Gloria Tait LaBarge

labarge_gloria.jpg (7767 bytes)Gloria Tait LaBarge, born Gloria Harriet Tait, in Wayne, MI on February 27, 1937 to Joy Tait and Opal Baker Tait. She was eldest of 6: Shirley Buehler, Nancy Duvall, Mory, Keith and Max Tait. Growing up on a farm, she was active in 4-H, Junior Farm Bureau and her church youth group. She grew sugar beets (she was Junior Sugar Beet Queen of Michigan in 1950) and raised Hereford cattle (which paid for college). At a 4-H dance, she met and married Ivan Lappin, father of her 4 children. They moved to Chicago, where her children spent most of their youth. Divorcing after 20 years, she refurbished their Victorian house and redefined her life goals. While singing with Chicago's Grant Park Chorus, she met and married Richard LaBarge, with whom she shared 10 years. They moved to San Diego, CA in 1979.

Gloria trained and worked within the sales, personal communication and healing fields, and developed wonderful lasting relationships. Gloria developed a spiritual philosophy of "positive thinking," "right action" and "Universal Abundance," which shaped her relationship to the Divine, her thinking and her actions for the rest of her life. During the past 15 years, she spent half living with her daughter, Kathy, in San Diego, and half with her son, Scott, in Florida. These years were filled with many things she loved.

She traveled to St. Johns, MI, in 2005 for her 50th High School reunion. She attended the births of several of her grandchildren, rediscovered her love of singing and ballroom dance, had great parties, read great books and engaged in precious "girlfriend" time. She always worked to improve herself. and was always ready for a new experience, a new challenge or a new opportunity to spread her wings and expand. Not only did she want to do more, but she knew that God was not done with her yet. In our hearts, she will certainly live on for many years to come.

She passed on July 30, 2008 in San Diego due to complications from Mesothelioma. She is survived by her children, Scott Lappin, Kathy Episcopo, Dan Lappin and Brad Lappin; her 6 grandchildren, Wesley, Parker, Erica, Hunter, Tanner and Cooper; and her 5 brothers and sisters. In her honor, a private rose garden is being created in San Diego.
