Wilma was willing and her performance approached record time!
Wilma, the featured attraction in St. Johns Kiwanis annual Peppermint Patty Plop, did what many previous bovine celebrities were hesitant to do – getting the show over with! But Wilma, a cow loaned by Greg and Sue Palen to Kiwanis for the event, had none of that. Echoes of the starting signal had barely faded from earshot when her act was over, and many in attendance holding tickets tore them up and strolled away.
There were six, however, who will for some time appreciate Wilma’s promptness. They are the cash winners resultant from her hastiness.
Mathew Rick, of DeWitt, was the big winner. His prediction of the exact square within the football size grid in which the happening would occur netted him $1,000.00. Cheri Theis, of Fowler was close and came away with $500.00. Four others, each nearby, thanked Wilma for $200.00 each. They were Gene Bellingar, Michelle Carey, Bev Ebenhoeh and Shirley Henning.
In the final analysis the Kiwanis Club itself was the true winner, garnering a net amount of $5,300.00 from 1,501 tickets sold. Co-chairs, Theresa Fedewa-Wells and Marilyn Thelen were quick to point out that proceeds from this project – as with all other Kiwanis ventures – are used in support of community programs and youth activities.
