Charles D. Baird

baird_charles.jpg (5240 bytes)Charles D. Baird, age 86, died October 13, 2008. Born in Lansing November 23, 1921 the son of Charles O. and Antoinette (Rood) Baird and was a retired machine operator for Federal Mogul. He was a lifetime member of the D.A.V. and the American Legion. Charles married Elaine Baird November 14, 1942 and she preceded him in death February 3, 1991. He married Dorothy Carpenter March 4, 1992 in Minnesota and she survives him.

Also surviving are one son, Michael (Lois) Baird of Carson City, two daughters, Carolyn (Michael) Sadler of St. Johns and Jacquelyn (John) Marshall of Eagle, step daughter, Sue (Fred) Grassin of New Port Richey, FL, step sons, Ted (Gail) Carpenter and Jerry (Jan) Carpenter, six grandsons and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by step son Calvin Carpenter, great granddaughter, Cassie Baird, brother, Richard Baird and half sister, Minnie Jones.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial in East Plains Cemetery with Rev. Justin Sheperd officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 Friday at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to Longville Community Church, 194 School Lane, Longville, MN 56655.

Charles L. Faivor

faivor_charles.jpg (4774 bytes)Charles L. Faivor died October 14, 2008, at the age of 85. He was born in DeWitt, Michigan on November 7, 1922, the son of Louis and Rose Anne (Heiler) Favier. He was a farmer, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 3281 and was formerly the Olive Township treasurer for 32 years. Charlie enjoyed farming, gardening and sharing his efforts with his family and friends. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s many sporting events, playing cards with friends and visiting the casino. Charlie married Annabelle Dreves in Greenville on July 31, 1954 and she preceded him in death on October 5, 2004.

Surviving are his children, Chuck (Robi) Faivor, Ed (Linda) Faivor, all of St. Johns, Frank Faivor of Howell, Gerilynn (Bobby) Hunter, Peg (Mark) Manning, Annette (Chris) Russell, all of St. Johns and Dennis (Tina) Faivor of Anderson, IN; grandchildren, Louis Faivor, Clayton (Jean) Faivor, Laura Faivor, Erin Faivor, Rob Hunter, Meagan Hunter, Erica Manning, Keith Manning, Charley Marie Russell, Lance Faivor, Taylor Faivor and Leigha Faivor. Also surviving is his sister, Rita Cuthbert and brother, Leon Miller. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by parents, his step-father, Ferdinand Miller and brothers, John Faivor, Tom Faivor and Joey Miller.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 17, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Thursday at the Osgood Funeral Home with a prayer vigil at 7 P.M. Thursday, October 16th at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to Great Lakes Hospice or St. Vincent DePaul of St. Johns.

Donald J. Graff

graff_donald.jpg (5395 bytes)Donald J. Graff died October 9, 2008, at the age of 76. He was born in Fowler on July 3, 1932, the son of Paul and Elsa (Falk) Graff. He was a retired farmer, a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, enjoyed Indy cars and played softball for Miller’s Tavern. Donald married Marie Lause in Fowler on August 19, 1977.

Surviving is his wife, Marie (Schafer) Graff, his children, Ronald J. (Heidi) Schafer of Portland and Sarah M. Schafer (Cary Scheuher) of South Lyon, grandchildren, Caitlin and Collin Scheuher, brother, Paul Graff of St. Johns, sisters, Elizabeth Sawall of Kansas and Eunice (Alan) Steffe of Grand Blanc, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Amelia (Fischer) Graff.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 13, 2008 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 329 N. Sorrell, Fowler, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Pastor Paul Clark officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Saturday and Sunday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, 11112 W. Ionia, Fowler. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to Visiting Nurse Services of Michigan or St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Francis C. Smith

Francis C. Smith died October 8, 2008, at the age of 57. He was born in St. Johns on June 14, 1951, the son of Francis and Virginia (Rice) Smith. He was a former State Journal employee and a veteran of the U.S. Marines.

Graveside services will be held 1:30 P.M. Monday, October 13, 2008 at Mt. Rest Cemetery. Arrangements by Osgood Funeral Home.

Earl E. Dobberstein

He was born in New Effington, South Dakota on January 25, 1933, the son of Ellsworth and Annie Dobberstein. He was a farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Earl married Ruth Schultz in Minnesota on July 2, 1953 and she preceded him in death on June 10, 1989.

Surviving are his daughters, Cindy (Joseph) Miller and Glenna Miller, all of St. Johns, son, Dale Dobberstein of Lansing, grandchildren, Luke Miller, Steven (Mandy) Miller, James Miller and Chad (April) Miller and great grandchildren, Landon, Raelyn and Amber Miller. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Clyde Dobberstein and grandson, Baby Miller.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 11, 2008 at the Osgood Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Ezop officiating. The family will receive friends 9-11 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Lansing. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of contributions to the charity of the family’s choice.

Gloria Christine Keck

keck_gloria.jpg (4513 bytes)Gloria Christine Keck, age 58 of Ashley, MI died Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Jon Poll will officiate. Burial will take place at North Star Cemetery North Star, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2008 from 6-8 PM and Friday, October 10, 2008 from 2-8 p.m. with family present 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

Gloria was born in St. Johns, Michigan on March 16, 1950, the daughter of John and Lillian (Wilkinson) McLennan. She graduated from Ashley Community Schools with the class of 1968. On November 29, 1969 she married Roger Keck at Edgewood Church of God in Ithaca. She resided most of her life in the Ashley area and was a member of 1968 girls club and AAUP. Gloria enjoyed vacations with family especially at the cottage. Gloria also enjoyed gardening, decorating and raising her 2 beautiful children and spoiling the grandchildren.

In addition to being the bookkeeper for most of her family she was an account assistant for SLR Management for 15 years and executive administrative assistant at Greenstone Farm Credit Services. She also worked as secretary to the superintendent for 4 years at Ashley Community Schools.

She is survived by her husband Roger, daughter Jennifer and Cory Gavenda of Ashley, MI, son Jason and Mindy Keck of Bannister, MI, grandchildren Maddie and Ryan Gavenda, and her future granddaughter. Also, sister Phyllis and Daryl Smith of Ithaca, brothers; James and Josephine McLennan of Bannister, Richard and Lori McLennan of Ithaca, sisters-in-law Connie and Sam Sopocy of Bannister, Cathie Heck of Ashley, Carla Cooper of Ashley, Janet McLennan of St. Johns, brother-in-law Robert and Kay Keck of Manistee, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Bob and Jack, father-in-law Charles Keck Jr. and mother-in-law Irene Keck.

Leta Marie Gleason

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on Friday, October 10, 2008 at 11:00am. Pastor Lonnie Severance will officiate with burial at Middlebury Township Cemetery Shiawassee, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2008 from 2-8 PM with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI.

Leta was born in Middlebury Township, Michigan on June 5, 1921, the daughter of Milo and Iva (Hanes) Goodrich. She graduated from Ovid High School with the class of 1938. Leta married Arza Parker in 1939 in Angola, Indiana he died in 1970. In 1974 she married Chandler Gleason and he died 1997. She resided most of her life in Shepardsville, Michigan moving to Prudenville about 3 years ago. Leta worked at Sheldon Packing House. She enjoyed going to the senior citizens group, and she walked the Relay for Life at Houghton Lake at the age of 85. She enjoyed shopping, and she was a member of Shepardsville United Methodist Church.

She is survived by 3 daughters; Joan and Darlton Brown of Henderson, MI, Janet and Herman Visger of Prudenville, MI, Jane Wilson of Lake City, MI, 3 sons; Robert and Susanne Williams Parker of Elsie, MI, Brian and Peggy Parker of Lansing, MI, Bradford Wells and Marcia Parker of Grant, MI, 3 step daughters; Gwen and Jerry Denny of Empire, MI, Edith and Robert Frye of Elsie, MI, Virginia and Robert Radamacher of Hubbardston, MI, step son Rollo Gleason of Ovid, MI, 27 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, 2 husbands, 1 grandson, 1 granddaughter, 2 sisters and 6 brothers.
