Oscar W. Young Oscar W. Young died on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at the age of 84. He was born on January 21, 1924. He married Thelma Russell on June 20, 1953 in St. Johns, and she preceded him in death on March 16, 1998. He worked as a quality control engineer at Diamond REO. He enjoyed gardening, CB radios and was an enthusiastic conversationalist. Oscar is survived by his son, Dale (Wendy) Young, his grandson, Brandon, his granddaughters, Chelsea and Courtney, great grandson, Michael Allen, sisters, Nellie and Jeannie. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his four brothers, Bud, Philo, Stanley and Marion. Graveside services will be held at South Bingham Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 6, 2008 with the Rev. David Hudgens officiating. Sympathies may be expressed in the form of memorial contributions to the Alzheimers Association. Arrangements by the Osgood Funeral Home. Shirley Eiseler was 86 proof as she joined her husband Frank on Friday May 30th. She will be deeply missed and never replaced, as she was quite the character in the minds of her daughter Deb, sister Nadine, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews, as well as countless friends she made along the way. She leaves behind a trail of memories that span from the tips of the U.P. all the way to the tip of the U.S. She brightened lives with her knitting, elaborate earrings and watches, stories from the "good ole days" and her remarkable strength. Shirley left her mark in Gladstone, St. Johns, Lansing and many other towns during her adventures through life and though not without faults, was one of few that knew what the true meaning of a good time was. Private family services will be held at a later date. The family is being served by the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Home, Lansing Chapel. Dorothy B. Knight of St. Johns, Michigan died Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at the age of 89. She was born October 6, 1918 in St. Johns the daughter of Homer and Kitty (Andrus) Becher and lived all her life in St. Johns. She was a retired bookkeeper and was active in womens bowling in St. Johns for nearly 50 years serving as secretary/ treasurer of the Womens Bowling Association for 24 years and as league secretary/ treasurer for 48 years. She was a former member of the Rebekahs. On February 26, 1945 she married George Knight and he preceded her in death on March 9, 1987. She was also predeceased by two brothers and three sisters. Surviving are three sons, Eric Rick (Lynda), Kurt and Craig (Phyllis Givens) all of St. Johns; four grandchildren, Erica (Jay) Bancroft of Fowler, Sean Knight of Ypsilanti, MI, Heidi (Denham) Tucker and Brandy (Joe) Cole all of VA; and four great grandchildren, Shawna and Lauren Bancroft and Demitrius and Kaylee Cole. Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Saturday, May 31, 2008 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Rev. Cayle Beagle officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 pm Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Dorothy Knight Scholarship Fund for Youth Bowling. Ella I. 93 died May 28, 2008at Oliver Woods Retirement Village, Owosso, MI Ella was born She is survived by daughters Helen (Ivan) Moore of St. Johns, Elizabeth Passamaneck (Ken) of California, and Nancy Hiller of Georgia and son James (Patricia) Griffin of Grand Rapids, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, sisters Hazel Johnson of Maple Rapids and Anna May Conklin of Owosso and brother Stanley Hicks of Texas and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Ella was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Elston and Frederick Hicks and her sister Marian Baker. Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church, St. Johns, Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Lori Sykes officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Sowl Cemetery.The family will receive family and friends one hour prior to service at the Church. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church. Elaine A. Litwiller Genevieve I. Motz died Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at the age of 89. She was born October 5, 1918 in St. Johns, Michigan the daughter of Davis and Mabel (Cornell) Thurston. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Society. She enjoyed playing cards and loved visiting with family and friends. On May 16, 1946 she married Edward A. Motz and he preceded her in death June 14, 2000. In addition to her husband, Gen was predeceased by one son, Robert Larry Motz, one great grandson, Tyler Bauer Seavey, one sister, Marge Kramer and one brother, Robert Thurston. Surviving are four daughters, Sharon (Stu) Fitzpatrick and Betty (Barry) Bauer all of St. Johns, Barb (Mark) Parbs of Medicine Lake, Washington, and Deb (Jeff) Wilcox of Jackson, one son, David (Jane) Motz of St. Johns; 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am Friday, May 30, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 109 Linden St. Johns with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy as celebrant. Rite of Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 6-8 pm Thursday with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns. Patterson died Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at the age of 55. He was born March 24, 1953 in St. Johns, Michigan the son of Robert and Rosalee (Feighner) Patterson and lived all his life in St. Johns. He was a 1971 graduate of St. Johns High School and enjoyed boating, fishing, camping and traveling across America. Kim was a former Boy Scout Master and loved spending time with his children and going to their activities and especially loved spending time with his wife Sandra on their boat. He was an avid auto racing fan and enjoyed following his brother Kris and his racing team to races around the country. In 1993 he took over his fathers business and was owner and operator of Bobs Auto Body in St. Johns. On August 4, 1973 Kim married Sandra Bailey and she survives him. Also surviving is one daughter, Jamie of Mt. Pleasant; two sons, Bryan (Morgan) of Traverse City, and Wesley of St. Johns; parents, Robert and Rosalee Patterson; one brother, Kris (Cathy) and one sister, Linda all of St. Johns; mother-in-law, Shirley Bailey of Harrison and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 12:00 noon Saturday, May 31, 2008 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns with Rev. Matthew W. Olson officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 6-8 pm Friday and one hour prior the funeral on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Northwoods Boy Scout Reservation, 3552 Lakeshore Dr. Lupton, MI 48635. Jonathan N. Abbott passed unexpectedly on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the age of 38. He was born March 3, 1970 in Carson City, Michigan the son of George Jr. and Patricia (Lewis) Abbott. He was a graduate of Fulton High School and most recently working for Le Comm Communications. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his daughter, Nicole. Surviving are his parents George Jr. and Patricia Abbott of Maple Rapids; one brother, Patrick (Darla) Abbott of St. Ignace, MI; one sister, Georgiana (Kenneth) Norris of Harlan, IN; his grandmother, Helen Lewis of Perrinton; his daughter Nicole and her brother Brenden and their mother Lynnet Norton of St. Johns and several nieces and nephews. Jonathan will be sadly missed but he will never be forgotten. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, May 31,
2008 at the Maple Rapids United Methodist Church 330 S. Maple St. with pastor Kathy
