Edith P. Kaufman Edith Pearl Kaufman age 83 of St. Johns, Michigan
died Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at Ovid Healthcare Center Ovid, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on
Friday, June 1, 2007 at 2:00 PM. Pastor Dan Cameron will officiate with burial at
Riverside Cemetery Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 and
Thursday, May 31, 2007 from 6-8 P.M.
Edith was born in Carland, Michigan on July 15, 1923 the daughter of Herman H. and Hazel
L. ( Price ) Baese. She resided most of her life in the Elsie area and graduated from
Elsie High School. Edith was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing and reading. She was a member
of Duplain Church of Christ. Edith volunteered at the Nursing Home, and she was a 4-H
Leader.
She is survived by her daughter Becky Kaufman of Antioch, TN, son Herman and Joyce Kaufman
of St. Johns, MI, 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and brother William and Bea
Baese of Prudenville, MI. She is predeceased by her parents, one daughter Hazel Ann, and
one brother Herman.
Memorials may be made to the Historical School House, Rochester Colony or the Amercican
Cancer Society. The family is being served by Smith

Charles R. Hindall
Charles R. Hindall age 73 of Ashley, Michigan died
Sunday, May 27, 2007 at his home.
A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on
Thursday, May 31, 2007 at 11:00 AM. Mr. Thomas Bradley will officiate.
Charles was born in Edmore, Michigan on December 9, 1933 the son of Darrell and Hazel (
Chase ) Hindall. He resided most of his life in the Pompeii, and Bannister areas and
attended Vestaburg Schools. Charles married Kay Keiser on May 24, 1952. She died on August
27, 2001. He retired from GM in Lansing in 1995 after 42 years of service. He worked for
the Village of Elsie and Ovid, and for the Ashley Nursing Home. He was also a former
Little League Coach. He enjoyed helping people and sharing a joke.
He is survived by 3 daughters; Linda and David Grover of Shepard, MI, Denise Uribe of St.
Johns, MI, Sheila and Don Hier of Ashley, MI, one son Bob and Tina Hindall of Ithaca, MI,
companion Frances Bashore of Ashley, MI, 3 sisters; Mary Ellen Hetzman of Mt. Pleasant,
MI, Pat and Gordon Siggins of Grand Rapids, MI, Jo and Charles Johnson of Blanchard, MI.
He is predeceased by his parents, wife, and one sister June Hall.

Tommy E. Miller
Tommy (Tom) Miller, 54 died Monday, May 28, 2007
following a lengthy illness. Tom was born April 18, 1953 in St. Johns the son of Jack and
Catherine (Perry) Miller. He graduated from Ovid-Elsie High School in 1971. On July 27,
1973 he married Shirley Groom in Ovid. Tom worked as a Tool and Die Maker for Ovid Machine
and Tool and Clinton Machine. He was a wonderful husband, Dad and Grandpa, enjoyed
hunting, fishing, camping and his family. Tom was a member of the N.R.A., Laingsburg
Looking Glass Sportsmans Club, and the Competitive Small Bore Shooting Club. Tom
lived each day to its fullest, looking forward to the next fishing or hunting trip.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughters, Marie and Kyle Spiess of Elsie, Mindy
and Jeremy Klein of Mt. Pleasant; grandsons, Mason and Maxwell Spiess; his mother,
Catherine Miller of Ovid; brother, Alan and Maureen Miller of Ovid; sisters, Susan Miller
of Ovid and Deborah Tomasek of Howell; his parents in law, Don and Rose Groom of Ovid.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack.
The family will receive friends at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, 224-4422, St.
Johns, on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 from 2 9P.M. Memorial services will be held at
Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Thursday, May 31, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. with Everett Smith
officiating. Memorial donations may be given to Gift of Life Foundation.
Diane L. Moss
Diane L. Moss lost her
eleven year battle with cancer on Saturday, May 26, 2007 at the age of 58. She was born
May 23, 1949 in Eaton Rapids, MI the daughter of Lynn and Anne (Thornton) Faulkner. She
was a graduate of Eaton Rapids High School, a member of Pilgrim United Methodist Church
and worked for Meadowland Nursery School for over 19 years. Diane married David Moss on
September 14, 1968 and together they were involved with many bike tours throughout
Michigan such as the Shoreline and DALMAC.
Surviving is her husband David; one daughter Katie Moss of
Lansing; one son Keith (Melinda) Moss of St. Johns; four grandchildren, Alysha, Melissa,
Emily and Gregory; her father, Lynn Faulkner of Eaton Rapids; two brothers, Don (Jeannine)
Faulkner of Eaton Rapids, Dale (Barbara) Faulkner of Charlotte; one sister, Dawne
(Kenneth) Burch of Lansing.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 2,
2007 at Pilgrim United Methodist Church 2965 W. Parks Rd. St. Johns with Pastor Ken Bremer
officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 6-8 PM Friday, June 1,

Mildred K. Benadick age 91 of Ashley, Michigan, died on
Sunday, May 27, 2007 at Ashley Healthcare Center in Ashley, Michigan. Funeral services
will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie chapel on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at
11:00 A.M. Pastor Jerry Drummond will officiate and burial will take place at Ford
Cemetery, Gratiot County, Michigan. Visitation will be on Tuesday 2-8 P.M. with family
present 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.
Mildred was born in Ashley, Michigan on June 6, 1915 the
daughter of Frank and Philomena (Suchmel) Tihlarek, she attended Ashley Area Schools and
resided most of her life in the Ashley area. On June 27, 1936 she married Peter Benadick
at St. Cyrils Catholic Church in Bannister, Michigan, Peter died July 20, 1985.
Mildred retired from Ashley Hardware in 1969 and she attended East Washington United
Brethren Church in Ashley, Michigan.
Survivors include her 5 daughters, Margaret Keller of Ashley, Michigan, Patricia and Jim
Wicke of Elsie, Michigan, Millie Turner of Ashley, Michigan, Rita and Pat Cordray of
Ashley, Michigan, Debra and Don Wilson of St. Louis, Michigan, one son, Pete and Renee
Benadick of Crystal, Michigan, 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters,
Bessie Pavilicia of Toledo, Ohio, Frances Hatcher of Plymouth, Michigan, several nieces
and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, one son Rudy, 3
grandsons Scott, Kevin, Rodney, 3 sisters Ann, Mary and Lillian, 3 brothers Joe, Frank and
Rudy. Memorial may be made to East Washington United Brethren Church in Ashley, Michigan.

Cory was born in Carson City, Michigan on July 20, 1990 the son of Henry Walter and Sandra
Arlene ( Wicke ) Boulis. He resided most of his life in Ashley area and he was a sophmore
at Ashley Schools. He enjoyed working on cars, hunting, fishing, riding his bike and being
outdoors doing something. He also enjoyed spending time with friends and listening to
music and spending time with his 2 nieces.
He is survived by his parents Henry and Sandra Boulis of Ashley, MI, 1 brother Eric and
Jessica Wicke of Eureka, MI, 2 sisters; Melissa Wicke and Mark Helt of Ashley, MI, Christy
Boulis of Ashley, MI, 2 nieces; Jazmine and Cheyenne Wicke of Eureka, MI, grandparent;
Edna Wicke of Ithaca, MI, Kenneth Wicke of Florida, and several aunts and uncles. He is
predeceased by his grandparents Ethel and Walter Boulis, and 1 uncle Louis Boulis.

Erma Rose Polash age 86 of
Ashley, Michigan died on Friday, May 25, 2007 at her daughters home in Carland.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril's
Catholic Church Bannister, Michigan on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 10:00 AM. Rev. Fr.
Wolfgang Streichardt will officiate and burial will take place at Ford Cemetery Gratiot
County, Michigan. Visitation will be on Sunday 6-8 P.M. and Monday 2-8 P.M. with family
present 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie chapel. A Rosary will be
prayed Monday, May 28, 2007 at 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Erma was born in Saginaw County, Michigan on July 27, 1920
the daughter of John and Edith ( Eisenhauer ) Gaspar and resided most of her life in
Ashley Michigan, her and her husband also had lived in Houghton Lake for 17 years. She
married Louis David Polash at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Maple Grove Township,
Michigan on June 14, 1941. He died on November 30, 1994 Erma was a homemaker, who enjoyed
quilting, her flowers and gardening, was a member of the Hippo Club, and she especially
enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren playing high school sports, especially
basketball. She was also a member of St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Bannister, Michigan and
St. Cyril's Catholic Church Altar Society.
She and Louis were blessed with 16 children. Survivors
include her 8 daughters, Patricia and Robert Federspiel of Chesaning, MI, Catherine and
David Perkett of Lapeer, MI, Pamela Miscak of Alma, MI, Cecilia Polash of Ashley, MI,
Frances and Ken Albaugh of Hemlock, MI, Julie and Hank Matulewicz of Chapin, MI, Mildred
and Thomas Siegrist of Hemlock, MI, Stephanie and Ronald Burgess of Ithaca, MI, 5 sons,
David and Mareen Polash of Ashley, MI, Michael and Debbie Polash of Ashley, MI, Thomas
Polash of Ashley, MI, Louis and Clara Polash of Ashley, MI, Mark and Kim Polash of
Midland, MI, 29 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. She was predecesed by her
parents, husband, 3 sons; James, Gerald, and Paul.

Karla Bishop
Karla Jean Bishop died May 24, 2007, at the age of 54. She was born February 7, 1953 in
St. Johns, the daughter of William and Helen (Ernst) Hansen. She was a member of St.
Johns Lutheran Church. Karla married Thomas Bishop at Pilgrim United Methodist
Church on October 4, 1997 and he survives her.
Also surviving is her mother, Helen (Bud) Sage, father, William Hansen, daughters, Kendra
(Troy) Argersinger, Jessica Waltz, son, Jonathon (Ina) Waltz, five grandchildren, sister,
LuAnn (Lyle) Visser, brother, Roger (Leona) Hansen, step-sister, Bonnie Forbes and several
nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her step-brother, Gary Sage.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at St. Johns
Lutheran Church with Pastor George Brinley officiating with burial following at Mt. Rest
Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday at the Osgood Funeral
Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, MI.
Wesley J. Bush
Wesley J. Bush age 63 of
Rosebush, Michigan formerly of Elsie, Michigan died Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at Gratiot
Medical Center Alma, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel St. Johns,
MI on Saturday, May 26, 2007 at 11:00 AM. Mr. Rick Alcaraz will officiate. Visitation will
be held on Friday, May 25, 2007 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.
Wesley was born in Lansing, Michigan on February 2, 1944 the son of Wesley and Margaret (
Serrels ) Bush. He resided most of his life in Elsie, Lake George, and Rosebush, Michigan
and graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1964. Wesley married Julie Schray
on October 17, 1964 in Laingsburg, Michigan. He retired from Motor Wheel in Lansing,
Michigan, formerly owned and operated Lake George Campground and he also retired from
Hitachi in Edmore in 2003. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting, fishing, and his
grandchildren. Wesley was a former 4-H Leader and Boy Scout Leader, and a member of the
Sons of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Julie Bush of Rosebush, MI, one daughter Barbara Bush of
Farwell, MI, three sons John and Candy Bush of Ovid, MI, Mark and Brenda Bush of Ovid, MI,
Doug and Becky Bush of Maple Rapids, MI, 11 grandchildren, one sister Sheila and Victor
Lambert of Stockbridge, MI,three brothers Ronald and Regina Bush of Ovid, MI, Larry and
Barbara Bush of Bannister, MI, Rick and Evelyn Bush of Elsie, MI, and many nieces and
nephews. He is predeceased by his parents.
