Connor Michael Moinet
Connor Michael Moinet, precious 5 month old son of Chad M. and Cynthia A. (Rhode) Moinet of St. Johns, MI, went to be with the angels Monday, June 29, 2009. Connor was born January 22, 2009 in Lansing along with his twin sister, Chelsea Ann.
In addition to his Mommy, Daddy and sister, Connor leaves behind his loving grandparents; Steve and Sally Lackey of St. Johns, and Mike and Brenda Moinet of Ithaca, and Edward Rhode of Coleman, MI; Uncles, Matt & Brent Moinet and Ted Rhode; Great grandmothers; Deloris Rhode of Shepherd, Jeanette Powers of St. Johns, Barbara Viges of Ovid and Esther Vollmer of Mt. Pleasant, MI.
Connor was carried home by the angels to the waiting arms of his Grandmother Connie Ann Rhode of Coleman.
Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Friday, July 3, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Kathy Leydorf officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home on Thursday, July 2, 2009, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Memorials may be given to the family for the charity of their choice.
Samuel C. Anderson
Samuel C. Anderson, 82, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Ovid, electrician, died June 2.
Memorial services 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Johns Lutheran Church, St. Johns. Arrangements by Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns.
Alice L. Love
Alice L. Love, 97 of rural Laingsburg MI, died Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Ovid Healthcare Center. Alice was born on March 13, 1912 in Lansing, MI the daughter of Paul and Grace (Thomas) Remus. She graduated from Eastern High School in 1930. On December 23, 1933 she married Verlin Love. Alice loved gardening, reading, needle work, playing cards and especially her family.
She is survived by sons A. Paul Love of St. Johns and Jack (Karen) Love of Laingsburg; a daughter, Janice (Don) Hettinger of Ovid; grandsons, Brian (Theresa) Hettinger, Jeff (Brenda) Hettinger, Patrick ( Jane) Love, David (T’Ann) Love, John (Enna) Love, Dean (Jennifer) Love, Kent (Diego) Love, and Chad Love, granddaughters, Lauri (Brian) Stephens, Kathy (Chad) Wilkins, Chris (Al) Ward, and Connie (Mike) Walter; 30 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandsons; sister in law, Elsie Bowerman and brother in law, Eddie Lukas. She was preceded in death by her husband Verlin in 1988, grandson Craig Love, daughter in law Lois Love and sister Doris Conklin.
Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johnson Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Greg Buchner officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ovid. The family will receive friends at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 30 from 6-8 P.M. and on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Memorials may be made to The Laingsburg Library.
John Strachota, Jr.
John Strachota, Jr., age 74, of Elsie, Michigan died Friday, June 26th, 2009 at Ingham Regional Medical Center , Lansing, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, Michigan on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Keith Whipple will officiate and burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel on Monday 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.
John was born in Bannister, Michigan on September 11, 1934, the son John Joseph and Suzanne (Podmajersky) Strachota. He graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1953. On September 12, 1953 he married Arlis Miller in Elsie, Michigan. John was a farmer and he retired from Federal Mogul in St. Johns in 1989 after 33 years of service. He resided most of his life in the Elsie area and was a member of the Z.C.B.J. Lodge #225 Bannister, Michigan and he also enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife Arlis Strachota of Elsie, 1 daughter Janet Kay and Jerry Fabus of Monterey, Tennessee, 1 son John C. and Sue Strachota of Elsie, 7 grandchildren 16 great grandchildren, 1 sister Alice and Al Thelen of St. Johns. He was predeceased by his parents, and sister Irene Mach. Memorials may be made to the Z.C.B.J. Lodge #225 Bannister, Michigan in his memory.

Madelyn A. Warren
Madelyn A. Warren, age 95, of rural Maple Rapids, went home to be with her precious Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 from Masonic Pathways in Alma, Michigan. She was born February 1, 1914 to Herman and Alma (Roberts) Smith in Lebanon Township, Clinton County, Michigan.
Madelyn married F. D. Warren, Sr. on January 13, 1931 and had lived in the Maple Rapids area all her life. She loved working with her husband on their farm, was a wonderful mother, a beautiful seamstress, enjoyed playing the piano and cards, dancing, crocheting and gardening. Her home always had flowers blossoming in nearly every room. As a young lady she sang solos at many local gatherings including the Maple Rapids Congregational Christian Church where she was a member. Madelyn was one of the founding members of the Maple Rapids Amica Club. After retiring, Madelyn and F.D. spent many enjoyable winters in Florida.
Madelyn in survived by her two daughters, Nancy (Don) Allen, and Cathy (Bruce) Boughner, and daughter-in-law, Lois Warren all of rural Maple Rapids, nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Glynn Warren of Lansing, and sister-in-law, Mary Jane Warren of Marshall. She will be greatly missed by all of them. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 58 years, F.D., her son F.D. “Bud” Warren, Jr., granddaughter, Karen Elaine Warren, and sisters, Maxine Floate and Mable Chapman.
As per her wishes, Madelyn was cremated. There will be a memorial graveside service at the Sowle Cemetery at a later date. Sympathies may be expressed in the form of memorial contributions to Masonic Pathways, Alma, Michigan. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Johns Chapel St. Johns, Michigan.
Norbert J. Schrauben
Norbert J. Schrauben, age 89, of St. Johns passed away June 24, 2009. He was born in Riley Twp., on June 16, 1920, the son of Christopher Schrauben and Bernita (Pung) Schrauben-Cook. He was the co-owner and manager of Rayborn True Value Hardware in Belding, MI, retiring in 1982 after 27 years. Norbert married Florence Kiskey in Belding on December 6, 1944, and she preceded him in death in 1982. He was a member of both St. Joseph Catholic Church in Belding and St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns, a past member of the Belding Chamber of Commerce and a Veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard.
Norbert is survived by two daughters, Susan Christopher of Warner Robins, GA, and Beth (Bill) Swears of St. Johns, sisters, Mary Ann Hoy of Kalamazoo, Bea Gray of Grand Ledge, Theresa (Pat) Lawless of Harbor Springs, Joanne (Dick) Hofmann of Kawkawlin and Bernita (Gayle) Miller of Grand Ledge, grandchildren, Jeffrey (Deb) Swears, Dana Swears, Clay Christopher, Travis Christopher and Meghan (Kirk) Cornelius, great grandchildren, Jordan, Greg and Katie Swears and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his wife, Florence, his parents, Christopher Schraben and Bernita (Pung) Schrauben-Cook and four brothers, Maurice, Alvin, Paul and David.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m., on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns, with Fr. Dwight Ezop officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., on Friday with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 p.m. at Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorial contributions to Sparrow Hospice of Lansing or St. Joseph Catholic School in St. Johns.
