Josephine Smith Josephine Smith, age 88, much beloved
mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother, went to be with her Lord on January 23,
2007 surrounded by her family. She was born Josephine M. Roberts, on December 9, 1918, the
daughter of Maurice and Agnes (Eiseler) Roberts. She graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High
School, class of 1936 and then went to the school of cosmetology. During her lifetime she
also worked at Lear Corporation and the Clinton County Council on Aging before her
retirement. Her greatest love was her family.
She was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in
Ovid. She and Roger R. Smith were married on December 16, 1940 in Eaton Rapids, MI. She is
survived by six children, Sandra (Michael) Libbey of Corunna, Jeanne (Donald) Sudua of
Kalkaska, Maureen Roberts, Janet (Rodney) Tew, Richard (Karen) Smith, all of Ovid and
Patricia (Edward) Hagan of Corunna. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, fourteen
great grandchildren and one sister, Geraldine Salter of St. Johns. She was preceded in
death by her parents, husband and one granddaughter, Janean Segur.
At her request there will be no visitation. Flowers may be
sent to the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 E. Oak St., Ovid. Friends are welcome
to attend services held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 26, 2007 at the Holy Family Catholic
Church, Ovid. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the
American Diabetes Association or Holy Family Catholic Church.
Edwin C. Nobis

Nobis died Janaury 23, 2007, at the age of 99. Born in Arenzville, IL on May 15, 1907 the
son of Carl and Augusta (Lovecamp) Nobis. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran
Church and retired from the Clinton County Road Commission. Edwin married Irene Zell
November 28, 1935 and she preceded him in death on January 27, 2002. He was a talented
handyman who enjoyed listening to music and singing.
Surviving are two daughters, Carlene Kundrock of Holt and Barbara (Kenneth) Heibeck, Jr,
of St. Johns, five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, a sister, Eleanor Dunham of
Decatur, Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Edwin was
preceded in death by three sisters, Emily Haak, Lydia Ommen and Selma Roegge, three
brothers, Arnold, Ernest, and Otto Nobis and his son-in-law, Robert Kundrock.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 29, 2007 at St. Johns Lutheran
Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Pastors George Brinley and Paul Clark
officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Sunday at the Osgood Funeral
Home, St. Johns. Sympathies may be expressed in the form of contributions to
St. Johns Lutheran Church.
Billie Y. Pierson
Billie Y.
Pierson, age 76, died January 22, 2007. Born April 15, 1930 the daughter of William I. and
Laura (Smith) McCurry and lived most of her life in St. Johns. She was a member of the
First United Methodist Church, a former member of Mint City Garden Club, volunteer for
Meals on Wheels and Clinton Memorial Hospital. Billie married George E. Pierson in Texas
March 8, 1947 and he preceded her in death on May 18, 2005.
Surviving are three sons, James (Candice) Pierson of St. Johns, David (Rosemary) Pierson
of Kalkaska, and Jonathan (Karen) Pierson of Tennessee, five grandchildren, Dwight (Anne)
Pierson, Chad (Nichole) Pierson, Laura (Matthew) Berry, Kristin Pierson, and Kayla
Pierson, five great grandchildren, and one sister, Judy (Newton) England of Texas. In
addition to her husband, Billie was preceded in death by one sister, and two brothers.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 25, 2007 at the First United
Methodist Church, 200 E. State St., St. Johns, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with the
Reverend Margery Schleicher officiating. The family will receive friends 7-9 P.M. Tuesday
and 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at the Osgood Funeral Home. Sympathy may be

Galecka, 70 of Elsie, Michigan passed away Sunday, January 21, 2007 at Sparrow Health
Systems, Lansing, MI, following a short illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril's Catholic Church Bannister, MI on
Thursday, January 25, 2007 at 10:00 AM. Rev. Fr. Wolfgang Streichardt will officiate with
burial at Ford Cemetery Gratiot County, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Tuesday,
January 23, 2007 from 6-8 P.M. and Wednesday, January 24, 2007 from 2-8 P.M. with family
present 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Rosary will be
prayed on Wednesday evening at 6:00 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
Joseph was born in Bannister, Michigan on February 26, 1936 the son of Martin and Anna
Mary ( Yanci ) Galecka Sr. He resided in Bannister and Elsie throughout his life. Joseph
married Marilyn Kral on December 27, 1969. He was the first apprentice for Ford Motor
Company in Owosso before they sold to Johnson Contol in Owosso where he worked as a
machine repairman for 39 years. He also farmed his entire life, tending to his wheat,
soybean, and corn crops, apple orchard and other fruit trees. He was very proud of his
three sons, his Czech heritage and service in the U.S. Army. When he wasn't working,
taking care of the farm or tinkering in the barn, he enjoyed boat rides, fishing, playing
cards, and searching for garage sale bargains at his family's cabin on Higgins Lake.
Joseph was a member of St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Bannister, MI, where he served as a
Eucharistic minister, usher, and member of the Parish Council, and Men's Club. He was also
a member of the First Catholic Slovak Union and an honorary lifetime member of the Knights
of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn Galecka of Elsie, MI, sons; Craig and Heather Galecka
of Williamston, MI, Matt Galecka of Potterville, MI, Mark Galecka of Novi, MI, grandson
Mitchell Galecka, and 3 siblings; Martin and Agnes Galecka Jr. of Ovid, MI, C. Carl and
Janet Galecka of Owosso, MI, Mary and Ray Dilley of Fenton, MI. He is predeceased by his
parents, Martin and Anna Galecka Sr. and his daughter-in-law Michelle Galecka.

Chapko age 93 of Elsie, Michigan died on Saturday, January 20, 2007. Mass of Christian
Burial will be at St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Bannister, Michigan on Wednesday, January
24, 2007 at 10 A.M. Rev. Fr. Wolfgang Streichardt will officiate and burial will take
place at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be on Monday 6-8 P.M and
Tuesday 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie
Chapel.
Katherine was born in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan on December
13, 1913 the daughter of Frank and Katherine ( Vida ) Benadick and she resided most of her
life in the Elsie area. On August 22, 1936 she married William Chapko at St. Cyril's
Catholic Church, Bannister, Michigan, William died December 10, 1984. She was a homemaker
and worked on the family farm with her husband, she was a member of St. Cyril's Catholic
Church, and the Altar Society, and she enjoyed playing golf.
Survivors include her son, William and Janice Chapko of
Elsie, Michigan, 3 grandchildren, Bill Chapko of Elsie, Michigan, Dan and Vicky Chapko of
Elsie, Michigan, Julie Chapko of Lennon, Michigan, 5 great- grandchildren, D.J., Phillip,
Haley, Curtis, Vanessa, 1 sister, Mildred Benadick of Ashley, Michigan. She was
predeceased by her parents, husband, 1 sister, Anna Chapko, 2 brothers Frank and Peter
Benadick.

Janet Zeigler
Janet K. Zeigler died January
21, 2007, at the age of 67. She was born in Ovid Township on April 4, 1939, the daughter
of Kenneth and Beulah (Miller) Young. Janet married Neil Zeigler in Ovid Township on June
18, 1955 and he survives her.
Also surviving are her sons, Rusty (Marcia) Zeigler, Rod (Pam) Zeigler, Robert (Loni)
Zeigler, Randy (Bonnie) Zeigler, and Ronnie (Stacey) Zeigler, 11 grandchildren, Kenneth,
Kendra (Josh), Angie (Bob), Tyffany, Nathan, Kellie, Max, Lacie, Brandon, Bobbie, and
Donny (Lauren), two great grandchildren, Hezakigha and Stephanie, and one sister, Sandra
(Richard) Rewerts. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 25, 2007 at the Houghton Chapel of
the Osgood

Everett Myles Thelen
Everett Myles Thelen, infant son of Andy and Veronica
(Zawacki) Thelen, went to be with God's angels on January 20, 2007. He was born on January
12, 2007 with Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome in Ann Arbor.
In addition to his parents, Everett is survived by his
grandparents, Clare and Janet Thelen of Fowler, and Ray and Pat Zawacki of Rose City, his
great grandmother, Florence Halfmann of Westphalia, uncles and aunts, Chad and Chelley
Thelen, Chris and Becky Thelen, David Zawacki, cousin Caterina Thelen and baby Thelen
soon-to-be-born.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30a.m., Tuesday,
January 23, 2007 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler, burial immediately
following at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Timothy MacDonald officiating. The
family will receive relatives and friends on Monday evening 6:00-9:00p.m., with a prayer
service at 8:00p.m., at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes,
Fowler.

Josepha C. Goerge, 97, died on January 18, 2007.
Josepha was born on December 1, 1909, the daughter of Peter and Emma (Thelen) Droste of
Pewamo. She was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers.
Josepha married Roy E. Goerge on October 20, 1936 in Pewamo and he preceded her in death
on July 23, 1987.
She is survived by six sons LeRoy (Grace) Goerge, Curtis (Mary) Goerge, Brendon (Sandy)
Goerge, George (Beverly) Goerge, all of Fowler, Harry (Dianne) Goerge of St. Johns and
Ralph (Carol) Goerge of Beaverton, four daughters Judy Koenigsknecht of Fowler, Agnes
(John) Lewis of Charlotte, Eva Gross of Fowler, formerly of Portland, and Rose Mary
(Roger) Nobach of St. Johns, 40 grandchildren, and 66 great grandchildren. In addition to
her husband, Josepha was preceded in death by two sons, Bernard and Joseph Goerge,
sons-in-law Carl Koenigsknecht and Ed Gross, her granddaughter Shelly Goerge, and her
great grandson Lee Platte.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Monday, January 22, 2007 at Most Holy Trinity
Catholic Church, Fowler, MI, burial at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Timothy E.
MacDonald officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday and Sunday 2:00
4:00P.M. and 6:00 8:00 P.M. at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes,
Fowler. Rosaries will be prayed at 3:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. Saturday and 3:00 P.M. Sunday.

Carole M. Robinson, age 66, of St. Johns, Michigan died
Monday, January 15, 2007 at her home.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at the American Legion Hall St. Johns, MI on Saturday,
January 20, 2007 at 1:00 PM.
Carole was born in Bannister, Michigan on May 12, 1940 the daughter of Stanley and Doris (
Kiter ) Paprstein. She resided most of her life in the Bannister and St. Johns areas.
Carole worked as a Home Health Care Provider. She enjoyed reading her Bible.
She is survived by 3 daughters; Jaylenne and Art Berkompas of Rudyard, MI, Duffy Kay and
Roger Short of Bremerton, WA, Deanna and Les Pease of Groton, CT, a son Alan and Audrey
Robinson of St. Johns, MI, 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 2 brothers; Teddy
Paprstein of Indiana, Stan Paprstein Jr. of Indiana. She is predeceased by her parents, 1
grandson Carey Cleland, and a brother, Charles.
