Avid bowlers from across Michigan recently gathered at Nic’s in Ovid for a very special fund-raising event – the second annual St. Johns Kiwanis 707 Aktion Club Bowl-a-Thon.
More than 80 bowlers and Aktion Club leaders from Charlevoix, Mason, Holt, Owosso, Monroe and St. Johns hit the lanes for an afternoon of fun. Bowlers fueled up with a pizza party before showing off their skills.
Each participating club received a certificate of recognition. Shiawassee-Owosso Aktion Club members earned special honors from their peers for raising the most dollars in support of the cause. Each member contributed $15 and the club raised an addition $240 for the event. Shiawassee-Owosso Aktion Club members were awarded star pins to commemorate their outstanding donation.
Aktion Club members raised more than $1,300 to benefit the International Kiwanis Club’s Sleeping Children Around the World bed kit project. Thanks to event sponsorship by Clinton Memorial Hospital and St. Johns Kiwanis Club as well as matching funds from Kiwanis International, Michigan clubs were able to donate 70 bed kits for children in need.
Aktion Club members are young and mature adults with disabilities. The St. Johns Aktion Club is supported by St. Johns Kiwanis 707 in cooperation with Transitions in downtown St. Johns, a Community Mental Health affiliate.
