Habitat for Humanity ReStore in St Johns is preparing for their Grand Opening. Organizing, taking in merchandise, planning and preparing for bringing the building up to code have been some of the numerous tasks that have been undertaken. Those that have seen the progress have been impressed by the St Johns ReStore. Cleanliness, Organization, quality of merchandise and the low prics are typical topics of praise.
The ReStore has been working hard on getting the word out. Their website is: www.restorestj.com and features news, hours of operation, map, and their inventory (pictures, descriptions and prices).
Special news events can also be found on their facebook page: St John ReStore. New Inventory, special sales and activities will show up there. The latest addition to their web presence has been their blog (www.restorestj.com/blog). Their blog features articles about: Saving $, Design Ideas, Conservation (Energy and Recycling), New Inventory and ways we can help one another. One recent blog also announced a “Design Contest” that goes through September 24th with the winner receiving a $25 Gift Certificate to the St Johns ReStore.
All Summery long we’ve enjoyed and benefitted from the Youth Works! program, but that has now come to an end. We are steadily rebuilding our staff with people from Michigan Works! The ReStore welcomes volunteers (agest 16 and up). Volunteers can help in several ways. We need people Monday through Friday (until our Grand Opening when we will add Saturday to our schedule) from 9-5 (Hours will be from 10-6 after the Grand Opening).
Workers are needed to staff the sales area (assisting customers, keeping areas clean and organized), assist in processing inventory (making lists, cleaning, labeling, moving to the showroom), and helping in the office (computer work with Microsoft Excel, Word, Internet [Craigslist and Website Updates]). “We are looking for people who can work one or more days a week who are willing to help out with a project that can help everyone in their community”, says Paul St Louis (ReStore Director). “We will provide the training and help them to learn new skills. For the unemployed we can provide another reference and job experience for their resume.”
The inventory has grown tremendously due to the generosity of individuals and businesses throughout Clinton County. “We could use more working appliances and furniture” St Louis says. “People who’ve been hit hard by the financial struggles in our State our looking for replacement appliances or furniture; or are just starting out and have very little ‘discretionary’ income.” Those who donate receive a receipt for tax purposes. Donations can be delivered to 2352 N US 27 in St Johns Monday – Friday from 9am-5pm (Closed Labor Day). Those with large items or a large quantity can contact the ReStore (989) 227-0000 and schedule a free pick up.
“With people in the community stepping up, we’ll be able to have a ReStore that the entire county can benefit and take pride in”
