Rafael Soliz Jr was born in Owosso. He graduated from High School in 2006. Rafael started band in the tenth grade. He is currently attending college.
His hobbies include writing and playing music, playing video games and organizing and filing papers. Rafael attended Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in the summer of 2005 and says that it was an amazing experience.
In fall of 2006 and spring of 2007 he rehearsed and performed with the Lansing Concert Band as part of the LCC music curriculum. At that time he met Frank Ticheli which was the highlight of his Lansing Concert Band experience. Meeting his former music director was great because he became more of a fellow musician than just a teacher. Rafael says that it was very challenging and very rewarding.
What does Rafael like best about the St. Johns Community band?
“It’s a great way to blow off stress in a positive way and meet with a group of people all united towards the same purpose,” he says. “It’s nice to be a team player and being part of something special.”
