Eight St. Johns Firemen were presented with awards at Monday’s City Commission Meeting. Mayor Dana Beaman and Public Safety Director Michael Madden made the presentations.
“Never in the 150 year history of the Department has there been this level of knowledge and expertise,” said Director Madden. He continued, “For eight individuals to donate almost a 180 hours each for the betterment of the community is a very honorable gift. I would like to give a Special thanks to their families who supported this task.
“Rather than send a group of firefighters out-of-town for extended periods of time and leaving the community at risk, we brought the instructors to St. Johns. We were able to secure the services of two highly qualified Professors of Fire Science, Dr. Jeffery Huber and retired Fire Chief John Baker.”
The course study included Methodology, Strategy in Tactics, National Incident Management, in addition to Company Officer 1 and 2.
Fire Fighters from Dallas Township (Fowler), Perrinton, Maple Rapids, Hubbardston, Meridian Township, Mason, Saginaw and Looking Glass Fire Departments also attended some of the classes.
The following Firefighters from St. Johns were honored:
Lieutenant John Kochensparger, Captain Dean Mazzolini, Firefighter Mark Wineland, Firefighter Mike Munger, Firefighter Chad Moinet, Firefighter Jody Snater, Firefighter Matt Chapko, Firefighter Mike Bisalski
