Gerald Thelen
Gerald V. Thelen died April 14, 2009 at the age of 88. Born December 23, 1920 in Fowler, MI the son of Arnold and Irma (Bauer) Thelen. He was a faithful member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the 4th Degree and a proud member of the Farm Bureau. He married his loving wife of 64 years, Odelia Fedewa on June 7, 1944 and she preceded him in death on April 12, 2008.
Gerald is survived by his daughter, Gerrie (John) Dixon, three sons, Bill (Laurie) Thelen, George (Linda Hart) Thelen, Fr. Fred Thelen and daughter-in-law, Pat Thelen. Gerald is also survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer Thelen, Alana Thelen, Paul Thelen, Gina Dixon and Amber Dixon; many foster children over the years, including foster daughter, Kathy Miller and her family, sisters, Verena (Dahl) Deboer, Ambra (Richard) Hansen and brother, Clair (Margaret) Thelen. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Lester Thelen.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 17, 2009 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler, burial at Holy Trinity Cemetery with Fr. Fred Thelen, Fr. Dennis Howard, Fr. Sylvester Fedewa and Fr. Matthew Fedewa officiating. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m., Wednesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home, with Rosary Services at 8 p.m. on Wednesday and 3 p.m. on Thursday and a Vigil Service at 8 p.m. on Thursday. James E. Tiedt
James E. Tiedt died Sunday, April 12, 2009 at the age of 39. He was born August 5, 1969 in St. Johns, Michigan the son of Allen and Cynthia (Weed) Tiedt. Jim was a self employed auto body repairman.
Surviving are his parents Allen and Cynthia Tiedt of St. Johns; two brothers, Craig of St. Johns and Scott of Fairview, TX.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns. Memorials may be made to Volunteers of America or D.A.R.E.
Joseph J. Beno, Sr.
Joseph J. Beno, Sr., our dear father and grandfather left this world on Sunday, April 12, 2009 at the honorable age of 92. He will be greatly missed by his family. Joe was born on January 11, 1917 in Ashley, Michigan, the son of Frank and Teresa (Rice) Beno. The family moved to Snover, Michigan, where he lived his young life. He married Anna Fabus on May 22, 1943. She preceded him in death on November 2, 1992. Joe lived at his homestead since 1948. He was a Navy Veteran of WW II. He was a factory worker as a tool and die maker and a farmer. He was a member of St. Cyril Catholic Church and the First Catholic Slovak Union. He loved polka dancing, watching WWE wrestling, fishing, hunting and was a member of the American Legion Post #502. He was predeceased by his parents and all of his eleven brothers and sisters and his very special companion and friend, Marie Schreiner.
He is survived by his four children, Janet Beno of Haslett, David (Kathy) Beno of Ovid, Fred Beno and Patricia Stover of Bannister and Joe Beno, Jr., of Elsie. Also, his three grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kessey, and Michael Beno, and Kyler Carroll, a special friend of the family.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 16, 2009 at St. Cyril Catholic Church in Bannister, burial at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie with the Rev. Fr. Wolfgang Streichardt officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, with a rosary at 7 p.m., at the Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral Home, 232 E. Oak St., Ovid. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of contributions to W.O.E.S. or St. Cyril Catholic Church.
Robert J. Platte
Robert J. Platte, age 71, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 10, 2009. He was born on September 24, 1937 in Westphalia the son of Robert and Adeline (Bohr) Platte. Bob farmed his entire life in Westphalia where he loved to fish at the pond, golf, and play cards. What he loved to do most was spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Westphalia Knights of Columbus St. Jude Thaddeus Council, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Paul Platte.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Beverly (Meitler); children, David Platte of Grand Rapids, Pamela (William) Kavanagh of Portland, and John Platte of Westphalia; 5 grandchildren, Ashley, Robert, Brandon, Brent, and Chelsea; 5 siblings, Arlene Koster of Grand Ledge, Evelyn (Louis) Hengesbach of Westphalia, Mary Ellen (Elvan) Pohl of Westphalia, Gladys (Robert) Bengel of Westphalia, and Diane (Bill) Thelen of Pewamo; several nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rite of Committal following at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the St. Mary Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia from 7-9 p.m. Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Rosaries will be prayed at 8 p.m. Monday and 3 and 8 p.m. Tuesday. Arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.
Robert Gilroy
Robert N. Gilroy died April 9, 2009 at the age of 84. Born in Sault Ste. Marie on February 10, 1925, he was the son of Nelson and Ida Gilroy. Bob was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns, the Ushers Club, Knights of Columbus and a Navy veteran of WWII. He retired from the Engineering Dept. of Oldsmobile in 1979 after 31 years of service. Robert married Catherine Charles on June 3, 1947 and she preceded him in death on February 21, 1970.
Bob is survived by his wife, Phyllis whom he married in St. Johns on April 14, 1972. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Robert (Deb) Gilroy of Lansing and Todd (Jeanie) Gilroy of St. Johns; daughters, Linda (Tom) Wright and Sherry (Terry) Sehlke, all of St. Johns; step-son, James (Jodi) Bappert of Grand Blanc; step-daughters, Sharon (Jack) Woodhams and Teresa (Tom) Villarreal, all of St. Johns, Kathryn (Ron) Shepard of Swartz Creek and Linda (Dan) Blair of Dimondale, 25 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; brother, Cecil Gilroy of Lansing. Bob was preceded in death by a son, Dean Gilroy; sisters, Gladys Flynn, Martha and Ellen Wilson, and brothers, Reginald, Russell, Clarence, Paul, Willard and Edward Gilroy.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM Monday, April 13, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns with burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery immediately following. The Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends from 3-5 and 6-8 PM Saturday and 6-8 PM Sunday at Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns. A Vigil Service will be held at 7 PM Sunday. Florence Koenigsknecht
Florence M. Koenigsknecht passed away April 8, 2009 at the age of 89, in St. Johns, Michigan. Florence was born on January 11, 1920 in Pewamo, Michigan, the daughter of Anthony and Mary (Klein) Miller. She was a member of Most Holy Trinity Parish as well as Christian Mothers and Daughters of Isabella. On April 29, 1946 Florence married Raymond Koenigsknecht in Pewamo and he preceded her in death on July 21, 2002.
Surviving her is her daughters Leone (Mark) Hufnagel, Agnes and Rita Koenigsknecht and Rose (Paul) Todd; sons, Marvin (Carolyn), Raymond, Norm (Karyn) and Albert (Shari) Koenigsknecht. Florence is also survived by 18 Grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, her sister, Sarah Kowatch and many neices and nephews. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughters, Lucille Koenigsknecht and Lucy Higgs; son, Leon and grandson, Eric Koenigsknecht. She was also preceded by her sister, Laura Koenigsknecht and brothers, Reynold and Leonard Miller.
Funeral Mass will be held at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler Monday, April 13, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., burial at Holy Trinity Cemetery with The Rev. Fr. Dennis Howard officiating. Family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes on Sunday with rosaries prayed at 3 and 8 pm. Harold Martin
Harold E. Martin died April 8, 2009 at the age of 86. Born April 6, 1923 in Westphalia, MI he was the son of Oscar and Philomena (Schafer) Martin and live most of his life in the Fowler and Perrinton areas. He was a member of St. Martin DePorres Catholic Church, a WWII veteran and a member of the VFW Post #3733. On June 16, 1956 he married Frances J. Lengo and she preceded him in death.
Surviving are two sisters, Mary Louise (Gerald) Rhynard of St. Johns, and Marcella Genesterblum of Fowler, and several nieces and nephews. Harold was also preceded in death by two brothers, Urban and Elmer Martin.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler with burial at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery, the Rev. Fr. Dennis Howard officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Monday, April 13, 2009 at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes in Fowler with a Rosary Service at 3 PM and Vigil Service at 8 PM. Memorials may be made to Great Lakes Hospice, 103 S. Jackson St., Jackson, MI 49201.
