Pocuis memorial service is Oct. 2

pocuis_bennie.jpg (4464 bytes)The many, many friends and acquaintances of B. Stanley Pocuis will gather with family members Oct. 2 at a Memorial Service to remember the gentleman who had such a positive influence on their lives.

The Rev. Margery Schleicher will officiate at the service that begins at 11:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in St. Johns with cremains buried at North Plains Cemetery in Muir. Memorials may be made to St. Johns High School Scholarship Fund, 105 W. Sickles St., St. Johns, MI 48879.

Mr. Pocuis, 90, of Bradenton, Fla., died Aug. 4, 2004. He was born in Chicago,
Ill., Aug. 14, 1913.

He taught science and math at Jonesville High School in Jonesville, Mich., from 1938-1940. He moved to St. Johns in 1940 and taught physics, chemistry, and math at Rodney B. Wilson High School and during the war years, taught radio theory and aeronautics to pre-inductive students.

In 1946, he became principal of Rodney B. Wilson High School, a position he held for 23 years. In 1969, he became superintendent of the Clinton County Intermediate School District. He retired from education in 1975. The Pocuis Auditorium at St. Johns High School is named in his honor.

Mr. Pocuis was married June 15, 1940, to Mildred Moldenhauer. His beloved Millie preceded him in death Oct. 6, 2002.

He is survived by one daughter, Susan Kay Calva of Alhambra, Calif., and one
son, Dr. D. Leo Pocuis of Bremerton, Wash.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Lynne Pocuis.
