Gary Biddinger
Gary L. Biddinger, 68 of St. Johns, MI died on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009 at Sparrow Hospital. He was born on April 18, 1941 at the family home in Pompeii, MI the son of Clayton & Marjorie (Dufflo) Biddinger. Gary graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School in 1959 and received his associate’s degree at LCC. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, owned and operated St. Johns Oil Co. in St. Johns for several years, served as Assistant Fire Chief in St. Johns, and worked on Clinton Area Ambulance as an EMT, taught heating and cooling at LCC. He was the chief mechanical inspector for the City of Lansing until his retirement.
Survivors are sons Dr. Alan (Dr. Michelle) Biddinger of Troy, MI, and Trevor Biddinger of St. Johns daughter, Cheryl (Geoffrey) George of Cedar Springs, MI; grandchildren, Elaina and Aaron Biddinger, Sean and Mitchell (Stacey) Smith, Johnathan and
Bryant Pontius; 3 great grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Alice) Biddinger of Caro, MI and a sister, Kathleen (Michael) Verlinde of St. Johns. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Scott Seelhoff and Pastor Dan Cameron. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, 6-8 P.M.
and Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, 9:00 A.M. until service time. Memorials may be given to Sonshine Community Church, 2615 N. Ovid, Rd., Ovid, MI 48866.
Alice C. McCausey
Alice C. McCausey died Monday, August 31, 2009 at the age of 81. She was born April 12, 1928 in Westphalia, Michigan the daughter of Bernard and Mary (Gross) Platte. Alice was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns, enjoyed
woodworking, refinishing furniture, crocheting and quilting. She was a homemaker, worked at Spartan Printing and was daycare provider. On May 17, 1948 she married Martin McCausey and he preceded her in death in 1979. She was also predeceased by her parents and one brother Herb Platte.
Surviving are five daughters, Nancy (Lee) Saxton of Perrinton, Julie (Jeff) Silm, Karen (Roger) Prior, Sue (Gene) Dunsmore and Colleen (Dean) Sharick all of St. Johns; two sons, Jim (Linda) of St. Johns and Tom (Jill) of Leo, IN; 21 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two sisters, Laura Stengenga of Portland and Marilyn (Gordy) Kiel of St. Johns; five brothers, Lee Platte, Julius (Pat) Platte, Steve (Sue) Platte all of Portland, Stan (Jane) Platte of Fowler and Paul Platte of Laingsburg.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 3, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church 109 Linden St. Johns with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy as Celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow in Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 2-8 p.m. Wednesday with a Rosary prayed at 7:30 p.m. at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home.
Robert L. Pohl
Robert L. Pohl, age 80, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away on August 31, 2009. He was born on November 5, 1928 in Grand Ledge the son of Anthony and Dora (Rademacher) Pohl. Corkey was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Westphalia and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was a veteran of the U.S Army serving in Germany and a member of the Fowler, Pewamo, Westphalia V.F.W. Post #3939. Corkey retired from Consumers Power in 1988 and was a life long farmer, living his entire life on the family homestead. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law Red Beachnau and Steve Schafer; sister-in-law Lorraine Pohl.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Marie (Schafer); children Cheryl (Randy) Thelen of Westphalia, Sandy (John) Winans of Westphalia, Dean (Ann) Pohl of Riverside CT, Lynne (Kevin) Wieber of Westphalia; grandchildren Shane, Nicolas, Amber Thelen; Paige, Brad, Travis Winans; Phoebe and Charlotte Pohl and Brooke, Brandon and Blake Wieber; sister Jeanette Beachnau; brothers Anthony (Ellen) Pohl and Elvan (Mary Ellen) Pohl; brother-in-law, Don (Geraldine) Schafer; sister-in-law, Sr. DePaul Schafer; many nieces, nephews and friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. James Conlon at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Septemeber 3, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will be in St. Mary Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m., Tuesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Wednesday at the St. Mary Funeral Chapel. The rosaries will be prayed at 8 p.m., Tuesday and 3 p.m., Wednesday. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m., Wednesday. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to Austin’s House or the Westphalia Fire Department in memory of Mr. Pohl. The family is being served by Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.
Ernest VanDeusen
Ernest W. VanDeusen died August 28, 2009 at the age of 102. Ernest was born April 9, 1907 in Shiawassee County, Michigan the son of Andrew and Minnie (Webb) VanDeusen. He was a World War II Army veteran.
Ernest is survived by his brother, Lewis VanDeusen and many nephews and nieces Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Glen VanDeusen and two sisters, Hattie VanDeusen and Shirley Tomlinson.
A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Monday, August 31 at Fairfield Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Ovid Healthcare 9480 E. M-21 Ovid, Michigan 48866. Arrangements are provided by Osgood Funeral Homes.
