyor, Jesse Drewyor, Bobby Drewyor, three step-grandchildren, Curtis (Amanda), Jeffrey and Kristin Thornton, great grandchildren, Dominic, Kaleb, Shelby and Kenna Warner, McKenna, Nicholas and Ashton DeAngelo, sisters, Mary Cole of St. Johns, Ila Sommers of Dimondale, brother, Roger (Mary) Lobert of Houghton Lake, sister-in-laws, Joyce Lobert of Lansing and Jeanne Lobert of Dimondale and special angel, Wilma Risner. Wayne was preceded in death by wife, Rita and brothers, John and Ron Lobert.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M., Thursday, June 8, 2006 at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., with burial at South Bingham Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Wednesday, 2-4 P.M and 6-8 P.M. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to Eaton Community Hospice.

Kirk L. Hiner

hiner_kirk.jpg (3951 bytes)Kirk L. Hiner died June 3, 2006, at the age of 59. Born on June 25, 1946, the son of Stanley and Frances Hiner. Kirk was raised in Michigan before moving to Florida in 1972. He was an Electronics Technician and a Vietnam Era Navy Vet honorably discharged on June 15, 1970. He was also a member of the Lions Club International since 1988, served as Secretary and President of Central Blvd Lions Club, Zone Chair for District 35A, Treasurer for Diabetes Awareness, Drive Director for Southeastern Guide Dogs, Inc., member of the board of directors for Miami Lakes Lions Club. Kirk was honored with a Melvin Jones Fellow and Life Member of the Florida Lions Foundation. Kirk married Margaret in Pembroke Pines, Florida on April 5, 1997 and she survives him.

Also surviving is his mother, Frances (Richard) Homer, brothers, Gary (Mavis), Evan, David (Nora) and Brent (Beth), sister, Donnalee (Jim) North, 19 nieces and nephews, 19 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Hiner.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 10, 2006 at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, burial at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery, Fowler, with the Rev. Fr. David D. Pike officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday and Friday at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to Southeastern Guide Dog, Inc., 4210 77th St. East, Palmetto, FL 34221.

Elizabeth A. Kramer

Born in Fowler on July 10, 1924, the daughter of Edward and Laura (Goerge) Schafer, Betty was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Most Holy Trinity Choir and the Daughters of Isabella. Elizabeth married Clayton Kramer in Fowler on May 1, 1943 and he preceded her in death on December 10, 1991. Elizabeth enjoyed playing piano, cards and loved flowers. Betty was a seamstress for many years for Becker’s Bridal in Fowler and one of her major accomplishments was sewing Altar Coverings for the Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Dianne (Harry) Goerge; two sons, Leon (Diane) Kramer and Ken (Yen) Kramer, all of St. Johns; grandchildren, Lori, Linda, Mike, Tina, Brian, Dawn, Kelly, Jenny, Joe, Jim, Bill and James; 23 great grandchildren; four brothers, Mike (Irene) Schafer of Portland, Edward Schafer, John Schafer, both of Fowler, and Jerome (Connie) Schafer of DeWitt; three sisters, Martha Fedewa of Fowler, Agnes Schafer and Theresa (Leon) Stump, both of Pewamo. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; a son, Clare Kramer; a granddaughter, Rebecca Kramer; sister, Rita Walker and brother, Joseph Schafer.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Timothy E. MacDonald officiating. Interment will follow in Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Sunday and Monday 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, 11112 W. Ionia, Fowler with rosaries prayed 7:00 P.M. Sunday and 3:00 P.M. Monday. The Vigil Service will be 7:00 P.M. Monday. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church.  

Carl Ellis Holton

Carl Ellis Holton age 85 of Owosso, Michigan died Thursday, June 1, 2006 at Sparrow Health Systems Sparrow Campus Lansing, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on June 5, 2006 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Edwin Snook will officiate with burial at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Owosso, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2006 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.

Carl was born in Gratiot County, Michigan on April 14, 1921 the son of Delbert A. and Nellie ( Wierman ) Holton. He resided most of his life in Rush Township, Michigan. Carl married Ruth A. Doederlein on August 11, 1944. She passed away on December 1, 1986. He then married Mary Dick on November 12, 1988. She passed away on December 11, 2005. He was a retired farmer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. Carl was a member of the American Angus Association, and the Farm Bureau.

He is survived by daughter Nancy Berger of Owosso, MI, 2 grandsons; Aaron Berger of Owosso, MI, David Berger of Owosso, MI, 1 great grandson Jacob Berger, 2 sisters: Bernice Coleman of Elsie, MI, Doris and John Green of Elsie, MI, 2 brothers; Ward and Iva Holton of Ovid, MI, Millard and Phyllis Holton of Ovid, MI, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, 5 sisters, and 2 brothers.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
