Library Closure
Briggs Public Library will be closed on Saturday, August 15, for the Mint Festival. Look for the Library float in the parade, and visit the Friends Used Book Sale in the Green Pole Barn at the City Park. The book return box on the Library Porch will be available to accept all returns throughout this Mint Festival closure.
Junior Readers
Youth ages 7 – 9 are invited to Be Creative this summer at the next Junior Readers Book Club, Saturday, August 22, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Featured are a book discussion, snack, game and craft centered on the book Me Tarzan by Betsy Byars. Registration is free but required for this quality program. Be sure to pick up your copy of the book at the Library Desk when you register. Special Library Board Meeting
The Library Board of Briggs Public Library will meet in the Library on Thursday, August 27, at 7:00 p.m. to consider the revised heating and cooling proposals developed to save energy and reduce utility costs. This meeting is Open Meetings Act compliant.
Parenting Seminar
“Raising Financially Responsible Children” is a concern for most families, and Financial Services Professional Andrew Semrau, MBM, LUTCF, will offer parents some keen insights on Tuesday, September 15, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Library Meeting Room. Would you like to know how to teach children about the value and responsible use of money? If so, don’t miss this free seminar created by noted financial expert, television personality, and New York Times Best Selling Author, Neale S. Godfrey. During this informative program, you will discover age-appropriate ways to teach kids how to earn and appreciate their allowance, develop good savings and investing habits, separate wants and needs, become disciplined shoppers…and so much more! Creative Contests @ Briggs
Summer Reading Contests are wrapping up for 2009. Final Youth Guessing Contest Winners include Natalie LaBean with 33 pieces of “Magic,” Kyle Jorae who guessed 156 out 160 crayons; Jake Gregory, Sissy Merignac and Jessica Schafer who accurately estimated 56 brushes. Adult Reading Winners are Beth Chipchase, Larry Ciolek, Jill Griffet, Amy Gross, Stephanie Hein, Doreen Humble, Janelle Kessler, Donna Platte, Burt Warner, and Connie Watts. 28 adult participants have read 243 books so far. The Adult Grand Prize Winner will be announced after Labor Day.
Cake Walk Success
Our first ever cake walk garnered $72.00 with 20 cakes distributed. One thing we know for sure: there are creative people in the St. Johns Area! The cake voted ‘most popular’ by our patrons was “Franklin Takes the Cake” by Becky Chipchase.
