Mildred C. "Millie" Scranton died
Monday, January 12, 2009, at the age of 93. She was born in Tittabawassee Township in
Saginaw County, Michigan on January 4, 1916, the daughter of Jay and Helena (Forster)
Hemingway. She lived in Baldwin, Michigan before moving to St. Johns in 1998. Millie was a
member of the St. Johns Lutheran Church and a former member of Grace Lutheran Church in
Baldwin. She married Harry Scranton July 2, 1939 and he preceded her in death February 22,
1998.
Millie is survived by two sons, Terry (Linda) Scranton of Rogers City and Jon (Lois)
Scranton of St. Johns; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a sister-in-law,
Gloria Hemingway of Saginaw. In addition to her husband, Millie was preceded in death by
two sisters, Winifred Hemingway and Virginia Foss and two brothers, Clinton and James
Hemingway.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be at St. Johns Lutheran Church
11:00 a.m., Monday, January 19, 2009 with Rev. George Brinley officiating. Memorials may
be made to St. Johns Senior Center or Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor. Arrangements by the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. Daniel Lee Sabo
Daniel Lee Sabo, age 54, of
Ovid, MI died Saturday, January 10, 2009 at his home.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on
Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. Visitation will be on Saturday from 11:00 A.M
until time of services at the funeral home.
Daniel was born in Owosso, Michigan on October 3, 1954, the son Stephen and Anna (Vanmeer)
Sabo. He attended and graduated from Chesaning High School with the class of 1972, and
resided most of his life in the Ovid area. He worked for Leer Corporation until their
closing of the Elsie Plant, then began attending Jackson Community College and graduated
with honors in computer technology. Daniel loved dogs, working outside and spending time
with his grandchildren.
He is survived by 2 daughters; Angela and Jason Kellogg of Owosso, MI, Roxanne Sabo of
Saginaw, MI, 5 grandchildren; Jeremy, Alexander, Kaleb, Virginia, Sadie Sue, sister Susan
Anderson, 2 brothers; Stephen Sabo Jr., Dennis and Carol Sabo, his children's mother Paula
Gall. He was also survived by many friends, including Dorothy Nixon and Rick and Michelle
LaLonde. He was predeceased by his parents and grandson, Dustin.
Memorials may be made to Charity of the Donor's Choice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes Chapel
Elsie, Michigan.
Patsy M. Chapman
Patsy M. Chapman, 69, died January 9, 2009. Patsy was
born May 4, 1939 in Ashley, Michigan, the daughter of Ernest Sr. and Esther (Parcher)
Griffin. She married Oliver "Flitter" Chapman, May 5, 1960 in St. Johns,
Michigan and he survives her.
Also surviving are her sons, Michael, James and Anthony; her sisters, Lillie Chapman,
Laura Kay (Wes) Carter and Goldie (Ted) Brey. Also surviving Patsy is her brother, Jerald
Griffin, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousin, Gardner and good
friend Steve McCurry. Patsy was preceded in death by her sisters, Viola Camp, Pauline
Garrett and Ruth Rose; brothers, Junior, Dave, Clyde and Roy and two sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be at 1 pm Wednesday, January 14 at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 E. Oak
St. Ovid, Michigan, with burial following the service at the Middlebury Cemetery. Her
family will receive friends 11 am to 1 pm prior to the funeral service on Wednesday at the
funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorial contributions to the Grove
