Bob Shinn is at the controls of the huge Sizing Mill in the west end of the shop. This rolling mill allowed the St. Johns plant to order a smaller range of steel sizes so we could roll any size in between ourselves, and save costs.
The Sizing Mill caused a problem when it came in because of the wage base management assigned to it. Skilled Tradesmen were upset that the guys running this machine would be making almost as much money as they did.
The end result of this was the 1979 UAW strike against Federal-Mogul.
Bob worked in the Press Room prior to this job.
