According to St. Johns Kiwanian Chris Bouck, chair of the club’s Mint Fest Tennis Tournament, registrations for the event are in keeping with the numbers of previous years and participation may well exceed last year’s figures. This is the tenth year the club has sponsored the competition which draws players from several counties throughout the mid-Michigan area.
This year’s tournament will follow closely the structure of past events over the span of the festival Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 14-16 and Kiwanian Chris Bouck is again directing the contest.
Bouck explained that both singles and doubles competition will be held in a number of divisions including boys 12-14, 15-18; girls 12-14, 15-18 and men and women 19-34 and over 35. In doubles competition, the divisions are boys 12-14, 15-18, girls 12-14, 15-18; men and women 19 and over. A mixed doubles category will be held if sufficient entries are received.
Competition is scheduled to begin Friday morning for all juniors followed in the afternoon for female doubles and male singles. On Saturday, male doubles, female singles and mixed doubles will be held. Doubles finish on Sunday will put a wrap on the tournament.

Tony Savage, center, visited the St. Johns Kiwanis Club recently to thank the members for sponsoring his Little League baseball team. While there, he assisted Grampa Tony Huffnagel, left, and fellow Kiwanian Dave Hunt in hamming it up in promoting the club’s upcoming Mint Festival Tennis Tournament.
