Edward Thomas Schak
Edward Thomas Schak, age
93, of Ovid, MI, formerly of Erie, Pennsylvania died Saturday, July 19th, 2008 at Ashley
Care Center , Ashley, Michigan. Ed was born in Erie, PA on January 1, 1915, the son
Anthony Schak, Sr. and Frances (Bardun) Schak. He lived most of his life in Erie until
moving to Michigan to live with his niece Shirley Pontek for 1 year, and 6 months at the
Ashley Care Center.
He is survived by his niece Shirley Pontek of Ovid,
Michigan, Great niece Debbie and Dennis Heinze and sons Justin and Austin Heinze of
Gregory, Michigan. Great Nephew Joe Pontek Jr., and his son Kolby of Ovid, Michigan.
Ed was a Erie City Police officer of 27 years and a veteran
of WW2 serving in the Military Police. He was a member of Mount Calvary Catholic Church in
Erie, PA and also a member of the Erie Fraternal order of the police Lodge No #7. He
enjoyed hunting, biking and cross country skiing. He was predeceased by his parents,
brothers, Tony and Frank and a sister in law, Betty Schak.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at Mount Calvary Catholic
Church in Erie Pennsylvania on Monday July 21, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. There will be a
visitation 1 hr prior the services at the church. Burial will take place in Calvary
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Ashley Care Center, PO Box 127,
Ashley Michigan 48806 or an organization of your choice in his memory. The family is being
served by Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, Michigan.
Anna M. Paseka
Anna M. Paseka died July 17, 2008, at the age of 88. Born November 26, 1919 in Cleveland,
Ohio, the daughter of Josef and Catherine (Kosuth) Mitosinka. She was a member of St.
Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns and the ZCBJ Lodge in Bannister. Anna married Ralph
Paseka on June 29, 1940 in Bannister and he preceded her in death on September 5, 1987.
Surviving are daughters, Phyllis Rewerts of DeWitt and Evelyn Eisenhart of Dimondale,
sons, Tom Paseka of Bellaire, MI, Ed (Anna) Paseka of St. Johns and Don Paseka of
Springhill, FL, grandchildren, Chris (Sheila) Paseka, Stacy (Troy) Luznak, Sue (Jeff)
Gmazel, Michael (Dawn) Gerard, Jerald (Melissa) Klaahsen, Terry (Gina) Couzzins, Eric
Conklin, Deann (Sonny) Davis, Steven (Kelly) Hutra, Darla (Shane) Lyons, Dale Hutra and
Bill Hutra, nineteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. In addition to
her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph, Andy, Thomas and William
Mitosinka, sister, Mary Hutra and sons, Norman Rewerts, George Eisenhart and Rick Custer
and daughter, Emmie Hutra.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 21, 2008 at St. Joseph
Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Ken McDonald officiating. The
family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Saturday and Sunday at the Osgood Funeral Home with a vigil
service being prayed at 7 P.M. Sunday. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials
to Sparrow Stroke Unit, Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor or Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.
