When economic times get tough, non-profits have to work a little harder. And that is the situation in which the fundraising committee of the Clinton County Senior Center finds themselves.
In retrospect the last couple of years have been extremely good for the Senior Center. They raised over $150,000 to renovate an old building. Their membership numbers have quadrupled, and they are providing more services than ever to older individuals in our community. That has meant numerous dinners, bake sales and other fundraisers and has taken a lot of volunteer hours, sweat and a few tears. Their hope is to someday get to the point of having a little extra money in the bank; so if they had to skip one bake sale, it would not be the end of things.
Unfortunately the Center has been hit hard with news in the last few months that make it a little more difficult to keep their spirits up. First they found that the furnaces in the building need to be replaced which will be about $45,000; and then they discovered they will not be receiving any United Way grant funding because United Way does not feel they meet a critical need.
There are so many ways the community can help. These range from buying goodies at their bake sales to making an outright financial contribution. Of course the center always accepts financial contributions, in-kind contributions of specific items that are needed for programs and activities and is always looking for new people to help with bake sales or their fundraising Monday lunches.

Another way is to purchase a tile for $25 that will be put up on the wall at the Center. If you would be interested in purchasing a tile, send your $25 to the center at PO Box 282, St Johns 48879 and include a note of what you want painted on your tile and whether you want your name (or names) included.
Contact their fundraising chair Brenda Terpening at 989-224-7248 if you would like to talk about how you can help.
