Brianna Nicole Heeney

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril's Catholic Church Bannister, MI on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at 11:00 AM. Rev. Fr. Wolfgang Streichardt will officiate with burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery St. Johns, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2006 from 6-8 P.M. and Friday, July 28, 2006 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.

Brianna was born in Lansing, Michigan on March 11, 1991 the daughter of Scott Lee and Alicia Ann ( McCoy ) Heeney. She resided most of her life in the Elsie area and attended Ovid-Elsie High School. Brianna was a student who was on the honor roll and a member of the County Reniassance Club. She was a J.V. Cheerleader both as sideline and competative, a dancer at the Bohaty School of Dance in St. Johns, and a Grade 1 Cecchetti Point Dancer. Brianna did several talent shows and she was the Opening Amateur act for the Chesaning Showboat. She was awarded the Principal Award and the Peace Maker Award in elementary school and she was a Altar Server at St. Cyril's Catholic Church.

She is survived by mother Alicia Heeney of Elsie, 2 brothers Ryan and Dylan Heeney of Elsie,sister Shaila Heeney of Elsie, grandparents: Linda McCoy of St. Johns, Paul and Barb Heeney of St. Johns, aunt Michelle McCoy, uncle Jeff McCoy, uncle Paul Heeney, uncle Jeff Heeney, 5 cousins Jeffery and Justin Heeney, Alyssa and Mitchal and Savanna McCoy, as well as a large extended family. She is predeceased by her father Scott, grandfather Roger McCoy and great grandparents.

Memorials may be made to to the family. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Anna was born in Chicago Heights, Illinois on November 23, 1919 the daughter of Paul and Anna ( Tatka ) Pontack. She resided most of her life in the Elsie area. Anna married John Kristin on May 21, 1938 at St. Cyril's Catholic Church Bannister, MI. He died on October 19, 1977. She retired from Universal Electric in Owosso. She attended a Lunch Club, on a monthly basis, with ladies who worked for Universal Electric. Anna was a member of St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Bannister, MI, the VFW Auxillary, and the Altar Society of St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Bannister, MI.

She is survived by her daughter Diane and Joseph Courter of Elsie, MI, son Dennis and Janice Kristin of St. Johns, MI, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, twin sister Pauline Hanus of Ashley, MI, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, 1 son Kevin James, 5 sisters, and 4 brothers.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie, Michigan.

Julia M. Krcmarik

krcmarik.jpg (5088 bytes)Julia M. Krcmarik Okemos, MI Age 83, died July 23, 2006; born May 22, 1923 in Ovid, Michigan. Mrs. Krcmarik was preceded in death by her parents, Frank T. and Anna Mary (Kroupy) Tomasek; 7 brothers, Frank, James, August, John, Joseph, Steven and Edward Tomasek; 3 sisters, Anna Kral, Mary Remondini and Caroline Carter.

Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Stephen, who she married on September 1, 1945; daughter, Karen (Dr. Gary) Hubbard of Okemos; 2 grandsons, John and Matthew Hubbard; sister, Mildred Bradac of Owosso.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 27, 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 955 Alton Road, East Lansing with the Rev. Steven Mattson, officiating. The Rite of Committal will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Owosso. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Avenue, East Lansing Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with the Rosary Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to St. Thomas Aquinas School or KFC Council # 7816, 955 Alton Road, East Lansing, MI 48823 or Sparrow Hospice of Mid-Michigan, P. O. Box 30480, Lansing, MI 48909 in memory of Mrs. Krcmarik.

John Winston Merriott

John Winston Merriott, Ph.D. DeWitt, MI died July 22, 2006 at the age of 82. He was born in Kansas City, MO on November 17, 1923, the son of Daniel and Edith (McKimens) Merriott. He married Marjorie Denton on February 6, 1947 and she survives him. He received his doctorate from the University of Kansas in Lawrence in 1965. He retired from the State of Michigan Department of Public Health as the Chief of Virology. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, hunting, fishing and gardening, and also the company of his black Pug, Chandler.

In addition to his loving wife he is survived by his two daughters, Gayle (Robert) Durbin of Olathe, KS, and Jan (Michael) Williams of Grand Rapids, MI; his grandchildren, Neil (Kari), Brian, Christin, and Cory Faccio, John, Jared, and Jordan Wight, and Adam Bagwell; his great-grandchild, Brett Daniel Faccio; his brother, Daniel Elmer Merriott of Prairie Village, KS; his special niece, Denise Hurst and several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Marilyn Marie Faccio; his son, Daniel Chandler Merriott; and his sisters, Helen Varner and Lucie Scheufler.

A private memorial service and committal will be held. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements by the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns.

Geraldine T. Nurenberg

nurenberg_geraldine.jpg (5756 bytes)Geraldine T. Nurenberg Westphalia, MI Age 69, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away on July 23, 2006. She was born in Portland on October 10, 1936 the daughter of John and Leona (Platte) Theis. Geraldine was a member of St. Mary's Church in Westphalia and the Christian Mothers. She was retired from Pewamo-Westphalia Schools and enjoyed traveling with family and friends. Geraldine also enjoyed the farm and spending time at the family pond especially with the grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Denis whom she married on May 3, 1958 at St. Mary's in Westphalia and her parents.

She is survived by her children, Ellen (special friend, Richard Ryals) of Lansing, David Nurenberg, Daniel Nurenberg, Dale (Brenda) Nurenberg, John "Jack" (Andrea) Nurenberg, and William (Mary) Nurenberg all of Westphalia; grandchildren, Collin, Olivia, Emily, Matthew Nurenberg, Alyssa, Brennen and Glen Nurenberg and Adam Nurenberg; sisters, Marie Cook (late Bill) of Portland, and Germaine Miller (late Gerald) of Westphalia; brothers, Donald Theis and Leon (Mary) Theis of both of Westphalia; and many nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Cecilio Reyna at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., both Monday and Tuesday at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St.. The Rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m., Monday and 3 p.m. on Tuesday. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m., Tuesday. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary Catholic School in memory of Mrs. Nurenberg. Arrangements are being handled by Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.

William E. Fedewa

William E. Fedewa,  53, of Lincoln, Ark., Air Force veteran, mechanic, died July 10. Memorial services 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Cemetery, Westphalia. Arrangements by Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns.

Jeffrey L. Baumann

baumann_jeff.jpg (4391 bytes)Jeffrey L. Baumann, 53, died unexpectedly Friday, July 21, 2006. He was born October 6, 1952 in Summit, New Jersey the son of Alfred and Marion Bartholomew Baumann. Jeff graduated from Seaholm High School in Birmingham, MI, attended Concordia Lutheran College and received his Bachelors Degree in Political Science from Eastern Michigan University. He then received his law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1988. On April 27, 1974 he married Barbara Nixdorf in Ypsilanti, MI. Jeff was a veteran of the U. S. Army. Jeff’s career started as a Police officer for Dowagiac Police Dept, then was Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Cass County. In 1997, he was named the Administrator in charge of the Office of Audit, Internal Affairs and Litigation for the State of Michigan Department of Corrections.
He was a member of Martin Luther Chapel in East Lansing, was a DeWitt Township Trustee, member of Clinton County Republican Party, and participated in the Harley Owners Group (HOG), Lansing.

He is survived by his wife Barb; a son, Joe of DeWitt, and daughter, Jen of Lansing; brothers Greg Baumann of Jackson, MI and Al and Cherry Baumann of Petaluma, CA; his mother, Marian Martens of Troy, MI.

Funeral services will be held at Martin Luther Chapel, 444 Abbott Rd. East Lansing on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Randy Schlak officiating. Burial will follow at DeWitt Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, 1500 Waterford

.Helen F. Young

She was born August 29, 1907 in Olive Township, Clinton County Michigan the daughter of Charlie and Ruth (Upton) Flynn. She was a graduate of Central Michigan University and Michigan State University earning a degree in education. Helen was a school teacher and taught at several schools in Mid-Michigan. She attended Redeemer United Methodist Church in DeWitt, when she lived in Michigan, and was a member of the MEA, and Retired Teachers Association. She has resided in Louisiana since 1990.

Surviving is a daughter, Nancy (Oliver) Smith of Junction City, AR; one son, Randall (Edith) Young of Laingsburg, MI; seven grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren and special friend and caregiver for the past few years, Jeanette Farrar. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dow; a daughter-in-law, Maureen Young; two grandchildren, Diane and Barry Smith; a brother, Burton Flynn; and a sister, Arlene Mohr.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Monday, July 24, 2006 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Rodney Kalajainen officiating. Interment will follow at Wilsey Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Saturday and 2-4 and 6-8 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Redeemer United Methodist Church 13980 Schavey Rd. DeWitt, MI 48820.

Betty I. Sadler

Betty I. Sadler age 82 of Ashley, Michigan died Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at Ashley Care Center Ashley, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel Ithaca, MI on July 22, 2006 at 11:00 AM. Pastor John Pohl will officiate with burial at North Star Cemetery North Star, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2006 from 6-8 P.M. and Friday, July 21, 2006 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.

Betty was born in Gratiot County, Michigan on October 2, 1923 the daughter of Henry and Carrie ( Shaub ) Ackels. She resided most of her life in the Ashley area and attended Kennett and Ashley Schools. Betty married William Sadler on August 2, 1942. He died in February 1982. She was a homemaker, and she also worked as a nurses aide at Maple Valley Nursing Home, as well as at the Saginaw Street Meijers and the Pennsylvania Street Meijers in Lansing, MI. She loved to fish, and play bingo. Betty was a great cook who also made wedding cakes. Betty attended Ashley United Methodist Church as well as a member of Rebekah’s Lodge.

She is survived by 5 children; Carol and Clifford Vincent of Owosso, MI, Ruth and Jim Fabus of Ashley, MI, Mary Lou and Ray McPherson of Ashley, MI, Paul and Linda Sadler of Olivet, MI, Dale and Peggy Sadler of Lake Odessa, MI, 11 grandchildren Curt and Sharon Vincent of Owosso, MI, Craig Vincent of Midland, MI, David Oberlitner of Alma, MI, Amie Oberlitner of Okemos, MI, Greg and Sandy McPherson of St. Johns, MI, Eric and Stephanie McPherson of Wakefield, RI, Chad McPherson of Columbus, OH, Paula Sadler of Charlotte, MI, Scott and Sarah Sadler of Grand Rapids, MI, Jody and Trevor Cupples of Sanford, FL, Amanda Sadler of Lansing, MI, 8 great grandchildren, 2 sisters; Katherine Powelson of Elsie, MI, Marjorie and Carl Robbennolt of Ashley, MI, brother Harold and Rhoda Ackels of Howell, MI, brother-in-law Warren Sadler of Ithaca, MI, sister-in-law Benita Sadler of Alma, MI, sister-in-law Andrea Ackels of Ashley, MI, and sister-in-law Carol Ackels of Ithaca, MI.
