Jack Mudget
Jackie Dean “Jack” Mudget, age 49, of Greenville, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2009, at home under the loving care of his family and Faith Hospice. The son of Gerald and Mable (Groves) Mudget, he was born on July 28, 1959 in St.Johns. On April 5, 1990, in St. Johns, he married the former Elizabeth Lloydeen Daniels. Jack was self-employed as a drywall contractor and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his father.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth “Betsy” Mudget of Greenville; nine children, Melissa Mudget of Greenville, Laura and Derrick Dennis of Gowen, Jack Jr. and Amanda Mudget of Belding, Christina “Chrisse” and Josh Willemstein of Stanton, Matthew Mudget, and his fiancée Laura Bear, of Gowen, Matthew Scott Hoskins, Robert “Bobby” Mudget, Travis Mudget, and Baily Mudget, all of Greenville; fourteen grandchildren; his mother, Mable Mudgett of DeWitt; two brothers, Gerald Jr. “Jerry” and Rita Mudget of Monroe, and Ernest Mudget of Oregon; a sister, Sue Mudget, also of Oregon; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at Beth Haven Baptist Church, east of Greenville on M-57, with Mr. Bob Snyder officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Home Cemetery, Greenville. Visitation is on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. ay the Brown-Teman and Christiansen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Greenville, where envelopes for memorial contributions are available.
Deanna Piggott
Deanna Piggott, age 60, of Fowler, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Piggott was born April 10, 1949 in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of Walter and Beulah (Bishop) Dick.
Mrs. Piggott was a devoted wife to her husband, Daniel, of 40 years. They were married on August 23,1968, in St. Johns and shared their lives together in Fowler. She cherished her family and was a loving mother to her four children and proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren.
Her love of people and compassionate heart were traits that came easily and made her a joy to be around. She truly lived the saying, “there are no strangers here, only friends we have not yet met.” You could always count on Deanna for a funny story or a compassionate shoulder to lean on. She touched the lives of many and her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Deanna is survived by her husband, Daniel; daughter, Michelle (Curt) Myers of Potterville; sons, Scott (Donna) Piggott of Fowler, Michael (Laurie) Piggott of Fowler, and Brian (Emily) Piggott of Lansing; grandchildren, Danielle, Rachel, Kaitlin, Tyler, Tony, Andrea, Makayla, Andrew, Jacob, Grace, and Ryan; brothers, Walter Dick of Beaverton and Fred (Mary) Dick of Merritt; sister, Mary (Elias) Estrada of Lansing; and mother-in-law, Marie Piggott. Mrs. Piggott was preceded in death by her father and mother, Walter and Beulah; and father-in-law Vernon Piggott.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 19 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler with burial following at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. The Mass will be officiated by Rev. Fr. Dennis Howard. The family will receive friends at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes at 11112 W. Ionia St. in Fowler, 6-9 p.m., Wednesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Thursday with a rosary at 8 p.m. on Wednesday and a vigil service at 8 p.m. on Thursday evening. Louis George Eisler
Louis George Eisler, died Monday June 15, 2009 at the age of 81. He was born June 20, 1927 in St. Johns the son of Louis and Maude (Grubaugh) Eisler. Louis was a graduate of Rodney B. Wilson High School, in St. Johns, Class of 1946. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was an Army veteran, a member and former Commander of VFW Post # 4113, a member of American Legion Post #153 and a member of the St. Johns Honor Guard. Louis was a former board member of the Clinton County Credit Union and a retired Federal Mogul employee. On June 16, 1951 he married Virginia Pung and she survives him.
Also surviving is one son, Dean of St. Johns; two daughters, Shirley (Michael) Sipkovsky of Perry and Linda Arent (Brian Plassey) of Lansing; three grand children; Monica, Jordan and Nathan Sipkovsky and one great grandchild, Aydin.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 am Friday, June 19, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church 109 Linden, St, Johns with Rev. Fr. Douglas Osborn as Celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery with military honors provided by the St. Johns Honor Guard. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-4 and 6-8 pm Thursday with a vigil service at 7:30 pm at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns 989-224-4422. Barbara Schafer
Barbara A. Schafer passed away June 14, 2009 at the age of 76. She was born in Ionia, Michigan on September 12, 1932, the daughter of John J. and Beatrice (Stoddard) Howorth. On September 22, 1956, Barbara married Henry Schafer in Pewamo. Barbara was a member of St. Joseph Catholic parish in Pewamo, Michigan.
She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Goerge and Diane (Robert) McKinney; her sons, Keith (Tina) Schafer and John (Denise) Schafer. Barbara is also survived by her grandchildren, Brandy (John) Murray, Sherri Schafer, Jennifer Schafer, Danielle Goerge, Abigail Goerge, Samuel McKinney, Allison McKinney, Heinz Kirkpatrick, April Bensel, Crystal Bensel and Janelle Bensel; 12 great grandchildren; brothers Roy (Pat) Howorth and Charles (Joan) Howorth; special friend, Doreen Lewis and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her sister, Rosemary Howorth.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 18 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pewamo, burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery also in Pewamo with the Rev. Fr. Preston E. “Pres” Odette
Preston E. “Pres” Odette Lansing Age 62, our loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away unexpectedly June 13, 2009 at his home. Born October 25, 1946 in Clio, MI. Preston retired in 2007 as publisher at the Lansing Community Newspapers after 16 years of service. He had also worked in advertising for 20 years at the Gaylord Herald Times. He received his bachelors degree in history from Saginaw Valley State University. He served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and Great Lakes freighters; but most of all his granddaughters were his pride and joy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Preston Jr. and Margaret Odette.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Jeanne (Bugenske) Odette; 3 children, Kevin T. Odette, Stephanie M. (Michael) Epps, and Brian H. Odette; 2 granddaughters, Emily and Madeline Epps; brother, Gregory Odette.
Visitation is from 2-4, 6-8 p.m.. Monday with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service in the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing. Funeral Liturgy is 2:00 p.m.. Tuesday, June 16, at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Willow, Lansing with Fr. John Klein presiding. Viewing will be from 1:30 to 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at church. Donald W. Thelen
Donald W. Thelen Saginaw Twp. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Friday, June 12, 2009 at Covenant HealthCare Harrison Campus. Age 83 years. Son of the late Julius and Rosa (Spitzley) Thelen, Donald was born December 25, 1925 in St. Johns, Michigan. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and a member of American Legion Post #439 and D.A.V. Donald married Anne K. Kudella, his loving wife of 56 years, on May 9, 1953. She survives him. Don had been employed at Orkin Exterminating as a branch manager for 28 years. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and served as an usher. He was also a member of SS. Peter and Paul Athletic Association and coached Saginaw Township North Little League Baseball.
Surviving besides his wife Anne are two sons and their spouses, Michael E. and Laurie L. Thelen, Midland; David M. and Dawn M. Thelen, DeWitt; four grandchildren, Christopher (Karen), Kristin, David II (Katy) and Katrina Thelen; his great-granddaughter, Mali Shea; two brothers and two sisters, Kenneth and Janice Thelen, Fowler; Richard and Rosemary Thelen, Mt. Pleasant; Thelma and Hilary Simon, Westphalia; Gladys and James Armbrustmacher, Fowler; two sisters-in-law, Rita Thelen and Therse Thelen; several nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by two infant sons and two brothers, Stanley and Elmer Thelen.
Funeral Liturgy will take place 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 109 Linden Street, St. Johns, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy and Rev. Fr. Dwight Ezop will officiate with burial in Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, Michigan. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Johns, Michigan from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. A Rosary Service will take place 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Alzheimer`s Association , American Diabetes Association or St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
