Rollin J. Dunkel Rollin J. Dunkel, 90 died Monday, April 30, 2007 at
Ashley Care Center. He was born April 12, 1917 in Clinton County the son of Edgar and
Hazel (Taft) Dunkel. Rollin graduated from Ovid High School in 1934 and on March 27, 1937
he married Helen A. Groom in Ovid. Rollin was in the heating and plumbing business with
Dunkel Plumbing and Heating for over 30 years, and retired in April, 1979. He enjoyed
bowling, fishing, boating, winters in Florida and summers at Houghton Lake.
He is survived by his wife Helen; a daughter, Maureen and Al Miller of Ovid; a son,
Eugene and Nancy Dunkel of Florida; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and
brothers, John and Lyola Dunkel of St. Johns. He was preceded in death by 2 Brothers,
Jerry and Woody.
Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, 989-224-4422
on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Steve Weinberger officiating. Burial will
follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ovid.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday 6-8 P.M. and Friday, 2-4
and 6-8 P.M. Memorials may be given to Ashley Care Center or to the donors choice.
Viola A. Pung
Viola A. Pung died April 29, 2007 at the age of 92. She was born in Bengal Township,
Michigan March 15, 1915 the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Halfmann) Bast. She was a
homemaker, worked for St. Johns Public Schools and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic
Church and Ladies Altar Society. On January 4, 1947, Viola married Alvin Dick
Pung and he preceded her in death September 24, 1992.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet Pung of Bloomfield Hills, one son, Thomas Pung of
Taylors, SC, daughter-in-law, Kathy Pung of Novi, two grandchildren, Christopher Pung of
Novi and Melissa (Chad) Wardie of Hazel Park, and great-granddaughter Ashlynn. In addition
to her husband, Viola was preceded in death by a son, Michael Pung, four sisters, Alberta
Bast, Regina Haines, Marie Herrick, and Leona Pearson, and two brothers, Alvin Bast in
WWII and Isadore Bast.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2007 at St. Joseph
Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. The
family will receive friends on Tuesday, 6:00 8:00p.m. and Wednesday, 2:00 -
4:00p.m. and 6:00 8:00p.m. at the Osgood Funeral Home. A vigil service will be held on Wednesday
at 7:00p.m. Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Educational Trust Fund and Clinton
County Meals on Wheels.
Richard P. Johnson
Richard P. Johnson died April 25, 2007, at the age of 51. He was born in Owosso on
February 26, 1956, the son of Aaron and Loreeta (Janes) Johnson. He was a radio engineer
and a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Surviving is his former wife, Bonnie Gall and special friend, Jean Daniels, sons, Rob
(Heather) Johnson and Aaron (Rose Merrit) Johnson, all of Ovid, daughter, Amanda Johnson
of Ovid, grandson, Aaron Johnson, Jr., brother, John (Linda) Johnson, niece, Jamie Johnson
and nephew, John Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sheila
Johnson.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, April 30, 2007 at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral
Homes, Ovid, with Pastor Dave Woodby officiating. The family will receive
friends 11 A.M. 1 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the
form of memorials to the family.
Mary Ann Wood
Mary Ann Wood died April 26, 2007, at the age of 90. Born on the Blessed Virgin
Marys feast day, December 8, 1916, to Ellis and Catherine Cook. Mary Ann was a
lifelong resident of Pewamo and member of St. Josephs Church. She became a teacher
and taught at a one-room schoolhouse where most of the students were her relatives! She
embraced the philosophy that every child was born to learn.
Mary Ann married her high school classmate from a class of 4, Donald Wood, on June 7,
1938. Married nearly 69 years, they were the longest married couple in Pewamos
history. Her greatest joy was her family: Patricia Wood, Bill (Janet) Wood, Fred (Joann)
Wood, Kathy (Paul) Grantz, Jenny (Carl) Shangraw, and Mike (Kathy) Wood; 19 grandchildren;
and 34 great grandchildren.
She passes on a long lasting legacy of a deep faith and trust in God, devotion to Blessed
Mary, giving to and sacrificing for others, homemade cooking, baking, traveling and love
of craft and gardening. Her favorite mottos: Have deck of cards will play; Have desserts,
will eat.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 9:00 A.M. Saturday, April 28, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic
Church in Pewamo with Rev. Fr. Charlon Mason officiating. Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 P.M.
Friday at St. Marys Funeral Chapel in Westphalia with a Rosary prayed at 3 and 8
P.M. Friday at the funeral chapel. Celebrate her love of learning by sending donations to
St. Josephs Catholic School, 104 East St., Pewamo, MI 48873. Arrangements by Osgood Funeral

Lucille
L. "Lucy" Freed
Lucille L. "Lucy" Freed, age 77, our loving wife, mother, grandmother, and
great-grandmother died peacefully April 25, 2007 at her home surrounded by her family.
Born June 14, 1929, St. Johns, MI., the daughter of Clark and Gladys Struble.
Lucille and her husband, Bill lived in Lansing for years until they retired to Derby Lake
near Stanton, MI. They recently moved to Grand Ledge. She loved spending time with her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very artistic and creative in her skills
with knitting, sewing, crocheting, and painting wood carvings made by her husband. Lucille
for many years helped her husband who owned and operated Beeman's Supermarkets in Lansing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, Harry, Bill, and Warren Struble; and
daughter-in-law, Jan Freed.
Surviving are husband of 61 years, William "Bill"
Freed; children, Barry (Jan) Freed, Rocky (Cindy) Freed, Bunnie (Bruce) Chamberlain, Kim
(Terry) Torkko, and Carol Freed; special family, Becky DeBar, and Lisa Sobczak; 11
grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; sisters, Pauline LaFave, Evelyn (Roy) Morrison,
and Grace (Don) Wood; brother, Clark (Margarite) Struble; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation is from 2-4, 6-8 p.m. Friday with Services 10:30
a.m. Saturday, April 28, in the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw,
Lansing, with Pastor Bob Goodenough officiating. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice in memory of Lucille.
Russell D. Burch
Russell D. Burch was
called to heaven on April 24, 2007. Born on December 2, 1933 to Calvin and Doris Burch of
Okemos, MI.
He was preceded in death by sister Donna ( Burch ) Hayhoe, and brother Dale Burch.
He is survived by his very special friend Meg ( Maggie ) Green, sister Shirley (Skip)
Klotz, brother Jerry (Donna) Burch, brother-in-law Mike Hayhoe (Barb), 3 children, Larry
(Sonja), Bill (Teri), Julie (Dale), 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, nieces,
nephews, and many friends. He will be missed by all the lives he touched.
Memorial Services will be held at Greenville United Methodist Church on Monday, May 7,
2007 at 11:00 A.M.
Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Lung Association or Hospice. The
family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns, Chapel.
