Dortha M. (Beagle) Homer Dortha M. Homer, aged 89, a resident of Clark Retirement Community, Grand Rapids, passed away Monday, August 14, 2006. Surviving are her son and daughter, Cayle H. (Barbara) Beagle, and Kathleen M. Beagle all of St. Johns; step-children, June (Steve) Parks, Joanne (Thomas) Hansen, Jean Bowen; step-sonin-law, Albert Tew; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry S. and Mabel G. (Ward) Bedaine; by her first husband, Eugene Beagle; by her second husband, Rev. Harold Homer and by her step-daughter, Barbara Tew. Mrs. Homer was an elementary school teacher for 30 years in the Portland and St. Johns school system. She was a life long member of the United Methodist Church and was very active in her volunteer work for the church and for Clark Retirement Community. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Clark Retirement Community where friends may meet the family for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Wacousta Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Clark Retirement Community Foundation, 1551 Franklin SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49502, Faith Hospice or West Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church. Livingston, age 95, died in her home of 72 years on Monday, August 14, 2006, with family
members present. She was born March 29, 1911, the daughter of Reuben Frank and Mable
(Wright) Payne near Frankfort, Clinton County, Indiana, and later lived near Kempton,
Indiana. Her family moved to the farm on US-27 north of St. Johns, Michigan in March 1923,
where she finished her grade school at the Greenwood School. She graduated from Rodney B.
Wilson High School in 1929, graduated from Clinton County Normal in 1930 and taught at the
Lowe School in 1930-31. Robert J. Hefty Lansing, MI Age 76, went to be with The Lord, Sunday, August 13, 2006. Robert was born March 23, 1930, in St. Johns, MI, the son of Harry and Inez Hefty. Mr. Hefty was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Capital City Chordsmen and American Legion. He retired from Motor Wheel in 1985 after 35 years of employment. Bob especially enjoyed being a joint owner in the family Subway business. Robert had a wonderful sense of humor although not everyone understood it. A loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, cousin and friend will be dearly missed by all. Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Ging and step mother, Ceola Hefty. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Theresa; 5 children, Rebecca (Garret) Fedewa, Marsha (Bruce) Mohnsen, James Hefty, Stephen (Sheri) Hefty and Thomas (Lisa) Hefty; 2 sisters, Mary (Ron) Blood and Beverly Barnum; 15 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and one special cousin, Bill Hefty. Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be Friday, August 18, 2006, 11:00 am At Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. John Byers as celebrant. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Craig, Sr., 75, of Nokomis, Fla., formerly of Ovid, retired Oldsmobile (Lansing) employee, died Sunday August 13, 2006. Luncheon 2 p.m. Sept. 24 at United Church of Ovid, Fellowship Hall. Jacob "Jake" "Ralph" Martin, age 87, passed on to be with his Lord on Wednesday, August 9, 2006. Jacob was born November 18, 1918 in St. Johns, MI, the son of Floyd J. and Ada M. (Benham) Martin. He was a veteran of WWII, having service assignments in Arkansas, England and Germany. Jacob was a lifetime member of Teamsters Local Union 580 as a semi-truck/trailer driver until he became semi-retired from Associated Groceries of Holt. He was a founding member of the Mason-West Columbia Church of the Nazarene. Jacob met his wife of 56 years at Dart and Cady Plumbing and Heating of Mason. Surviving are his wife, Vera (Jennings); six children, Michael (Joyce) of Mason, Susan of Lansing, Dennis (Jackie) of Junction City, KS, Gary (Pam)of Dimondale, Bryan (Karen) of Mason, Terry (Lisa) of Lansing; sister, Jean Neuchterlein of Denver, CO; and sister-in-law, Fern Martin of Alpena. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Jacob was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Gerald (Geraldine), and Basil (Gertrude); baby sister, Reva Martin; son-in-law, Chuck Chapman; and brother-in-law, Richard Neuchterlein. Since 1995 Jacob has suffered with cancer related illnesses until he was finally called Home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 14, 2006 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids with Pastor Mike Prince officiating. Interment will follow at North Aurelius Cemetery with casket bearers Michael Martin, Dennis Martin, Gary Martin, Bryan Martin, Terry Martin, Kirk Chapman and Stacy Chapman. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
