Joyce Reese

Joyce Reese died Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at the age of 64. Arrangements are pending at Osgood Funeral Home.

Gordon C. Squier

Gordon C. Squier, Lansing, age 85, died July 2, 2007; born February 4, 1922 in Ovid, Michigan. Mr. Squier was a Veteran of the U. S. Navy. He retired in 1987 from General Motors and was an avid golfer. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty Jane, brothers, Jerry and Floyd and 2 sisters, Barbara and Phyllis.

Surviving are his daughter, Pamella (James) Richardson; son, Gordon (Phyllis) Squier, Jr.; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 7, 10:00 a.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Avenue, Lansing. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Lansing. The family will receive friends at the Chapel Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

James W. Fedewa

fedewa_james.jpg (4143 bytes)James W. Fedewa, 77 died Monday, July 2, 2007 at Sparrow Hospital following a short illness. Jim was born July 3, 1929 in Portland, MI the son of Herbert and Martha (Thome) Fedewa. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army during the Korean War and had worked at Fisher Body and General Motors, retiring in 1976. On Nov. 11, 1950 he married Maxine Hall in St. Johns, MI. He enjoyed playing cards at Dershey’s Café along with fishing, travel, gardening and hunting.

He is survived by his wife Maxine; daughters, Carol and Richard Briggs of Houghton Lake, Deb and Doug Bishop of St. Johns, Kathy and Eric Halitsky of St. Johns; grandchildren, Emily VanBuren of The Virgin Islands, Diana and Robert Kozak of Canada, Julie, Matthew and Amy Fedewa of St. Johns and Jimmy Bishop of St. Johns; one great-grandchild Ella Kozak of Canada; daughter in law Lela Fedewa of St. Johns; brother Paul and Lucille Fedewa of Westphalia; sister, Florence and Edwin Schneider of Lansing; sisters in law, Deloros Fedewa of Westphalia and Marilyn Fedewa of Fowler.  He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen in 2003 and two Brothers, Richard and Donald Fedewa.

Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, July 6, 2007 at 10:30 A.M. with Deacon Ed Schneider officiating. Burial will
follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, 989-224-4422, on Wednesday and Thursday, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 P.M. Thursday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society.

Doris May Hicks

Doris May Hicks, 74, of Bandera, Tex., formerly of Michigan, retired state computer specialist, died June 16. Memorial services 11 a.m. Friday at Maple Rapids United Methodist Church, Maple Rapids. Arrangements by Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera.

Dean A. Evans, Jr.

Dean A. Evans, Jr. died July 1, 2007, at the age of 42. He was born in Quantico, Virginia on August 18, 1964, the son of Dean and Annabell (Sims) Evans, Sr. He was a team operator for General Motors. Dean married Shelly Hulbert in St. Johns on December 13, 1986 and she survives him.

Also surviving are one son, Zachary Evans, one daughter, Abigail Evans, parents, Dean and Annabell Evans, Sr., one sister, Penny (Fred Potter) Evans, parents-in-law, Doug and Jane Hulbert, brother-in-law, Brian (Tina) Hulbert, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Daren A. Evans.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, July 5, 2007 at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, burial at Union Home Cemetery with Rev. Laurie Salisbury officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Tuesday and Wednesday at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Emerson A. Dunham

dunham_emerson.jpg (4654 bytes)Emerson A. Dunham of Elsie died Sunday, July 1, 2007 at Ovid Healthcare Center in Ovid, MI. He was born May 26, 1926 to Clifford and Opal (Crom) Dunham. Emerson married Dorothy Jean Bacon in Edenville, Michigan on August 6, 1949 and she survives him. He retired from Ovid-Elsie Schools as a custodian in 1988, was an active member of Elsie United Methodist Church where he was the main cook, famous for his beef and noodle suppers and Methodist Men Breakfasts. He was a 61 year member of the American Legion Post # 502 where he held several offices including Post Commander,8th District Commander, and Chaplain the last two years. In the Department he has served on the Higgins Lake, and Contest Supervisory Committee. He was on the Board of Directors with the Elsie Lions Club and a member of the Clinton County M.M.R.P.

Emerson is survived by his son, John Clifford (Pamela) Dunham, Granddaughters, Jennifer Dunham and Bethany (Neil) Dreffs, sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara Huebner, Linda (Joe) Keene, Lois Gatton, Donald (Bonna) Bacon, Richard (Carolyn)Bacon, Leland (Connie) Bacon, Allan (Bobbie) Bacon.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at The Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, burial at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie, with Pastor Ed Snook officiating. The family will receive friends Monday and Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Sympathy may expressed in the form of memorials to Elsie American Legion Post # 502.

Donald A. Henning

Don was born Sept. 14, 1929 in Clinton County, MI the son of Andrew and Elizabeth (Dobson) Henning. On October 14, 1950 he married Bonna Rae Feighner in St. Johns. Don was a car salesman for 49 years selling for Bees, Red's Auto Sales and then R & H Auto Sales. He was a member of the Legion Leader of Car Sales, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.

He is survived by his wife Bonna Rae; daughters, Diane and Jim Mead of Grand Rapids, Denise Henning of Rockford; sons Andy and Janet of Mt. Pleasant, Alan and Kristy of Oregon, Rodney and Peggy of New Jersey, Perry and Sue of St. Johns, Larry and Patty of St. Johns, Bill and Therese of St. Johns, Scott and Debbie of Fowler; 21 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ronald and Bernadine Henning of Battle Creek.He was preceded in death by five siblings, Russell, Robert and Raymond Henning, Louise Paine and Audrey Witgen.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, July 2, 2007 2:00 P.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, on Sunday, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to St. Joseph School Education Fund or Sparrow Hospice.

Raymond P. Kramer

Raymond P. "Ray" Kramer, Pewamo, beloved husband of Theresa, passed away June 28, 2007 at the age of 77. He will be dearly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was born on April 2, 1930 in Pewamo. As a lifelong resident, he owned and operated a small farm. In addition, he also worked at T.R.W for 34 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, serving as a lector for 37 years, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Ray enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, good conversation, playing cards, fishing, and sharing a laugh or joke. An avid sports fan, he attended many of his children and grandchildren's sporting events. Ray was a tireless worker who loved the land and being outdoors. He was preceded in death by his son, Jim, and parents, Hy and Clem Kramer.

Ray is survived by the love of his life, Theresa (Kohagen) Kramer, to whom he was married for 56 years; his children, Anita (Pat) Weller, Mary ( Dave) Campbell, Wendy (Lynn) Fox, all of Portland, Barb (Bob) Cena, of St. Ignace, Ron (Jackie) Kramer, Bill Kramer, Becky (Ted) Droste all of Pewamo; as well as 25 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers, Mike (Kathy), and Dick; sisters, Linda and Jean O.P., brother-in-law Jerry Kohagen; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Charlon O. Mason at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 2, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia. The Rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m., Saturday and 3 p.m., Sunday. The Scriptural Wake Service will be prayed at 8 p.m., Sunday. Complete arrangements are being handled by Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland. 

Patricia Ann "Patty" Simpson

simpson_patricia.jpg (5961 bytes)Patricia Ann "Patty" Simpson, DeWitt went to be with her Lord on June 28, 2007, after a long courageous battle with cancer at the age of 49; born December 30, 1957 in Lansing, MI. She worked for Hair Creations of St. Johns as a hair stylist. The family wishes to thank the staff at Sparrow Hospital and Detroit Medical Center for their wonderful care and kindness.

Surviving are her husband of 31 years, Jon R. Simpson; 2 sons, 1 daughter; son, Jeremy Jon (Kristy) Simpson; daughter, Jami Roberta (Ryan) Simpson-Mitchell; son, Jerrod Patrick Simpson; "G's Special Medication" 2 grandchildren, Jayden Jon and Louis T. Simpson-Mitchell; parents, Ralph and Roberta McCain; 3 brothers, Michael (Robin) McCain, Mitch (Debbie) McCain and Bob McCain; 1 special sister, Susie (David) Howland; mother-in-law, Amy Dahlgren; brothers-in-law, Danny (Judy) Dahlgren and Tim (Chris) Simpson; sisters-in-law, Deanna (Gary) Marshall, Sue (Bruce) Phelps, Debbie (Gary) Frank and Tammy Kost; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles; and special friend, Marilee Powell.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 2, 10:00 a.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt with the Rev. Bob R. Nappier of Parker Memorial, officiating. Interment will follow in Gunnisonville Cemetery, DeWitt, MI. Geraldine L. Underhill

underhill_grace.jpg (4981 bytes)Geraldine L. Underhill, 89 died Thursday, June 28, 2007 at Ovid Healthcare Center. Geraldine was born May 18, 1918 in Olive Twp. the daughter of Orla D. and Birdella (Stichler) Chadwick. After Orla’s death Birdella married Roy VanVelsor, and they raised her.

Geraldine married Claude H. Underhill on Sept. 30, 1938. He died in 1979. She supported the 4-H group, Grove School Mother’s Club, the Victor TE Club, Farm Bureau, Women’s Auxiliary in Laingsburg for 28 years, playing cards and jig saw puzzles.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Joan and Leonard Oles of Arizona, Lois and Tim Olson of St. Johns and Arlene Hutchinson of Grand Rapids; 2 sons, Jim Underhill of St. Johns and Bob Underhill of Laingsburg; 10 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Barbara VanVelsor and Beulah Chadwicand many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ola Hitchcock and 3 brothers, Harold and Louis Chadwick and Hewitt VanVelsor.

Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Monday, July 2, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Bob Prange officiating. Burial will
follow at Stilson Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. and Sunday, 2-6 P.M. Memorials may be made to The American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island, NY 10305.

E. Louise Otto

otto_louise.jpg (6505 bytes)E. Louise Otto, Haslett, born November 16, 1916 in Clinton County died June 25, 2007 at the age of 90. Mrs. Otto was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, where she was very active in church activities. She was also very active in planning Haslett High School reunions. Mrs. Otto was preceded in death by her husband, Lyons; son, Louis, and grandson-in-law, Kenneth Fox.

Surviving is her daughter, Sandra (Marvin) Forgers of St. Johns; grandchildren, Leslie Fox and Mark (Marsha) Forgers; great-grandchildren, Audrea, Jordan and Jared Fox; step-great-grandchildren, April O'Connell and Adam Alpine; 6 step-great-great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Leona Huizenga of Rochester.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 29, at 10 a.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens, Lansing.
