Lloyd Love

love_lloyd.jpg (3924 bytes)Lloyd C. Love died February 6, 2007, at the age of 82. He was born in St. Johns on February 14, 1924, the son of Howard and Celia Belle (Harper) Love. He was a farmer, drove truck in winters for Cutler Oil and was a member of Pilgrim United Methodist Church. Lloyd married Donna Clark in St. Johns on March 16, 1946 and she survives him.

Also surviving are four sons, Kenneth (Marti) Love of Howell, Norman (Lila) Love of Jackson, Keith (Becky) Love of Ovid and John (Kathy) Love of St. Johns, nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, two sisters, Beth (Wendell) Brewbaker of Williamston and Margaret (Malcolm) Williams of Minden City, MI. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Melissa Love.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. Friday, February 9, 2007 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Ken Bremer officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to Pilgrim United Methodist Church or Ovid Healthcare Center.

Ruth A. Roof

roof_ruth.jpg (4356 bytes)Ruth A. Roof died February 6, 2007, at the age of 85. She was born in St. Johns on March 22, 1921, the daughter of James and Emma (Stead) Pratt. She was a homemaker and a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Ruth married Paul Roof in Rochester Colony on November 16, 1940 and he survives her.

Also surviving are her daughters, Sharon (Bill) Irrer, Paula Reynolds, Pam (Don) Boak and Judy (Gary) Moon, all of St. Johns, son-in-law, Paul Ritz of Houghton Lake, 16 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, sister, Dorothy Salter of Six Lakes, brother-in-law, R.V. (Coralee) Roof of Houghton Lake and sister-in-law, Mildred Roof of St. Johns. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Katherine Ritz, grandson, Duane Ritz and brothers, Robert, Donald, Earl and Kenneth Pratt.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, February 8, 2007 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Eureka Cemetery with David Hudgens officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to V.F.W. Post #4113, Paine-Gillam-Scott Museum or Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor.

George Henry Myers

George Henry Myers age 82 of Ovid, Michigan died on Tuesday, February 06, 2007 at Ovid Healthcare Center, Ovid, Michigan. Funeral services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie chapel on Friday, February 9, 2007 at 11:00 A.M.

Pastor Scott Seelhoff will officiate and burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Ovid, Michigan. Visitation will be on Wednesday fro 6-8 P.M. and Thursday 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.

George was born in Ovid, Michigan on May 31, 1924 the son of Delos M. and Edna ( Hudson ) Myers on the family farm that has been in his family for more than 100 years. He attended Ovid High School, and resided all of his life in the Ovid area. On April 2, 1943 he married Grace E. Hughson at the pastor’s home in Rochester Colony, Duplain Township, Michigan.

George was a retired truck driver and a farmer, who enjoyed trucking and farming very much, he also enjoyed doing mechanic work and feeding his horses and his dogs.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Myers of Ovid, Michigan, 3 daughters, Delores and W.G. Wilson of Hillsdale, Michigan, Ann E. and Ed Hegler of New York, Sandra K. Myers, 2 sons, John and Pat Myers of Middleton, Michigan, James and Nadine Myers of Ovid, Michigan, 5 grandchildren, 1 sister, Mary H. Myers of Hillsdale, Michigan. He was predeceased by his parents and 1 brother, John M. Myers.  Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice in his memory.

Alice P. Williams

williams_patricia.jpg (4281 bytes)Alice P. Williams, age 81 of Elsie a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend died Monday, February 5, 2006 at her home. Funeral services will be at Elsie United Methodist Church, on Thursday, February 8, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 7, 2007 from 2-8 p.m. with family present 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Pastor Ed Snook will officiate and burial will at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, Michigan.

Alice was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 22, 1925, the daughter of William Paul and Neva Estelle (Tedlock) Downing. She graduated from Fordson High School in Dearborn, Michigan with the class of 1943 and moved to Elsie in 1957. On February 28, 1958 she married Lowell Williams in Ohio. Lowell predeceased her on February 26, 2001. She was the former co-owner, with her husband of Williams Hardware in Elsie, retiring in 1993, she enjoyed fishing, cooking and reading, she was also a member of the Elsie United Methodist Church, and the Elsie United Methodist Women.

Survivors include her 6 children, Linda and Robert Vollwerth of Houghton, Michigan, Margaret Heiser of  Holt, Michigan, Donald and Debbi Wilson of Bancroft, Michigan, Jennifer Williams and Santiago Peregrino of Bay City, Michigan, Lana Huntoon of Corunna, Michigan, Brian and Karen Williams of Milford, Michigan, 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, 1 sister, Betty Sweeney of Richmond, VA, she was predeceased by her parents and husband Lowell.

Memorial may be made to the Elsie United Methodist Women. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Dale Frances Calder

calder_dale.jpg (3700 bytes)Dale Frances Calder age 69 of St. Johns, Michigan died Friday, February 2, 2007 at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan Lansing, Michigan.

A Requiem Mass will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel St. Johns, MI on Friday, February 9, 2007 at 11:00 AM. Rev. Fr. Bernard Colussy O.F.M. will officiate with burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery St. Johns, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2007 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 and 6-8 P.M., Rosary will be prayed Thursday evening at 7:00 P.M.

Dale was born in St. Johns, Michigan on February 28, 1937 the son of Leo Martin and Lucille Marie ( Brya ) Calder. He resided most of his life in the St. Johns area and graduated from Rodney B. Wilson School with the class of 1956. Dale married Mary Ganiard on September 11, 1971 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church "Irish Hills" Brooklyn, Michigan. He was a College Professor of French and Humanities at St. Mary's College in St. Marys, Kansas, then taught at Donnely College in Kansas, and at Belleplain and Udall Schools in Wichita, Kansas. He then retired in 1993. Dale was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary in Fredonia, Wisconsin. He was active in the Sons of the American Revolution, Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, Clinton County Historical Society, and founder of the Genealogical Committee there in Clinton County.

He is survived by his wife Mary Calder of St. Johns, MI, 2 brothers; Robert L. and Lillian Calder of Holt, MI, Max and Joan Calder of Dewitt Township, MI, 2 sisters-in-law; Diana and Robert Potts of Clark Lake, MI, Julie and William Earle of Clark Lake, MI, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, son Jacques Francois Calder on July 27, 1974 and one brother, William Calder in 1928.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel.

Emma Berkhousen

Emma Berkhousen died February 2, 2007 at the age of 90. She was born April 11, 1916 in St. Johns, Michigan the daughter of Carl and Ethel (Wolf) Siefert. She was a member of the First Church of God and Womens Missionary Society. Emma retired from Clinton Memorial Hospital as a Nurses Aide after 25 years of service. She married Romaine C. "Mike" Berkhousen October 8, 1943 and he preceded her in death June 23, 1990.

Emma is survived by two sons, Clark (Carla) Berkhousen and Jon Berkhousen of St. Johns, one daughter, Linda Berkhousen of Gardnerville, Nevada, six grandchildren, Christine (Tim) Cleaver, Carrie (Jarrod) Workman, Cory (Tristen) Berkhousen, Jamie (Edder) DeLaCruz, Jason (Natalie) Berkhousen and Thad Berkhousen and great grandchildren, Austin and Jamison Cleaver, Logan and Peyton Workman, Elena and Sophia DeLaCruz, and Madison and Michael Berkhousen and one daughter-in-law, Jackie Berkhousen.

Funeral Services will be 10:00am Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at the First Church of God, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Pastor Paul Daniels officiating. The family will receive friends 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm Monday at the Osgood Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First Church of God.
