Scott Frederick Kabelitz
Scott Frederick Kabelitz, age 34 of Westphalia, passed away on Saturday, November 17,
2007. He was born on September 21, 1973 in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Wilferd and
Theresa (Warnke) Kabelitz. Scott was an Assistant Boy Scout Leader for Troop #258 in
Portland, who enjoyed going on trips to Canada with the Scouts and fixing computers. Surviving are his parents, Wilferd and Theresa Kabelitz; godparents,
Stanley (Rita) Miros; and uncle, Paul (Laura) Kabelitz.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev.
Cecilio Reyna at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church,
Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at North Eagle Cemetery. The family will receive
friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E.
Bridge St., Portland. The Rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. and a Scriptural Wake Service
will be prayed at 8 p.m., Tuesday.

Thelma Marie Kridner age
94 of Elsie, Michigan died on Monday, November 19, 2007 at Ovid Healthcare Center, Ovid,
MI.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the Elsie
United Methodist Church, Elsie, MI. Pastor Edwin Snook will officiate with burial at
Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2007
from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.
Thelma was born on December 4, 1912 to Earl and Ada ( Smith ) Peterson in Elsie, Michigan.
She graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1930, from Clinton County Normal in
1931 and from Central Michigan University in 1966. Thelma married Charles J. Kridner on
June 1, 1935 in Rochester Colony. He preceded her in death in on May 29, 2002. She was a
member of the Elsie United Methodist Church, a Sunday school teacher, a member of the
United Methodist Women, Extension, Farm Bureau, Historical Society and Eastern Star. She
taught school, helped on the dairy farm and was a homemaker. She was a 4-H leader for many
years. Thelma enjoyed her family, gardening, traveling, and her church activities.
She is survived by 3 daughters; Nancy and Floyd Koerner, Audrey and Carter Crompton and
Charlene Austin. Grandchildren; Floyd and Lisa Koerner, Dawn and Alan Stroup, George and
Michelle Koerner, Katie Birmingham, Carter and Jennifer Crompton, Susan Rafferty, Amy and
Bob Morton, Allison and Doug Smith, Theresa Austin, and Carmelita and Sean Gordon, great
grandchildren; Christopher, Amy and Tracey Koerner, Caleb, Sarah, and Hannah Stroup, Jason
( Lindsey ) Koerner, Scott Koerner, Shanon ( Matt ) Aymor, Emily and Kyle Birmingham,
Carter III and Seth Crompton, Parker Jane and Brooks Rafferty, Alexis, Logan, and Madison
Morton, Mason, Chase and Jacob Smith, Joshua and Justin Cross, William and Austin Gordon,
great great grandchildren; Danielle and Gracie Koerner and Jaden Aymor, brothers; Lawrence
Peterson, Floyd and Mary Peterson and sister-in-law Doreen Kridner. She was predeceased by
her parents, husband Charles, son Charles Duane, great granddaughters; Lindsay Koerner and
Victoria Gordon, brother Paul, and son-in-law Wayne Austin.

being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
Loretta Simon
Loretta Simon, age 89 of Westphalia, loving mother,
grandmother, great-grandmother passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2007. She was born
December 31, 1917 in Westphalia Township the daughter of Isadore and Anna (Stump) Fedewa.
Loretta was an active member of St. Mary's Parish in Westphalia and also the Christian
Mothers Society. Family was her great joy. She loved nothing better than to be surrounded
by their presence. The commotion they caused gave her strength and happiness. She was
known for committing quiet, random acts of kindness for her family, friends, neighbors and
other community members. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin Simon;
daughter, Katherine Snyder; and two brothers, Roman and Herman Fedewa.
She is survived by her 3 sons, Ronald "Butch"
(Phyllis) Simon, Roy (Ann) Simon and Larry (Therese) Simon; extended family member, Bob
Shepard and his family; son-in-law, John Snyder; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren;
and brothers, Anthony "Tony" and Douglas "Dick" Fedewa.

Wendy Harrison-Allen
Wendy Harrison-Allen died November 17, 2007, at the age of
30. She was born in Bad Axe, Michigan on October 10, 1977, the daughter of James and
Beatrice (Schultz) Allen.
Surviving is her husband, Brian Allen, sons, Blake Harrison-Garland, Ethan Harrison and
Morgan Harrison, daughter, Makayla Klatt, mother, Bea Harrison, father, James and Desi
Harrison, brothers, James (Lori) Harrison, Cody Smith and Tyler Smith, stepsister,
Jillian, father-in-law, Jim (Theresa) Allen, mother-in-law, Jane (Joe) Dowd, grandmother,
Louise Harrison, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, special friends, Robert and
Cory and too many others to mention. Wendy was preceded in death by grandparents, Lawrence
and Catherine Schultz, grandfather, Clyde Harrison, great grandparents, Joseph and
Marguerite Lauwers and aunt, Joanne Spooner.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at the Houghton Chapel of
the Osgood
Funeral Homes, 232 E. Oak St., Ovid, burial at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ovid, with
Pastor Eric Numeric officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at the

Lila M. Mills
Lila M. Mills age 73, of Elsie, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, at Hurley Medical
Center, Flint.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Owosso First Church of God, 2100 North
M-52, with Pastor John Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Eureka Cemetery in
Clinton County. Visitation at Mowen Funeral Home - William A. Scarlett
Memorial Chapel, a Character Counts Community Business will be today from 2 to
8 p.m. Mrs. Mills will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until service
time.
Lila was born May 13, 1934, in Mt. Morris, Mich., the daughter of Henry J. and Wilma Ruth
(Kirby) Voorheis. She attended Owosso Public Schools, graduating from Owosso High School,
class of 1952. Lila married Irving C. Mills at the Owosso Wesleyan Church Parsonage on
Dec. 30, 1953.
She was a member of Owosso First Church of God and loved to play the piano and organ at
church. She would send cards of remembrance and her prayers to just about everyone. She
loved working crossword puzzles and playing board games. Lila was a caring and loving
wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Survivors include: husband, Irving of Elsie; children, Peggy (Fred) Brown of Ovid, Keith
(Carol) Mills of Owosso, Lori (Kevin) Johnson of Laingsburg, Lisa (Eric) Sexton of Elsie;
grandchildren, Christeen Mills of Flint, Tiffany Johnson and Chase Johnson of Laingsburg,
Shannon Sexton of Elsie; two great-grandsons, Anthony Miles and Ethan Miles; brother,
Jerry (Betty) Voorheis of Grand Blanc; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Owosso First Church of God Building
Fund.
Keith A. Phelps,
D.D.S.
Dr. Keith A. Phelps, 83, of Battle Creek, died Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at Calhoun
Medical Care Facility. He was born on April 11, 1924 in Mayville, Michigan to Walter B.
and Eleanor (Swailes) Phelps. The family lived in New Haven and then moved to St. Johns
where he graduated from high school. Following high school graduation, he attended the
University of Michigan for two years where he excelled at playing varsity baseball. He
then transferred to Ohio State University to attend dental school. He was also a member of
the varsity baseball team and became one of two men to ever receive varsity letters from
both schools. The two men were recognized for this feat at half-time during one of the
Ohio State-Michigan football games. He was very proud of this accomplishment, but he
remained a loyal Michigan fan throughout his lifetime.
After serving in the United States Navy aboard an aircraft
carrier during the Korean Conflict, he returned to Michigan to begin his practice in
dentistry. He came to Battle Creek in 1952 where he served his patients until his
retirement in 1986. It was while attending school in Columbus Ohio that he met his future
wife. He and Dorothy Hensel were married there in June of 1946. Together they raised two
children, Dr. Dennis (Amy) Phelps of Colorado Springs, CO and Martha (Gregg) Kelly of
Battle Creek.
Surviving are his two children, five grandchildren, Reid
(Kalyn) Phelps, Jason Phelps, Mallory Kelly, Ryan Kelly, Morgan Kelly and a sister, Jean
Krohn of Battle Creek. He was preceded in death by his parents, a twin sister, Ardith
(Carl) Jorgensen and a brother, Neil Phelps.
Visitation will be on Friday, November 16, from 2:00 - 4:00
and 6:00 - 8:00 at the Farley-Estes and Dowdle Funeral
Home. Services for the family will be held at
