Emily Presocki

presocki_emily.jpg (4273 bytes)Emily (Millie) Presocki passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at the age of 84. She was born February 23, 1922 in Stevensville, MI the daughter of Walter and Anna (Orzel) Czubak. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, enjoyed collecting recipes, and worked in the cafeteria at St. Johns High School for several years. Millie married John Presocki on September 2, 1950 and he preceded her in death in 2005. She also was preceded in death by one sister, Julia Kowalski and three brothers, Joseph, Edward and Leo.

Surviving are two daughters, Rosalie Mascho and Nancy Presocki; one son, Ronald (Cindy) Presocki all of St. Johns; grandchildren, Stacy Mascho (fiancée Aaron Lightner) and Sarah, Jennifer, Michael and David Presocki; one sister, Mary Stampski of DeWitt and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Saturday, February 17, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 109 Linden St, St. Johns with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy as Celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Friday with a Vigil Service at 7:30 PM at  Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns 989-224-4422. Clement Martin

martin_clem.jpg (4859 bytes)Clement “Clem” Martin died February 13, 2007, at the age of 90. He was born in Fowler on May 4, 1916, the son of Louis and Louise (Pung) Martin. He lived in Fowler all his life and also lived on the family farm. He delivered milk by a horse drawn carriage and bottled milk for many years. He loved to bowl, play cards and square dance with the Maple Twirlers. He has enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler, he was a 4th degree life member Knights of Columbus Council #1509 and past Grand Knight of Msgr. Esper Council #3027. Clem married Regina Weber in Fowler on October 8, 1941.

Surviving is his wife of 65 years, son, Donald (Anne) Martin of Fowler, 5 grandchildren, Bob Martin, Ed Martin, both of Fowler, Barb Martin of Haslett, Cathy (Allen) Orban of Lyons and Lisa (Mike) Magda of Whitmore Lake, 11 great-grandchildren, sisters, Sister Geraldine and Sister Rita of Wisconsin, sister-in-law, Pauline Martin of Lansing and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Greg Martin and Sylvester Martin, and sister-in-law, Julia Martin.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 17, 2007 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, burial at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Leon Martin and Rev. Fr. Timothy E. MacDonald con-celebrating. The family will receive friends 7-9 P.M. Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Friday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes with a rosary and KofC Chalice presentation 8 P.M. Thursday, rosary 3 P.M. Friday and vigil service 8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

Patrick John Fox

fox_patrick.jpg (4588 bytes)Patrick John Fox died February 11, 2007 at the age of 52. He was born in Lansing on February 5, 1955, the son of John and Shirley (Davarn) Fox. Pat married Mary Bommarito in East Lansing on March 24, 1979 and she survives him.

Also surviving is his daughter, Christen Fox (fiancé Kalin Mellars), step son, Kenneth “Opie” (Anne Marie) Root, grandson, Christopher Root, parents, brothers, Thomas (Donna) Fox and James Fox, sister, Jane (David) Motz, brother-in-law, Jerry (Victoria) Bommarito, sisters-in-law, Barbara (Brian) Bird, Annette (Peter) Zegarac and Frances (Peter) Bakatselos, father-in-law, Peter Bommarito, nieces and nephews, Sarah, Dan, Megan, Kyle, Bobby, Madeline, Ben, Cayla and Sophia, and his best friend, Buddy.

Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Friday, February 16, 2007 at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends 7-9 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home with a vigil service at 8 P.M.

Esther E. Theis

Theis left this world to spend eternity in God’s paradise and to be reunited with her beloved husband Henry, who passed from this earth on August 28, 2006. Esther was born September 18, 1924 and lived all her life in the Fowler area. Before a tragic medical incident stole her vitality, Esther enjoyed traveling, bowling, and dancing with her one true love, Henry. She was a wonderful, warm, and nurturing wife, mother and grandmother with a sweet disposition that was never forgotten by those who love her, despite the challenge and length of her condition. Although we mourn the great loss of both our parents, we are greatly comforted with the knowledge that Mom and Dad are reunited, restored and together as they haven’t been for over 15 years.

Preceding Esther in death are her parents, Edward and Anna (Schmitz) Schomisch, two brothers, Lester and Leonard, and two brothers-in-law, Veer Stevens and Leonard Thelen. Surviving are Henry and Esther’s children, Marie of Fowler, Theresa (Robert) Hodge of Ionia, Janet of Lansing, Joseph (Jane) of Fowler and four grandchildren, Brittany, Terry and Tyler Theis of Fowler and Nicole Hodge of Ionia. Also surviving are one brother, Edwin (Agnes) Schomisch of Fowler, two sisters, Rose Thelen of Fowler and Marie Stevens of Lansing, two sisters-in-law, Rosie Schomisch of St. Johns and Marie Schomisch of Fowler, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Thursday, February 15, 2007 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, burial at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Timothy E. MacDonald officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Fowler with a rosary prayed 3 and 8 P.M. Tuesday, 3 P.M. Wednesday and a vigil 8 P.M. Wednesday.

Norman Thelen

thelen_norman.jpg (3765 bytes)Norman M. Thelen, 93 of Westphalia, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2007. He was born on September 3, 1913 to John and Theresa (Rademacher) Thelen in Westphalia, Michigan. Norman was happily married to Catherine (Smith) for 62 years before her passing in 1999. He was also preceded in death by his son Joseph, granddaughter Jackie, great-granddaughter Heather, and his brother and sister.

He is survived by his children Jeanette (Francis) Thelen, Geri (Tom) Simon, Bernice (Jerry) Davis, Walter (Bernadette) Thelen, Mark (Dawn) Thelen , Evelyn (Lee) pohl, Rose (Russ) Snitgen, and Ray (Ann) Thelen, 23 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the St. Joseph Society. Norman was a lifetime member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Fr. Godez Assembly where service was a big part of his life. He served two terms as Grand Knight for the K of C and was activities chairman of the Knights for the Lansing Diocese. Father Al Miller appointed him chairman of the fund drive for the new St. Mary's Elementary School. He served on the Clinton County Intermediate School Board, Tri-County Planning Commission, and Riley Twp. Supervisor. Norman loved making music with his violin, playing cards, watching and playing baseball, and growing beautiful roses. Most of all he loved his wife and often sang, "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" to her. Along with his wife he loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His Catholicism was part and parcel of his being, and will carry him home to the Lord.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Cecilio Reyna at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Monday, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Westphalia Funeral Chapel Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 Westphalia St. The rosary will be prayed at 8:00 p.m. on Monday and 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a Scriptural Wake Service at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Jack R. Rogers

rogers_jack.jpg (4233 bytes)Jack R. Rogers age 72 of Morrice, Michigan formerly of Elsie, Michigan died Thursday, February 8, 2007 at Memorial Healthcare Center Owosso, MI.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Randall Johnson will officiate with burial at Riverside Cemetery Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2007 from 2-8 P.M. and Monday, February 12, 2007 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.

Jack was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on October 25, 1934 the son of Asa R. and Beulah M. ( Hafelein ) Rogers. He resided most of his life in Elsie, Chesaning, and Owosso and graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1952. Jack married Claretta Confer in Owosso, Michigan on December 23, 1971. He retired on June 1, 1990 from Johnson Control in Owosso after 35 years. He loved sports, gardening, dogs, and cars. He was an avid reader and enjoyed learning about history, and he loved to tell jokes. When he was growing up, he helped with the family business Rogers Grocery in Elsie. Jack was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Perry, Michigan and the Fand AM in Elsie, MI.

He is survived by wife Claretta Rogers of Morrice, MI, 3 sons; Douglas Rogers of Florida, Dirk Rogers of Greenville, SC, Jason Rogers of Morrice, MI, mother Beulah Chadwick of Higgins Lake, MI, 1 grandson, 1 sister Janet K. Bokros of Washington, MI, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father Asa Rogers, and step-father Harold Chadwick.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Carol Joan Jorae

Carol Joan Jorae, 65, of Traverse City, died on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, while surrounded by her loving family at Munson Hospice House.

Carol was born on Nov. 27, 1941, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Donald A. and Edith (Gay) Parker. She married Stanley "Pat" Jorae on May 5, 1973, in Parchment. She was a medical assistant for Kalamazoo Anesthesiology and various other doctors in both Kalamazoo and Traverse City. Carol was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She loved to grow flowers, especially perennials, and was very talented at playing the piano. Carol enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed writing, and would write long letters to her family and friends.

Carol is survived by her husband of 33 years, Stanley "Pat" Jorae of Traverse City; two daughters, Rebecca (Don) Gouin of Fife Lake and Natalie Jorae of Traverse City; two grandchildren, Daniel and Shannon; one sister, Susan (Dan) AAberg of Battle Creek; one brother, Dennis Parker of Kalamazoo; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at Covell Funeral Home, where a Scripture Service will be held at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at 11 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with the Rev. William Lipscomb serving as celebrant. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be given in Carol's name to the American Lung Association.

Keith T. Lawrence

lawrence.jpg (4841 bytes)Keith T. Lawrence, age 58, of Owosso, passed away Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Nelson-House Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Hessler officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. An Eagles Memorial service will be held 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Keith was born in St. Johns, March 24, 1948, the son of George and Nellie (Fox) Lawrence. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On Dec. 8, 1973, he and Patricia Cummings were married in Ovid. He worked for Tri-Mer Corp. for 22 years as a utility man and final assembly, and he owned and operated Keith's Standard Service in Owosso.

He was a life member of the Owosso Eagles, acting as president, past president, secretary, and trustee. He enjoyed auto racing, racing at the Owosso Speedway, fishing, and loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include: his wife, Patricia; six children, Jane (Fred) Mead, Doug (Nancy) Kirby, Shelly Kirby, Ginger (Jimmy) Absher, Stacy (Todd) Moiles, Keith (Hannah) Lawrence; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers; and two sisters. He was predeceased by one grandson, Greg Mead; parents; and a brother, Ed.
