Florence E. Halfmann

halfmann_florence.jpg (4102 bytes)Florence E. Halfmann, 94 died Tuesday, December 04, 2007 at Hazel Findlay County Manor. Florence was born June 17, 1913 in Pewamo, MI the daughter of Frank and Dora (Werner) Smith. On June 12, 1934 she married Martin Halfmann in Pewamo. He died Sept. 25, 1986. Florence was a homemaker, member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers.

She is survived by a son, Elvan Halfmann of Westphalia; daughters, Marilyn (James) Smith of Westphalia, Doris (Donald) Goerge of Fowler, Eileen (James) Murphy of Shamong, N.J. and Janet (Clare) Thelen of Fowler; 23 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, 4 step-great grandchildren and 2 step- greatgreatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Reynold, Roman, Albert and Carl Smith 2 sisters, Julia Simon and Dorothy Wieber, daughter-in-law, Rita Halfmann 3 grandchildren, Carolyn, Marilyn and Donald Goerge and great-grandchild Everett Thelen.

The Mass of Christian Burial will he held at St. Mary Catholic Church, Westphalia on Friday, Dec. 7, 2007 at 10:30 A.M. with Fr. Cecilio Reyna officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Rosary services will be at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, and 3:00 P.M. Thursday. A scripture service will be prayed on Thursday evening at 8:00 P.M. The family will receive friends at St. Mary Chapel on Wednesday, 7-9 P.M. and on Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Memorials may be given for family wishes. Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns, MI  is serving the family.

E. Ivan Fink

fink_ivan.jpg (4190 bytes)E. Ivan Fink died at home surrounded by his family on December 3, 2007, at the age of 79. He was born in Bengal Township on June 17, 1928, the son of Edward and Lillian (Sutton) Fink. He was a Federal Mogul retiree, a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church and American Legion Post #0008 (Winterhaven, FL) and enjoyed spending summers at his cottage at Crystal Lake and winters in Haines City, FL. Ivan married Patricia Hafner in Fowler on December 27, 1951 and she survives him.

Also surviving are his daughters, Mary Lil (Ken) DeLaat of Newaygo, MI and Susan (Richard) Braun of Humphrey, NE, sons, Tim (Carol) Fink of St. Johns, Jeff (Bev) Fink of Pewamo and Mike (Bonnie) Fink of Westphalia, 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, sisters, Marlene Rosloniec and Alice Stump, sisters-in-law, Donna George and Barb Platte, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Tom Fink, granddaughter, Danielle Fink, brother, Dick Fink and sister, Elaine Halfmann.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Friday, December 7, 2007 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, burial at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Dennis Howard officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Wednesday and Thursday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes with a rosary prayed at 3 and 8 P.M. Wednesday, 3 P.M. Thursday and a vigil service 8 P.M. Thursday. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to Clinton Memorial Hospital or Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Lucile M. Phelps

phelps_lucile.jpg (4239 bytes)Lucile M. Phelps died Monday, December 3, 2007 at the age of 72. She was born February 9, 1935 in Gratiot County, Michigan the daughter of Arlie and Leona (Hoffer) Peck and has lived in the St. Johns area most all her life. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in St. Johns as a former Sunday school teacher and a member of the Senior Saints group. Lucile was a nurse’s aide at Clinton Memorial Hospital in St. Johns for many years. On August 3, 1957 she married Richard Phelps and he preceded her in death in March of 1998. She also was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, R.G. and Gordon Peck.

Surviving are two daughters, Deborah Cressman and Connie Phelps both of St. Johns; one son, Eric Phelps of Harrison; two grandsons, Trevor and Nicholas Cressman; three sisters, Doris Wilkie of St. Johns, Florence (Jerry) Boulis and Betty Muscott all of Ashley; two brothers, Richard (Linda) Peck of Chesaning and Lloyd (Kathy) Peck Sr. of Elsie and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at First Baptist Church, 512 S. US 27, St. Johns with Pastor Tim Knaus officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 6-8 pm Tuesday at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns 989-224-4422. Memorials may be made to Clinton Memorial Hospital.

Wayne G. Bruin

bruin_wayne.jpg (4348 bytes)Wayne G. Bruin died Friday, November 30, 2007 at the age of 76. Born in Chicago Heights, IL, he was the son of Peter and G. Lorrine (Thompson) Bruin and owned/operated Bruin Tire in Lansing. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns. Wayne married Mary Kintz on July 3, 1955.

He is survived by two daughters, Mary Bruin and Martha Bruin; three sons, Martin Bruin, Michael Bruin and Mark Bruin all of St. Johns; grandchildren, Christopher Bruin, Ryan Bruin, Veronica Jerome, Jacob Bruin and Joshua Bruin. Wayne is also survived by sisters, Dorothy (Jim) McGhee of Fl, Lois (Larry) Miller of OH and Joyce Jagus also of OH; neices and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dale Bruin.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 5th at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns with Rev. Fr. Dwight Ezop officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm Tuesday, November 4 at the Osgood Funeral Home at 104 E. Cass in St. Johns. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

Mary Louise Karber

karber_mary.jpg (4672 bytes)Mary Louise Karber died November 28, 2007, at the age of 89. Born in Fowler, Michigan March 10, 1918, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Martin) Edinger. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and worked as the Clinton County Abstractor and retired from Old Kent Bank. Her marriage to James Karber on June 2, 1947 ended with his death April 13, 1975.

She is survived by one sister Ruth Edinger of St. Johns and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Joan Ernst and three brothers, Martin, Lawrence and James Edinger.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, December 1, 2007 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Thomas Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Johns Senior Citizen Center.
