Duane L. Rudy, Sr.
Duane L. Rudy, Sr. died Tuesday, June 12, 2007 in St.
Johns at the age of 76. Duane was born in Carp Lake, Michigan on July 20, 1930, the son of
Mark and Pearl (Putnam) Rudy. He was a retired switchman for General Telephone, a member
of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and I.B.E.W. Duane married Nancy Wilson
in Pellston, Michigan on June 27, 1955 and she survives him.
Also surviving are his daughters, Denise (Joe) Bancroft of South Carolina, Debra (James)
Lumbert and Brenda (Terry) Birdsley, all of St. Johns, sons, Mark (Ellen) Rudy of Elsie,
Duane (Mary) Rudy of North Branch, MI and Scott (Heather) Rudy of Charlotte, MI, 35
grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, brother, Robert (Betty) Rudy of Talking Rock, GA
and sisters, Eilen (Kenneth) Hoover of Rushville, IN and Pearline Lawrence of Arlington
Heights, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 15, 2007 at the Osgood Funeral
Home in St. Johns, burial at South Bingham Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy
officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home
with a rosary prayed at 7 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the

Z. Medina
Felicitas Z. Medina, beloved mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother, mother-in-law, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2007 at the age of
89. She was lovingly cared for at the Dimondale Care Center during the past four years.
She was born in Allende, Coahuila Mexico on June 8, 1918, the daughter of Esmerejildo and
Julia (Salgado) Zubia. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Ladies Altar
Society, and Legion of Mary. She worked in housekeeping at Clinton Memorial Hospital for
38 years. She married Miguel Medina on March 17, 1940 in Asherton, Texas. He preceded her
in death on March 29, 2001.
Surviving are four children, Emma (John) Khavari of St.
Johns; Ricardo Medina of Okemos; Felix (Drenda) of St. Johns and Dora (Bruce) Nettleman of
Eaton Rapids. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Felicitas is survived by several sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her
husband, Miguel, she was preceded in death by a son Enrique Z. Medina, brother Manuel
Zubia, Sr., sisters, Rosa Perez and Maria Inocencia Garcia.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday,
June 16, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be at Mt. Rest Cemetery with the
Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends on June 14th and June
15th, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m at the Osgood Funeral Home with a Rosary/Vigil Service being prayed on
June 15th at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church
Altar Society or Dimondale Nursing Care Center in Dimondale, MI.

age 72 of Elsie, Michigan died Monday, June 11, 2007 at Memorial Healthcare, Owosso,
Michigan.
There will be no Funeral Services. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2007
from 5-8 P.M. and Thursday, June 14, 2007 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 and 6-8
P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
Geraldine was born in Elsie, Michigan on June 13, 1934 the daughter of Jerry and Mary(
Zvonek ) Kurka. She resided most of her life in the Elsie and Durand areas and graduated
from Elsie High School with the class of 1952. Geraldine married Lawrence Duane Graham on
June 5, 1956 in Angola, Indiana. She was a homemaker. She also worked for 15 years at
Bill's Food Center in Durand, 5 years with Lasers Flowers, 10 years with Federal Mogal,
and 14 years with Walmart. Geraldine enjoyed people and working with the public. She was a
4- H Leader for several years.
She is survived by her husband Lawrence Graham of Elsie, MI, 2 daughters; Deborah Graham
of Bath, MI, Denise and Michael Robinson of Durand, MI, 1 grandson Patrick Robinson of
Durand, MI, 3 sisters; Dorothy and Lewis Baese of Elsie, MI, Joan Kurka of Elsie, MI,
Karlene and Fred Enos of Elsie, MI, brother-in-law John and Elaine Graham of Lennon, MI,
sister-in-law Beatrice and Hank Gasek of Flushing, MI, and several nieces and nephews. She
is predeceased by her parents.

Walimaki age 98 of Elsie, Michigan died Saturday, June 9, 2007 at Ovid Healthcare Center,
Ovid, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Johns Lutheran Church St. Johns, MI on Tuesday, June
12, 2007 at 11:00 AM. Rev. George Brinley will officiate with burial at Duplain Township
Cemetery Duplain Twp., Michigan. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 from
10:00 - 11:00 am at the church prior to the service.
Leola was born in Barryton, Michigan on August 2, 1908 the daughter of Harry and Mabel
Williams. She resided in the Elsie area since 1933 and attended Barryton High School.
Leola married Frank Watson, after he passed away, she married John Walimaki. She was a
homemaker. She enjoyed Tigers baseball, reading and walking her dog ZZ's. She loved to go
fishing on the Au Sable River or Pine River. Leola was a member of St. John's Lutheran
Church, St. Johns, MI.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, her beloved companion ZZ, and many friends.
She is predeceased by her parents, 2 husbands, 1 brother, and 2 sisters.

Doris Mae Robinson
Doris Mae Robinson, died June 10, 2007 at the age of
88. She was born May 30,1919 in Ada, MI, the daughter of John and Flossie (Spade)
Griffith. She married Milo W. Robinson on August 10, 1939 at the Rochester Colony, MI. She
was homemaker who enjoyed reading, cooking camping and doing crochet, but mostly she
enjoyed being a Grandma.
She is survived by her daughter Carol (Gary) Garlock of Ovid, son Dick (Dee) Robinson of
St. Johns, grandchildren Deb Garlock of Howell, Jim (Ginny) Garlock of Groton, CT, Terry
Milo Robinson of St. Johns, and Mandi Garlock of LaCrosse, WI., great-grandchildren Terry
Christopher Robinson and Thomas Glenn Robinson both of St. Johns and Jessica Grace Garlock
of Groton, CT, and her brother Lee (Pat) Griffith of Perry. In addition to Milo she was
preceded in death by three brothers Leslie, Earl and Raymond Griffith and a sister, Irene
Haggerman.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at the Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral
Homes, 232 E. Oak St, Ovid, with Pastor Dan Cameron officiating, burial
immediately following at Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one
hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Sympathies may be expressed in the form of

Lawrence W. Maas
Lawrence W. Maas died on June 9, 2007 at the age of
82. He was born in Clinton Township on December 16, 1924, the son of Clarence and Alma
(Weidman) Maas. Lawrence had a deep love of photography and worked as a professional
photographer. On November 24, 1944 he married Anna Walton in Detroit and she preceded him
in death on June 17, 2006.
He is survived by his daughters Lauren (Joe) McHale of Milford, Constance Maas and Barbara
Loraine both of California, and Claudia (Randy)Eberhard of St. Johns, his son, David
(Debra) Maas of St. Ignace, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2007 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's
Witnesses, 1998 N. Lansing St., St. Johns with James Newell officiating. Sympathies may be

Samuel Romero, Jr.
Samuel Romero, Jr., died June 8, 2007 at the age of
47. He was born October 23, 1959 in St. Johns, the son of Samuel and Sharon (Parker)
Romero, Sr. Samuel worked as a janitor for Becker Manucturing and the State of Michigan
buildings in St. Johns. He had a deep love of music, especially Elvis and playing his
guitar.
He is survived by his parents, his daughters, Jill and Jami, his brother Sidney (Brenda)
Romero, Sr of Owosso, his nephews Sidney Romero, Jr., and Michael Clemons, his niece
Jocelyn Clemons, his girlfriend Sandy Johnson and her son Zachary Clyde Johnson, special
aunts, Linda (Richard) Lake and Laura (Lou) Johnson, special uncle Cisco (Felipa) Romero
and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Samuel was preceded in death by maternal
grandparents Catherine (Kate) and Raymond E. Parker and paternal grandparents Placido and
Paula Romero.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at the Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral

Helen Vanek age 96 of Ashley, Michigan died Friday, June 8,
2007 at Carson City Hospital Carson City, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on
June 11, 2007 at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery Gratiot County,
Michigan. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2007 from 6-8 P.M. and Sunday, June
10, 2007 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.
Helen was born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania on January 19, 1911 the daughter of Michael
and Mary ( Soska ) Tupica. She resided in Pennsylvania, then Indian and most of her life
in the Ashley area. Helen married James Vanek on July 10, 1937 in Rochester Colony, MI. He
died on June 26, 1998. She was a homemaker. She loved to farm and in her younger days
would hitch up the horses and would spend hours tilling the land. When she could no longer
farm she continued to work with the soil by planting all typs of flowers. Her knowledge of
growing flowers was vast and she was always happy to share seeds, plants, bulbs, and her
flower growing wisdom with friends and family. Helen had been a member of the Ashley Board
of Education, honorary member of the ZCBJ Lodge #225 , a 4-H Leader, and she was a Red
Cross volunteer at the Ashley Nursing Home for more than 20 years.
She is survived by 3 daughters Mary Ellen and Owen Wingle of Bannister, MI, Pauline Vanek
of Lansing, MI, Frances and Donald Hutsko of Murrells Inlet, SC, 1 son Jerry and Janet
Vanek of Ashley, MI, 4 grandchildren; Craig Wingle, Sue Peterson, Pat Bancroft, Jim Vanek,
4 great grandchildren; Christopher, Amanda, Marcia, and John, and 1 sister Sophie Strnad
of Bannister, MI. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, 2 grandsons Tim and Mark
Wingle, 1 brother Michael Tupica, and 3 sisters; Julia Dvancho, Mary Kish, and Ann Thomas.

age 77 of Bannister, Michigan died Wednesday June 6, 2007 at her son's home in Bannister,
Michigan.

Marie was born in Durand, Michigan on November 11, 1929 the daughter of Virgil and Mary (
Lucas ) Long. She resided most of her life in the Bannister area and attended Crippen
Country School. Marie married Andrew Schreiner on February 11, 1948 in North Star,
Michigan. Andrew died November 27, 1991. She was a homemaker who loved being outdoors
working in her flowers, she enjoyed playing cards, and spending time with her
grandchildren. Marie enjoyed polka music and was a faithful listner of WOES Radio.
She is survived by 2 daughters Karen Kirby of Bannister, Michigan, Diane Schreiner of
Lansing, Michigan, 2 sons Louis and Kathy Schreiner of Bannister, Michigan, Kenny and
Brenda Schreiner of Chesaning, Michigan, 11 grandchildren; Tina and Bill Morey of
Laingsburg, Michigan, Robert and Sheila Kirby of Flint, Michigan, Cindy and Scott Doyle of
Shaftsburg, Michigan, Jason and Michelle Schreiner of Elsie, Michigan, Shaun Schreiner of
