James E. Powers
James E. Powers died June 16, 2008, at the age of 83. He was born in Howell on September
12, 1924, the son of Franklin and Eva (Hudson) Powers. He was a retired material handler
for Oldsmobile, a veteran of the US Army and a member of the V.F.W. in Perrinton. James
loved horses and dancing. He married Dawn Sillman in Maple Rapids on September 27, 1947
and she survives him.
Also surviving is his daughter, Sandra (Michael) Hogle of Perrinton, 5 grandchildren, 9
great grandchildren, 3 sisters-in-law, 3 brothers-in-law, many nieces and nephews and
close friend, James Stevens.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 20, 2008 at the Abbott Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, 509 E. Main
St., Maple Rapids with burial at Union Home Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4
and 6-8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of

of Elsie, Michigan died Monday, June 16, 2008 at her home.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on
Friday, June 20, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Chaplin Beverly Adcock will officiate with burial at
Fairfield Township Cemetery Fairfield Township, Michigan. Visitation will be held on
Wednesday, June 18, 2008 from 6-8 P.M. and Thursday, June 19, 2008 from 2-8 P.M. with
family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.
Esther was born in Durand, Michigan on March 15, 1947 the daughter of John Lee and
Marguerite ( Miller ) Burnside. She resided most of her life in Elsie, Michigan and
graduated from Ashley High School with the class of 1965. Esther married Arlin Mason on
July 3, 1965. She was a homemaker and a factory worker. She was an avid fisher, hunter,
and outdoor person. She loved all crafts, playing cards, bingo, and spending time with her
grandchildren and the rest of her family.
She is survived by her husband Arlin Mason of Elsie, MI, children; Laurie Mason of
Valdosta, GA, Jeff Mason and Tamara Hemenway of Owosso, MI, Karrie Vancise and Gregg Mead
of Elsie, MI, grandchildren; Misty Mason, Crystal and Kyle Berry, Tony Mead, Miranda Mead,
Cassey Vancise, great grandchildren; Hallee Mason, and baby Berry on the way, sisters;
Joyce Rasera of Owosso, MI, Denise Hildebrant of Owosso, MI, son-in-law James Mead,
brothers-in-law Jim and Teresa Mason, Tom and Cherie Mason, Raymond Mason, sisters-in-law;
Bonnie and Wilfred Lacker, Sharon and Gary Kingsbury, Julie and Chris Reynolds, Karen and
Howard Peoples, Carol and Don Stevenson and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by
her parents, daughter Marci Mead, granddaughter Amber Mason, parents-in-law Tyler and
Gladyas Mason, sister Virginia Luft, 2 brothers-in-law Vern Luft and Floyde Mason,
sister-in-law Margie Mason, and nephews Rod and John Luft. Memorials may be made to
Memorial Healthcare Hospice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie
Chapel.
Bernice A. Fenner
Bernice A. Fenner of Ovid, MI 88 died Monday, June 16, 2008
at her home. Bernice was born Feb. 2, 1920 in Curtisville, MI the daughter of Harry and
Edith (Heilig) Pierce. She married Stanley Fenner on April 19, 1939 in California. He died
May 11, 2000. For many years Bernice worked as a clerk at Murphys Store in Owosso.
Bernice was a member of the St. Johns Seventh Day Adventist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon and Larrie Fenner
Weir of Louisiana; 5 grandchildren; sisters, Florence Pierce and Esther Wilson of Mio, MI,
Frieda Henderson of St. Joseph, MI andDonna Mae Pappendick of Cedar Lake.
Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on
Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Olan Thomas and Pastor Willie Iwankin
officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ovid. The family will receive
friends and relatives at the funeral home Wednesday, June 18, 2008, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.
Dennis J. Luznak Sr.
Dennis J. Luznak Sr. age
52, of Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Bannister, Elsie and Owosso, died peacefully Wednesday,
June 11, 2008, at Atlanta's Grady Memorial Hospital due to congestive heart complications
during a routine pre-operative procedure.
Dennis was born June 24, 1955, at Clinton Memorial Hospital, St. Johns, the son of Michael
and Dorothy (Horton) Luznak. Dennis attended Bannister and Ovid/Elsie Area Schools, and
spent most of his life in his native stomping grounds. Throughout his life he worked for
MMPA in Ovid, Nero Plastics in Owosso, and the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
Dennis enjoyed working on the farm, free time in the garden and tinkering with
automobiles. He always appreciated the time that he spent with his family and was seldom
one without a smile on his face. Dennis had a keen sense of humor, a personality that made
him a compliment to any group and a strong love that he carried with him wherever he went.
Survivors include: his four sons, Dennis J. Luznak Jr. of Owosso, Brian Luznak of Elsie,
Chad Luznak of Lansing and Jason Luznak of Owosso; as well as his siblings, sisters, Nancy
(Tom) Hildner, Connie (Ed) Thornton, Carol (John) Whitaker; brother, Michael (Betty)
Luznak; half brother, Troy (Stacy) Luznak; half-sister, Tamra (Dan) Sherwood;
stepbrothers, Tony (Norm) Heimberger, Todd Heimberger; stepsister, Tracy (Tod) Ballinger;
stepmother, Ann Luznak. He was predeceased by his father Michael in 2007; his mother
Dorothy in 2001; as well as four grandparents.
A celebration of his life will be taking place at a later date. For information regarding
