Grand opening of the City Hall Auditorium

This is a view of the auditorium just before it opened at the St. Johns City Hall, located at the corner of E. Walker St. and Spring St. The photo was taken just prior to the American Legion Auxiliary banquet January 18, 1940.

The spic and span new hall was equipped for use as a theater, auditorium, dining room or dance hall. Planners had in mind that this would prove to be a popular spot in the future history of the town.

The old City Hall is now privately owned and is currently the home of the Banquet & Conference Center and Ortman’s Photography & Video.
