Helen A. Woodhams
Helen A. Woodhams, age 99, died January 27, 2008.
Born May 22, 1908 in Freeland, MI, the daughter of Richard D. and Mary Jane (Cornell)
Houseman. Helen lived in St. Johns most of her life and was the First Aid Nurse at Federal
Mogul for many years. She married Herschel Woodhams October 16, 1926 and he preceded her
in death August 2, 1991.
She is survived by one son, Richard (Marie) Woodhams, four daughters, Gerri (Tom) Wyble,
Shirley (Charlie) Edwards, Marianna Mills, all of St. Johns, and Helen (Jerry) Santrucek
of Bannister, eighteen grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren, thirty-nine great
great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Helen was preceded in death by her
sister, Agnes Esther Lawrence, son-in-law, Ben Mills, grandsons, David and Richard
Mygrants, great granddaughters, Cassie Anne and Allie Cheeney.
Funeral Services will be 1:30 P.M. Wednesday January 30, 2008 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at
Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 P.M. Tuesday evening January 29 at
the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor
or the Alzheimer's Association.David John Thompson

56 of Perrinton, Michigan died Sunday, January 27, 2008 at at his home.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel Ithaca, MI on
Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Rev. Charles Thompson and Mr. Ward Thompson will
officiate with burial at Fairfield Township Cemetery Fairfield Twp., Michigan. Visitation
will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 from 6-8 P.M. and Wednesday, January 30, 2008
2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.
David was born in Port Huron, Michigan on July 4, 1951 the son of Florian and Ilene (
Thompson ) Peterson. He resided most of his life in Clinton & Gratiot Counties and
attended Ovid Elsie Schools. David married Donna Goodrich on December 23, 1972 in Ovid,
Michigan. David had owned and operated D & D Collision in Owosso, Maple Rapids Auto
Salvage in St. Johns, US-27 Auto Parts & Sales in Ithaca, and was currently owner of
the US-27 Auto in St. Louis. He was an avid car collector. David was a member of the Maple
Valley Lions Club & American Motors Crusiers Car Club.
He is survived by his wife Donna Thompson of Perrinton, MI, 1 daughter Jessica &
Justin Lohrer of Pompeii, MI, 2 grandsons; Jarrett & Jayden Lohrer, father Florian
Thompson of Mississippi, mother-in-law Thelma Goodrich of Ashley, MI, 3 brothers; Dan
& LeighAnn Thompson & Family of St. Johns, MI, Tom & Joyce Zyniecki &
Family of West Virginia, Warren Thompson & Family of Mississippi, and 1 sister Jane
& John Daughtrey & Family of Mississippi. He is predeceased by his mother,
daughter Carey, and father-in-law Lewis Goodrich.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the Donor's Choice. The family is being served by
Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel.
Norma A. Rivest
Norma A. Rivest died January 25, 2008, at the age of 83. She was born in Elsie on October
12, 1924, the daughter of Ward and Agatha (Andersen) Lewis. She was the past Village of
Ovid Treasurer and member of the Hiawatha Sportsmans Club. Norma married Max Rivest
in Elsie on June 18, 1944 and he preceded her in death on October 21, 2001.
Surviving are her children, Pat Rivest of Ovid, Connie Jones of Elsie, Gary (Debbie)
Rivest of Corunna and Barry Rivest of Ovid; grandchildren, Jamie Jones, Jim Jones II,
Jennifer (Tim) Jones, Kathryn Rivest, Jason Rivest and Andrew Rivest; and great
grandchildren, Sydney Jones, Claudia Jones and Olivia Rivest. In addition to her husband
Max, she was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Lewis and sister, Pauline Roof.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 28, 2008 at the Houghton Chapel of the
Osgood Funeral Homes, burial
at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, with Rev. Donald Fry officiating. The family will receive
friends 6-8 P.M. Saturday and 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Sympathy may be
expressed in the form of memorials to the Alzheimers Association.
Alice B. Gallt
Alice B. Gallt age 89 of
Ovid, Michigan died Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Masonic Pathways, Alma, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held at First Baptist Church Ovid, Michigan on Monday, January
28, 2008 at 1:00 PM. Pastor George Ayoub will officiate with burial at Middlebury Township
Cemetery Middlebury Township, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 27,
2008 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. An Order of Eastern Star
Service will be held on Sunday at 7:00 P.M.
Alice was born in Ovid, Michigan on September 4, 1918 the daughter of Judson and Nellie (
Gibbs ) Carpenter. She resided most of her life in the Ovid area and graduated from Ovid
High School with the class of 1936. Alice married James C. Gallt on September 8, 1939 in
Ovid, Michigan. He died on July 6, 1985. She was a homemaker and a former school bus
driver for Ovid-Elsie High Schools. Alice was a member of First Baptist Church of Ovid
since she was 12 years old. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #79 of
St. Johns, MI., Ovid Historical Society, Ovid Duplain Library Club, and the Senior
Citizens of Ovid.
She is survived by 2 daughters; Rita and Glen Hehrer of Ovid, MI, Diana and Kurt Jones of
Lakeview, MI, 2 sons; Dennis and Dawn Gallt of Seward, AK, James Gallt of Ovid, MI, 9
grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchildren. She is predeceased
by her parents, husband, great granddaughter Amber Fisher, sister Marguerita Knepper, and
brother and sister-in-law Gerald and Hazel Carpenter.

Sophie Strnad
Sophie Strnad age 91 of
Bannister, Michigan died Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Ingham Regional Medical Center,
Lansing, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on
Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Mr. Thomas Bradley will officiate with burial at
Ford Cemetery Gratiot County, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 25, 2008 from
4-8 P.M.
Sophie was born in East Chicago, Illinois on May 30, 1916 the daughter of Michael and Mary
( Sosoko ) Tupica. She resided most of her life in Bannister, Michigan. Sophie married
Charles Strnad on July 3, 1939 in Rochester Colony, MI. He died on February 25, 1988. She
was a homemaker. She enjoyed her flower garden, baking and going to the casino. Sophie was
a member of the ZCBJ Lodge #225.
She is survived by a daughter Helen and John Granger of Burt, MI, 2 sons; Carl and Lynn
Strnad of Bannister, MI, Dan and Robin Strnad of Bannister, MI, 7 grandchildren, and 5
great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, 4 sisters; Mary, Ann,
Helen, and Julia and a brother Mike.
Memorials may be made to ZCBJ Lodge #225 or WOES Radio at OE Schools. The family is being

Peggy S. Mathews
Peggy S. Mathews died January 21, 2008 at the age of 50. She was a nurse at Burcham Hills
Retirement Community.
