Rosaline M. Smith

Smith, Lansing, born February 27, 1925 in Fowler, MI, the daughter of Louis J. and Catherine (Thelen) Pohl, passed away Monday, February 25, 2008 surrounded by her family. Rosaline retired from the YMCA. She was a charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and was very active in the Altar Society and Circles. She was a longtime Square Dancer and member of the Pairs and Squares and will be remembered for her Cake Decorating skills. She is preceded in death by her parents; 2 children, Donald and Mark; a sister, Sr. Mary Bernice (Sisters of Mercy); and a son-in-law; Sidney Green.

Surviving are her husband, Delbert, of 60 years; 11 children; Marvin (Birdy), Agnes Green, Ronald (Lucille), Eugene (Linda), Marilyn (Donald) Thelen, Steven, Gregory (Maria), Kevin (Michelle), Roger (Nancy) and Sharon (Russell Sr.) Crowe; 2 daughters-in-law; Cathy Smith and Susan Smith; numerous loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 8 siblings; Norbert Pohl, Gerald (Joan) Pohl, Sr. Bernadine, Sr. Dorothy, Sr. Mary Ann (Dominican Sister of Racine, WI), Fr. Leon Pohl, and Joseph (Marie) Pohl; and many loving nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated, Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. John Byers as celebrant. Rite of committal will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday and Wednesday, 2-4 and 6-8 at the Palmer Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Lansing Chapel, 520 E. Mt. Hope, where the Rosary will be prayed Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. and a Vigil will be prayed Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Memorials can be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

Donna M. Love

love_donna.jpg (4910 bytes)Donna M. Love passed away February 24, 2008, at the age of 83. She was born in St. Johns on November 28, 1924, the daughter of Orla and Wilma (Bolton) Clark. She was a retired nurse for Clinton Memorial Hospital and member of Pilgrim United Methodist Church. Donna married Lloyd Love in St. Johns on March 16, 1946 and he preceded her in death on February 6, 2007.

Surviving are her sons, Kenneth (Marti) Love of Howell, Norman (Lila) Love of Jackson, Keith (Becky) Love of Ovid and John (Kathy) Love of St. Johns, 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and sister, Shirley (Gerald) Benedict. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Melissa Love and sister, Glenna Stackable.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Thursday, February 28, 2008 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Pastor Kenneth Bremer officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 Wednesday at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to Pilgrim United Methodist Church or Hospice of Lansing, 3411 Stoneleigh Dr., Lansing, MI 48910.

Lowell D. Boyce

Lowell Dean Boyce, born November 3, 1954, died in his home in Fowler, MI on February 24, 2008.

He is survived by his 2 sons, Ben (Tiffany) Boyce of Savannah, GA and Alex Boyce of Marina Del Rey, CA; his mother, Evelyn Jean Boyce of Grand Ledge, MI; 2 sisters, Eileen (Tom) Herbst of Brighton, MI and Andrea (Doug) Kurth of St. Johns, MI; and 2 brothers, Gary (Pam) Boyce of Grand Ledge, MI and Maynard (Laurie) Boyce of Bradenton, FL. His loving pet, Duncan, survives. His father, James Robert Boyce, preceded him in death in 1994.

A family memorial service will be held at a future date. Arrangements by the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, MI.  Those who wish may make contributions to the American Diabetes Association.

Hilda A. Micka

micka_hilda.jpg (4895 bytes)Hilda A. Micka age 86 of Elsie, Michigan died February 22, 2008 at Ashley Care Center, Ashley, Michigan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church Ovid, MI on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at 10:00 AM. Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek will officiate with burial at Riverside Cemetery Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2008 from 6-8 P.M. and Monday, February 25, 2008 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.

Hilda was born in Bannister, Michigan on July 30, 1921 the daughter of Paul and Josephine (Klauda) Hrncharik. She resided most of her life in Elsie area, Hilda married Joseph Micka on August 16, 1941 in Bannister, Michigan. She retired from Leer Corporation in Elsie and was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Hilda was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Ovid, Michigan and the ZCBJ Lodge #225 in Bannister.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Micka of Elsie, MI, 2 sons, Thomas and Jodi Micka of St. Johns, MI, Raymond and Barb Micka of Ypsilanti, MI, 1 daughter, Betty Jane Micka and Jeff Conway of Loveland, CO, daughter-in-law, Candis Micka of Elsie, MI, 10 grandchidren, 9 great grandchildren, 1 sister, Rosemary and Robert Marks of Owosso, MI, 1 brother, John and Evelyn Hrncharik of St. Johns, MI, many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, 4 sons James, Fred, Jerry and Joseph, 1 grandson, John, 1 great grandson Jacob, 1 sister Alice Fornusek, 1 brother, Paul Hrncharik.

Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, Ovid, Michigan. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Maxine Kremer

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on Monday, February 25, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Jon Pohl will officiate with burial at Ford Cemetery Gratiot County, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2008 from 5-8 P.M. and Sunday, February 24, 2008 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.

Maxine was born in Gratiot County, Michigan on August 8, 1917 the daughter of William and Frances ( King ) Terrell. She resided most of her life in Bannister, Michigan and graduated from Bannister High School with the class of 1936. Maxine married Marcus Kremer on September 4, 1940 in Saginaw, Michigan. He passed away on May 3, 1961. She was a busdriver for Ashley Schools and a homemaker. Maxine enjoyed crocheting, tating, sewing, and gardening. She loved animals and horses especially ponies. Maxine was a member of Ashley United Methodist Church, Ashley, Michigan as well as the United Methodist Women, Fenmore's Ladies, Cresent Club and Bannister's Happy Hippo Club.

She is survived by 3 sons; Karl and Rolayne Kremer of Bannister, MI, Kent and Joann Kremer of Saginaw, MI, Max and Donna Kremer of Bannister, MI, 1 daughter Joy and Paul Coon of Pompeii, MI, 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 2 sisters-in-law; Donna Terrell of Bannister, MI, Shirley Evans of Ashley, MI, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, grandson Klay Karl Kremer and 2 brothers; King and Kaye Terrell.

Helen M. Simmon

Born August 24, 1913 in Westphalia, the daughter of William and Catherine (Goerge) Weber and lived in Fowler most of her life. She was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella and the Christian Women’s Association. Helen married Edmund J. Simmon in Fowler on June 11, 1935 and he preceded her in death November 21, 1996.

She is also survived by one son, William (JoAnn) Simmon of Fowler, one daughter-in-law, Marcia Simmon of Lake George, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one brother, Urban Weber of Fowler, two sisters, Dorothy Melvin of Ionia and Rita (Bob) Sonday of Portland. In addition to her husband, Helen was preceded in death by one son, Richard Simmon, two grandsons, Brian and Stacy Simmon, seven brothers, Herman, Robert, William, Jim, George, Lawrence and infant brother Joseph Weber and one sister, JoAnn Hoppes.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, burial in Most Holy Trinity Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Dennis Howard officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Friday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Fowler with a rosary prayed at 3 and 8 P.M. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to Most Holy Trinity Educational Trust Fund or Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor.

Donna M. Swarthout

Donna M. Swarthout died February 20, 2008, at the age of 71. She was born in Owosso, MI on December 31, 1936, the daughter of Harvey Walker and Alma (Mackinstry) Walker. She married Lewis “Lucky” Swarthout on March 27, 1954 in Owosso and he preceded in death on May 22, 1998.

She is survived by her son, Wade Swarthout, brothers, Harvey (Barbara) Walker and Bruce (Charlotte) Walker. Along with her husband, Donna was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Peggy Shelest and Bonnie Walker, and brother, Robert Walker.

Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. Friday, February 22, 2008 at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass Street, St. Johns, MI, burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in Owosso following the service, with Pastor Gibby Hale officiating. The family will receive friends 11:30 A.M. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home. Sympathies may be expressed in the form of contributions to the a charity of the family’s choice.

Frances B. Isenhath

Born on July 17, 1918 in Bath, MI; passed away on February 20, 2008 in St. Johns, MI, at the age of 89. Frances worked for Fisher Body for 30 years and was a proud member of U.A.W. Local 602. She loved working in her garden with her niece, the sharing of seeds from her many plants and going to the Mint Parade. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Isenhath, Jr.; daughter, Barbara Blevins; parents, Frank and Bertha Kowalk; sister, Florence Kzeski; and brother, Bernard Kowalk.

Surviving are sister, Freda Fay, and nieces, Sherry (Harold) Foster, Stacy (Mark) Fortino and Karen (Bob) Dill.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing with the Rev. Don Sleeman officiating. Interment will follow in Riverdale Cemetery, Riverdale, MI. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Hazel Findlay, 1101 S. Scott Road, St. Johns, MI 48879 or Sparrow Hospice of Clinton County, P.O. Box 30480, Lansing, MI 48909 in memory of Frances.
