Geraldine L. Salter

salter_geraldine.jpg (3983 bytes)Geraldine L. Salter died August 1, 2007, at the age of 86. She was born in St. Johns on January 29, 1921, the daughter of Maurice and Agnes (Eisler) Roberts. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, enjoyed her family and raised her granddaughters, Terri Ann and Roberta. Geraldine married Robert Salter in St. Johns on December 25, 1941 and he preceded her in death on April 12, 1988.

Surviving is her son, Terry Salter of Chelsea, daughter, Susan Seibert of St. Johns, grandchildren, Louise (Darrell) Ide of Laingsburg, Brenda Trotter of Lansing, Terri Ann (Fiancé Ron) Frederick of DeWitt, Roberta (Ron) Zerfas of Portland, Mary Seibert of St. Johns, Robert Salter of Chelsea, Jennifer (James) Nofziger of Indiana, Matthew Schwieger of Texas, Tutsy (Mark) Asmus and Patsy Seidl-Mello, all of Bowling Green, OH, several great grandchildren, special friends Tim and Sue Price, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Josephine Smith.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 12:30 P.M. Saturday, August 4, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Thursday, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Friday at the Osgood Funeral Home with a vigil service 7 P.M. Friday. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to Great Lakes Hospice.

Delores Elaine Gall

Delores Elaine Gall died July 31, 2007, at the age of 73. She was born in Washington Township on September 21, 1933, the daughter of George and Marie (Drummond) Stoneman. She was a member of the First Church of God in St. Johns. Delores married Gene Gall in Ovid on May 28, 1961 and he survives her.

Also surviving are her children, Allan (Becky) Gall of St. Johns, Stacy Gall and Randy Gall, all of Bannister, grandchildren, Jeremy, Ashley, Carly, Kyle and Chad, brother, Marvin Stoneman of Ashley, sisters, Carol (Roger) Campbell of DeWitt and Carolyn (Jeff) Brown of Granite City, California, sister-in-law, Geraldine (Lumir) Bursch of Carroll, Nebraska, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, Colleen, sister-in-law, Frances Stoneman and niece, Brenda Hughes.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 3, 2007 at the First Church of God, 1063 S. DeWitt Rd., St. Johns, burial at North Star Cemetery with Pastor Paul Daniels officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M Wednesday, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to the First Church of God or to her family.

Kenneth J. Wood

wood_kenneth.jpg (4194 bytes)Kenneth J. Wood died July 31, 2007, at the age of 85. He was born in Baldwin, Michigan on March 31, 1922, the son of James and Gladys (Curtis) Wood. He was a retired lathe operator for Lans Corp., served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Lexington and was a member of Community Christian Church. Kenneth married Margaret Spears in Traverse City on June 21, 1942 and she survives him.

Also surviving are his sons, Gary (Carolyn) Wood, Larry Wood and Kenneth (Marie) Wood, grandchildren, Amy (Tom) Deak, Scott (Cari) Wood, Eric Wood and Michael (Mary) Wood, great grandchildren, Samantha Ferguson, Cody Wood and Cayla Wood, sister, Maxine (Bob) Donick, brothers, Vernon (Faith) Wood and Fred (Millie) Wood. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Howard Wood and Marvin Wood and sisters, Sophie Cole and Beatrice Parks.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 3, 2007 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Eureka Cemetery with Rev. Tyler Barlage officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Wednesday, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to the Community Christian Church Building Fund.

Gertrude Elizabeth “Gert” White

white_gert.jpg (4371 bytes)Gertrude Elizabeth “Gert” White, loving mother and grandmother, passed away July 31, 2007, at the age of 93. She was born in Eagle on February 23, 1914, the daughter of Asher and Pearl (Carter) Brown. She was a foster parent for 28 children, worked in the meat department at Byerly’s Market and was a cashier at Nick’s Fruit Market and State Discount. Gert enjoyed car racing with her son, Dick. Gertrude married William S. White in Dansville on March 31, 1934 and he preceded her in death on September 1, 1987.

Surviving are her sons, William “Bill” (Carla) White and Donald (Marlene) White, all of St. Johns, daughter, Margaret (Al) Lounds of St. Johns, 12 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, sister, Bernita (Stan) Garlock of Grand Rapids and special friends, Darcy and Mitch Hallenbeck and their daughter Sarah Elizabeth. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard White, son-in-law, Sam Parks, granddaughter, Cindy, grandson, Nicholas, two sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, August 2, 2007 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Brian Sheen officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor or Pilgrim United Methodist Church.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel St. Johns, MI on Thursday, August 2, 2007 at 1:00 PM. Pastor Daniel Cameron will officiate with burial at Duplain Township Cemetery Duplain Twp., Michigan. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.

Lilly was born in Sumerall, Mississippi on January 11, 1917 the daughter of Isaac Walton and Della Anna ( Davis ) Mills. She resided most of her life in Mississippi, Saginaw, Bridgeport, and St. Johns since 1976. Lilly married Melvin Seymour Sheldon on November 14, 1945. He died in February of 1980. She worked as a seamstress at Dapper Do in Bridgeport, making baby garments, she also worked for Reliance during World War II. She enjoyed doing yardwork including, mowing the lawn. She also enjoyed crocheting, crafts, and fishing, and she loved animals. Lilly attended Duplain Church of Christ and she was a former member of the Warren Avenue Methodist Church, Saginaw, Michigan. She was also a member of the Martha Washington Eastern Star in Saginaw, MI.

She is survived by her daughter Miggie and Neil Hall of St. Johns, MI, 4 grandchildren Dean and Diane Hall of St. Johns, MI, Scott Hall of Ovid, MI, Mark and Laura Hall of Ovid, MI, Craig and Christine Hall of St. Johns, MI, 16 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and 1 brother Malcolm Lavon Mills of Hattiesburg, MS. She is predeceased by her parents and her husband.

Memorials may be made to Duplain Church of Christ Building Fund. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel.

Thomas L. Moore

moore_thomas.jpg (5448 bytes)Thomas L. Moore died July 29, 2007, at the age of 60. He was born in St. Johns on May 21, 1947, the son of Emery and Martha (Bancroft) Moore. He was a retired Motor Wheel employee, a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler Jaycees and Fowler Lions Club. Tom married Agnes Smith in Fowler on October 21, 1972 and she survives him.

Also surviving are his daughters, Catherine Moore of Lansing and Pamela Moore of Mt. Clemens, grandsons, Rhett and Randall Brown, mother, Donna Moore of St. Johns, sisters, Ina (James) Taylor and Elizabeth (James) Stephenson, brothers, Albert (Kelly) Moore, Bruce (Eileen) Moore and Ken (Karen) Woods, brothers-in-law, John Smith and Stephen (Diana) Cook, sisters-in-law, Joanna Brown and Helen Smith, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, Charles and Mary Smith, one brother-in-law, one niece and one nephew.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Thursday, August 2, 2007 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Dennis Howard officiating. The family will receive friends 6-9 P.M. Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Wednesday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes with a rosary at 3 P.M. Wednesday and a vigil service at 8 P.M. Wednesday. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to the American Heart Association.

Charles Hengesbach

hengesbach_charles.jpg (3261 bytes)Charles Hengesbach, age 71, passed away July 27, 2007 with his family at his side. He died after a short battle with cancer. He was born and lived his entire life in Westphalia. Charlie was founder and President of Westphalia Builders and Supply Co. for 50 years. He dedicated his life to his business and family. He enjoyed golf and spending time at his cottage. He was a member of the Michigan Lumber and Building Material Dealers, Greater Lansing Home Builders, Associated Builders and Contractors, St Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Joseph Society, and the Holy Name Society. He was preceded in death by a son Vernon, daughter Gail Jegla, parents Anthony and Marcella Hengesbach and a sister, Evelyn Smith.

His love and faith will be missed by his wife of 49 years, Janet; children Kathleen Hengesbach of Lansing, Patricia (Jeffry) Thelen of Fowler, Lee Ann (Doug) Thelen of Fowler, Gary Hengesbach, Geri Hengesbach of Westphalia and son-in-law Dennis Jegla of St. Johns; 8 grandchildren; sister, Marie Schafer; brothers Albin (Ruth), Paul (Kathy), Donald (Kathy), Mark, Tony (Sharon) and James (Patty). Many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Cecilio Reyna at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Westphlia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Sunday and Monday at the St. Mary Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St.. The rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m., Sunday and 3 p.m., Monday. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m., Monday. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland.

Harold Lee Johnson

johnson_harold.jpg (11952 bytes)Harold L. Johnson, 91, of St. Johns, and formerly of Lansing and Barryton, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at the Hospice House of Lansing. He was born January 16, 1916, in Sheridan Township of Mecosta County, Michigan, to Ray and Elsie (Butcher) Johnson. Harold married Marie Whipple in 1937 and together they made their home in both the Barryton and Lansing areas. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army during World War II. Harold was preceded in death by his wife, of 64 years, Marie in 2001.

He is survived by his three daughters, Carolyn (James) Teremi of St. Johns, Shirlee (Roger) Scovill of Bay City, and Sharleen (William) Maynard of Lansing; his grandchildren, Kurt (Marikay) Teremi, Tom (Mary) Teremi, Susan (Zach) Kelley, Michael Maynard, Bethany Scovill (Kyle Neville), Katlyn Scovill, Mary (Jeff) Dionise, Bridgitt (James) Slear, six great-granddaughters, Sarah and Samantha Teremi, Michelle and Megan Teremi, Mikayla and Lily Kelley; two great-grandsons, Hunter Kelley and Asher Neville. He is also survived by his wife, Delores Blake, of Grand Rapids and her family; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 28, at 11:00 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, 510 W. Ottawa, Lansing, with the Rev. Anthony Patrick officiating. The family will greet friends at the church on Saturday, one hour prior to the service. Interment of Cremains will take place Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Strong Cemetery on 17 Mile Road south of Barryton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Harold’s name may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Lansing or Hospice House of Lansing (St. Lawrence Campus).
