Board solicits input at Feb. 4 meetings
The Michigan Leadership Institute (MLI) was recently selected to conduct a superintendent search for St. Johns Public Schools.
As a part of this process, Dr. Jann Jencka of MLI is facilitating a series of meetings on Feb. 4 that offer an opportunity for all district residents to provide input on the qualifications, characteristics and skills they perceive are important for the position of superintendent.
Business and community leaders are invited to participate in a session that begins at noon in the board room at the Wilson Center, 101 Cass St., St. Johns. Lunch will be provided. Parents and community members are invited to attend a session at 7 p.m., that will also be held in the Wilson Center board room.
Both sessions will last one hour.
Sessions for school staff are scheduled as follows:
11:15 a.m.: District administrators
12 p.m.: Business and community leaders
1 p.m.: Building administrators
2 p.m.: Students
3 p.m.: School union leaders
3:45 p.m.: General session, open to anyone who is employed at SJPS
4:30 p.m.: Teachers
5:30 p.m.: Support staff
7:00 p.m.: Parents and community members
All sessions will be held at the Wilson Center, with the exception of the student session; Dr. Jencka will meet with students in room A-5 at St. Johns High School. School personnel who are unable to attend the time scheduled for their group may attend another session.
Questionnaires are also available for individuals who are unable to attend the Feb. 4 meetings but would like to offer input. To obtain a questionnaire call Mark McKeown at SJPS district office, (989) 227-4002. Completed questionnaires may be submitted to Dr. Jencka.
Applications for the position of superintendent are being accepted through Feb. 16. Initial interviews are scheduled for March 10-12. All interviews will be conducted during public meetings of the St. Johns Board of Education.
“The board of education values the input of all district residents and school staff,” says St. Johns School Board president Bill Tennant. “We hope individuals will be able to attend the Feb. 4 meeting with Dr. Jencka to share their thoughts and ideas as we begin the superintendent search process.”
For questions on the Feb. 4 meetings, call McKeown, (989) 227-4002.
