Who cares if it's hot?

It's hot in Clinton County - but I'm not complaining.

At least not too much.

This past week when the temperature soared past 90 degrees - and the humidity wilted people, plants, and animals - I forced myself to think back to last December and January.

It was no fun at all shoveling snow every morning from the house to the car parked 30 feet away.

Any rational human being would have purchased a snowblower, I suppose.

Even a high-powered machine could not have kept up with the blowing and drifting that takes place out here in Riley, though.

So let the sun shine and heat index rise - at least there's no white stuff on the ground.

And the air conditioning works just fine when I hop into the car.

Speaking of modern conveniences - like regulated interior cooling devices - the advent of summer's heat also marks the start of the annual war between the front and back ends of the CCN office.

It's not an easy fight - when the battle involves the guy who signs the pay check.

Those of us who are shivering at the rear end of the building (and even Elaine, Colleen, and Liz who work up front) have pretty much resolved ourselves to bundling up in sweaters for the duration of the summer season.

Some like it hot - Pres does not - that's a fact at the News, and he's the boss.

Even if it is rather warm, here's hoping you all get out and enjoy July 4th events at various sites around the area this week.

My personal plea is for good attendance at the St. Johns Rotary Club carnival and fireworks - your support not only helps pay for the 'big boomers,' but helps our Club in turn provide monetary assistance to a wide range of community groups throughout the year - Big Brothers/Big Sisters, RAVE, the Baby Pantry, numerous youth groups, and a host of other agencies and endeavors gain assistance from your support of Rotary's July 4th events.

Thanks in advance for helping us help others.

Of course, there's 24 hours in the day July 4 - plenty of time to enjoy the many events in Westphalia at the annual St. Mary's Parish Festival, or take part in the football game at Shepardsville.

Whatever you do, have a safe and happy holiday - and don’t complain about the heat.

Remember - there's no snow.
