On July 22, the Looking Glass Fire Department helped Habitat for Humanity of Clinton County reach a milestone in the building of their home at 8949 Herbison Road in Wacousta, by “raising the roof.”
The entire department came out to ensure the job was done right and completed the roof in just one day. With their fire trucks close by, the group was assured they could help out Habitat while being ready to serve any potential emergency that may have emerged in the community. Fire Chief, Don Fox, was rightfully proud of his team stating, “we are very happy to be able to help out in our community.”
In addition to Chief Fox, the others who lent a hand were Firefighters VanHorn, Hensley, Dahl, Hansberger, Simmon, Maloney, Mike & Bill Fabiano and John & Bernadette Burne. They wanted to recognize and thank local Pepsi distributor, Corey Henningson, for providing drinks for the group during their big day.
The project began on June 18 and will run to mid-October. Habitat is extremely grateful to the many volunteers who have worked on this project so far, including Lyle Heaton, Mike Bender, Chuck Truesdell, Mike Hurst, Mike Fillinger, Mike Feldpausch, Marv Arnst, Dale Nowicki, Dan & Gwen Vincent, Don Adams, Gary Andrews, Roger Bair, Glenn DeYoung, Dan DiPietro, John Maahs, Ron & Pat Smith, and Steve Vertalka. Homeowners Michelle Zielinski and Keith Hurst have also donated their time to the build of their home. In all, they will give at least 500 sweat equity hours to the project as part of their partnership with Habitat.

Habitat is still in need of volunteers and donations for this project. Those interested in any aspect of the project may contact Sue Carroll at 517-669-8248 or habitatclinton@yahoo.com for further information.
