Regina E. Thelen Regina E. Thelen went to
be with the Lord on September 30, 2008 at the age of 98. Mrs. Thelen worked for Fr. Miller
and Fr. Schmidtt for many years at the Catholic Diocese. Her favorite things in life were
spending time with her friends and family and quilting. Mrs. Thelen was preceded in death
by her husband, Virgil Thelen in 1963; 2 sisters, Catherine Stratz and Hilda Leik; and
brothers, Louis and Frank Pung.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and
friends.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 3, 2008 at
10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 201 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia with a
graveside service immediately following in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Westphalia. The
family will receive friends on Thursday, October 2 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Chapel at
St. Mary's with a Rosary being prayed at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Contributions may be made to
the Father Miller Trust Fund, St. Mary's Catholic Church, 201 N. Westphalia St.,
Westphalia, MI 48894, or Hospice of Lansing, 6035 Executive Dr., Ste 103, Lansing, MI
48911-5338, in memory of Mrs. Regina E. Thelen. The family would like to express their

Evelyn N. Hoyt age 79 of
St. Johns, MI passed away Monday, September 29, 2008 at Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor,
St. Johns, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Johns Chapel St. Johns, MI
on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 1:00 PM. Pastor Paul Daniels will officiate with burial at
Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Lansing, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 3,
2008 from 2-8 PM with the family present from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. at Smith Family Funeral
Homes, St Johns Chapel.
Evelyn was born in Memphis, Michigan on August 3, 1929, the daughter of Ellery and Gladys
(Hubbert) Boadway. She was a 1948 graduate of Spring Arbor High School, Spring Arbor, MI.
Evelyn married Harlow Hoyt on November 27, 1952 in Spring Arbor, MI. He passed away on
March 19, 1986. Evelyn resided most of her life in St. Johns and was a member of the First
Church of God, St. Johns. Evelyn worked as an Administrative Aide at the First Church of
God retiring in 1994. She loved flowers, especially gladiolas, crafts and enjoyed sewing.
Evelyn is survived by 3 sons; Kent Hoyt of West Virginia, Kevin and Cheryl Hoyt of St.
Johns, MI and Lonnie and Gene Hoyt of St. Johns, MI, 5 grandchildren, a
great-granddaughter and 2 sisters; Elaine and Merlin Goldsmith of Spring Arbor, MI and
Velma and James Smith of Spring Arbor, MI. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband
Harlow and brother Carl Boadway.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes St.
Johns Chapel St. Johns, Michigan.
Mary C. Bond
Mary C. Bond died September 26, 2008, at the age of 75 (36). Born in North Star on June 7,
1933, the daughter of Rudolph and Mary (Chaweanec) Masarik. She was a member of the
American Legion Auxiliary Post 16 Lapeer, and the 40 et 8, an avid bingo, poker and
euchre player she also enjoyed going to casinos and travelling. She married Wilbur Bond in
St. Johns on January 17, 1953 and he preceded her in death on April 5, 1994.
Surviving are her children, Tom Bond of Lapeer, William (Gloria) Bond of Holt, Ward
(Debra) Bond of Lapeer, Troy (Cathy) Bond of Colombiaville, Rayne (Mathew) Sommers of
Walton Hills, OH and Scott (Tamera) Bond of Lapeer, 10 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild,
brother, Rudolph W. (Florence) Masarik and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her
husband, she was preceded in death by her son Shawn Bond.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Monday, September 29, 2008 at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass
St., St. Johns with Rev. Fr. Ken McDonald officiating. The family will receive friends
from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M., Sunday at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form
of memorials to the American Cancer Society or the Lapeer County Medical Care Facility.
Arlene R. Thelen
Arlene R. Thelen died on Thursday, September 25,
2008. Arlene was born July 25, 1942 in Portland, Michigan to Hal and Lula (Brooks) Hendee.
She worked as a caregiver for many years and an avocation as a seamstress. Arlene was a
member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the VFW Auxiliary and Christian
Mothers. Arlenes greatest joys were baking and spending time with her
grandchildren. She married Jerome Thelen in Fowler, Michigan, on July 1, 1961 and he
survives her.
Also surviving are daughter, Germaine (Gregory) Petrick, grandchildren, Autumn Petrick,
Adyn Petrick and brother Robert (Barb) Hendee. She was preceded in death by her parents,
daughter, Colleen and son, Frankie. Arlene is also preceded by her sisters, Lenora Hendee
and Gayla Stafford and brothers, Fred Hendee, Ray Hendee, Wayne Hendee.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday September 29, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Most Holy
Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler with The Rev. Fr. Dennis Howard officiating, burial at
Most Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Goerge Chapel
of the Osgood Funeral Homes in
Fowler 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday with Rosaries at 3 and 8 p.m.
Saturday and 3 p.m Sunday with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Sunday. Sympathy may be
expressed in the form of memorials to a charity of the familys preference.
Dr. Eleanor Audrey Annis
Dr. Eleanor Audrey Annis died September 22, 2008, at
the age of 84. She was born in Maple Rapids, MI, March 21, 1924, the daughter of Harold
and Gladys (Kendrick) Annis. She graduated from Maple Rapids High School in 1942, received
a Bachelors Degree from Central Michigan University in 1945, a Master of Arts Degree
from Northern Colorado State University in 1949 and her doctorate from Penn State
University in 1961. Eleanor taught art in the Fenton and Kalamazoo Public Schools and
retired as Professor Emeritus in 1981 after 31 years at the University of Minnesota
Mankato, Mankato, MN.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Elsie Chapter #69, Northern Light
Chapter #292. Grand Marais, MN, served the Grand Chapter of Minnesota as a Grand
Representative of Michigan in Minnesota and as Grand Ruth in 2000. She was also a member
of the Maple Rapids United Methodist Church, Clinton County Historical Society, Cook
County MN Historical Society and several Art Education Societies.
She is survived by an aunt-in-law, Louise Annis, two nieces, Laura (DeWaine) Jackson of
Roseburg, OR, Linda (Gary) Marx of East Lansing, MI, a nephew, Ronald (Christy) Spess of
Saginaw, MI, cousin, David (Jann) Annis, great nieces, Elizabeth (Jesse) Archambault and
Christy Marx, great nephew, Chayse Jackson and newly arrived great niece, Sutton
Archambault. In addition to her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her sister,
Esther Annis Spess and an infant brother, Harold Kendrick Annis. Eleanor was a friend to
many and a loving aunt. She touched many lives and loved to share the North Shore of
Minnesota with others.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, September 29, 2008 at the Chapel of Deepdale
Memorial Gardens, Lansing, with Pastor Kathy Leydorf officiating. An Order of The Eastern
Star service will take place immediately following. There will be no visitation at the
funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Minnesota State
University, Mankato Foundation in memory of Jean Goodenow and sent to: Minnesota State
University, Mankato Foundation Development Office, 126 Alumni Foundation Center, Mankato,

Lucille Ellen Cerny, age
78, of Elsie, MI passed away Wednesday, September 24th, 2008 at Hazel I. Findlay Country
Manor , St. Johns, Michigan, Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes
Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on Friday, September 26th at 11:00 A.M., Pastor Edwin Snook will
officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday 5 - 8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes,
Elsie Chapel. Burial will take place at Eureka Cemetery, Eureka, Michigan.
Lucille was born in Lansing, Michigan on January 14, 1930,
the daughter Charles Loren and Alice Janette (Wright) Rings. She was a member of the VFW
Post 1735 Mark Daniels Post, Perrinton, Michigan. She worked as a factory worker at the
Ashley Plant, and was a homemaker who enjoyed reading, playing bingo, cards, and playing
the Lotto. She especially enjoyed Conway Twitty music.
She is survived by 3 daughters Mari and Tom Pontack of
Elsie, Sandra and Pat Flanner of Ovid, Connie and David Nash of Ionia, 3 sons John and
Bonnie Chubb of Nashville, TN, Daniel Chubb of Elsie, Charles Cerny of Bannister, the
children's father John Cerny of Alma, 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. She was
predeceased by parents, 3 children, 3 sisters and 2 brothers. The family request donations
to Elsie United Methodist Church or Clinton County Humane Society. The family is being
served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
