Mildred M. Whitaker

whitaker_mildred.jpg (5621 bytes)Mildred M. Whitaker, age 97, of Elsie, MI died Wednesday, August 27th, 2008 at Ovid Healthcare Center , Ovid, Michigan. Funeral Services will be held at Elsie United Methodist Church on Friday, August 29th at 11:00 a.m., Pastor Ed Snook will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2 - 8 P. M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel, and 1 hour prior to the services at the Elsie United Methodist Church on Friday.

Mildred was born in Ashley, Michigan on July 18, 1911, the daughter of Roy Bradley and Isa R. (Whitaker) Peck. She graduated from Bannister High School with the class of 1929. She married Howard Whitaker on May 19, 1934 at the Rochester Colony Parsonage, Howard died on October 23, 1965.
Mildred was a homemaker, and resided most of her life in the Elsie area. She was a member of West Elsie Extension club, Elsie Literary Club, was a 4-H Leader and taught Sunday school at her church. 

She is survived by a daughter Joyce and Kent Shinaberry of St. Johns, Michigan, 2 sons Donald and Bertha Whitaker of Elsie, Michigan, Robert and Pat Whitaker of Holland, Michigan, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, 2 sisters Nellie and Clifford Flegel of Ithaca, Michigan, and Ruby Stewart of Bannister, Michigan, also several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, 1 sister, Grace and 5 brothers, Arlie, Clyde, Ray, Lee and Wayne.

Memorials may be made to Elsie United Methodist Church Elsie, Michigan. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, Michigan.

Teresa Marie Wilson

Teresa Marie Wilson passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at the age of 51. She was born March 14, 1957 in Lansing, the daughter of Edwin D. and Janice Rosalie (Richardson) Renkie. She graduated from Haslett High School and worked as a housekeeper at Burcham Hills Retirement Center. Her profound love of nature and animals was evidenced by her support of various organizations such as the Capital Area Humane Society, Greenpeace and PETA just to name a few. She married Jeff Wilson in July 1989 and he survives her.

She is also survived by her parents, her sisters, Lori (Pat) Leveque of St. Johns and Jackie Lynn (Roger) Argersinger of DeWitt, her brothers, Edwin L. (Betsy) Renkie of Alma and Mark (Cheryl) Renkie of St. Johns, 4 nieces and nephews, 2 great-nephews and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Thursday, August 28, 2008 at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service. Sympathies may be expressed in the form of contributions to the Capital Area Humane Society or the family.

William E. Cox

cox_william.jpg (3793 bytes)William E. Cox died Saturday, August 23, 2008 at the age of 80. He was born February 21, 1928 in Bannister, Michigan the son of Frank and Marguerite (Manross) Cox. He was a graduate of Ovid High School, an Army Veteran, and a member of Gunnisonville United Methodist Church. Bill retired in 1978 from Federal Mogul and in 1988 from the State of Michigan. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially fishing for brook trout. On April 6, 1946 he married Paula Crane and she survives him.

Also surviving is one daughter, Joette (Steven) Silverthorne of Greenville, MI, one son, Richard Cox of DeWitt; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns 989-224-4422 with Pastor Mark Johnson officiating. Interment will be 4:00 p.m. at Stilson Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 5303 S. Scott William Bashore

bashore_william.jpg (4039 bytes)Scott William Bashore, age 38, of Perrinton, MI, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, August 22, 2008. Scott was born in St. Johns, Michigan on May 6, 1970, he grew up in Bannister, Michigan and graduated from Ovid-Elsie High School with the class of 1988.

Scott was a hard worker who began working at an early age. He was employed by Federal Mogul from 1994 until 2007. After Federal Mogul closed, he worked at Schneider's Marina, doing work he loved to do, boat engine repair. He was also the family mechanic and all around good guy, whose smile, laughter and sense of humor will be sorely missed by his family and many, many friends.

Survivors include the love of his life, Linda Cumberworth of Perrinton; father and stepmother, William and Barb Bashore of St. Johns; his mother and stepdad, Alyce and Larry Howland of Elsie; his brother (and special pal) and sister-in-law, Todd and Michelle Bashore of Elsie; his beloved sister and brother-in-law, Tammy and Brian Forman of Grand Ledge; stepbrothers, Matt (Rebekah) Hetrick, Sean (Denice) Hetrick; a special nephew, Brandon Forman of Grand Ledge; three beautiful nieces, Alysin Forman, Haley and Mikayla Bashore; and nephew Gabe and niece Alexis Hetrick. Scott also has many aunts and uncles and cousins he was very close to. He is also survived by Linda Cumberworth's children Craig Cumberworth and Chassity (Shannon) Glinke and their children, Seth, Shane, and Brayden. Scott's passion in life was fishing, hunting, watching birds and making lots of friends. There are too many to list, but three special friends were Sam Boog of Elsie, Sherri Mulligan of Elsie and John Hartman of Brant. Scott was predeceased by his grandparents, Bill and Helen Evans, Galen and Lorene Bashore, and Linda Cumberworth's son Cory.

A memorial service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 25, 2008 Pastor Jerry Drummond will officiate and visitation will be on Sunday from 2-8 p.m. with family present 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice program in St. Johns. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel, Elsie, Michigan.
