Heroes and our globalized federal government
by Barry Bauer
We have what can only be described as the strangest bag of heroes today.
When I was a youth my heroes were Al Kaline and Harvey Kuenn of the Detroit Tigers, Tobin Rote of the Detroit Lions, and of course, Ike. In later years it was Sen. Bobby Kennedy and Barry Sanders of the Detroit Lions.
Were my heroes flawed? You can dig a hole clean to Hell and you won’t find any dirt on Al Kaline or Barry Sanders. Finding dirt on Harvey Kuenn and Tobin Rote is difficult, but I’m still searching.
As for Bobby Kennedy and General Eisenhower . . . both of them are purported to have had extra-marital affairs. Along came President Clinton and made us forget about them.
At my age I’m not looking for heroes anymore. I’m more about admiring some of the people I know.
The younger generation has to reach into that hero bag several times before they can find somebody that remotely qualifies. Modern day heroes are having a hell of a time keeping the wrinkles ironed out of their capes.
That’s where Michael Jackson comes in.
Although I liked some of his music, I didn’t like him. First of all, crotch grabbing on stage in front of millions of kids should be left to those athletes who get injured in that area.
Because it was Michael Jackson — it was accepted.
All of the rumors about him and young boys doesn’t set well with me either. There’s no way an adult man should be cuddling with young boys as was reported during those famous sleepovers. I blame the parents of those kids just as much as I blamed Michael. What were they thinking? It’s as if they gave up their sons for financial considerations.
He was acquitted of child molestation charges, but money did change hands. You can bet on that.
Because it was Michael Jackson — it was accepted.
The question inevitably comes up, “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” Of course it does! Michael Jackson made a lot of noise in the forest, and nobody wanted to listen.
Because it was Michael Jackson — it was accepted.
Will I miss Michael Jackson?
I think I’ve already answered that question.
* * *
The only government representatives that have any contact with their constituents are at the state level. They should know what’s going on because they’re out and about and hear our concerns.
It’s looking like we’ve lost our federal government to globalization. There’s a move afloat to give Social Security benefits to all those illegal aliens who are in this country now while cutting back on Medicare payments and Social Security cost of living raises to the citizens of this country. I can only guess that they (the politicians) see future voters. The illegals are a burden on our economy and health industry.
And California wonders why they’re going broke.
Our federal government is working hard at nation building in other countries (mostly those with oil) and at the same time allowing our government to slip away into abyss.
It’s like they’re saying, “You guys take care of yourselves while we’re out spending your money helping those poor people in the Middle East.”
What a bunch of phooey.
Until the next time . . .
What do I think?
