Thanksgiving recipes and Christmas decorations are making the local scene, but members of the Briggs Library Foundation are already into next April. That’s when a prominent television personality, award winning chef-restaurateur and cookbook author will visit St. Johns as guest speaker at the Foundation’s fourth annual Honors and Authors night.
Eric Villegas, who from 1987 to 2007 owned and operated two of mid-Michigan’s most unique award winning regional restaurants – Dusty’s Wine Bar and Restaurant Villegas – will not only speak at the event, but will conduct a special food preparation display along with a book signing. While details for the event are yet to be completed, Tuesday April 27 has been confirmed as the date.
Since debuting on Michigan Public Television in 2001, Fork in the Road with Eric Villegas has offered viewers recipes, cooking tips and culinary history based on the Great Lakes food scene. In late 2007, the show began national distribution on PBS along with his companion cookbook.
Villegas’ scheduled appearance, arranged for by board member Blake Anthes, will continue the level of quality speakers consistent with the Foundation’s annual honors night. As in the past, the special event is designed to recognize supporters of the foundation and to bring awareness to the Foundation’s efforts at funding a long-term endowment program for Briggs Public Library.

Eric Villegas, TV personality, chef and cookbook author will be the featured speaker next April at the annual Honors and Authors night. Blake Anthes, center, along with board members Sara Morrison, left, and Donna Apostol review the service agreement confirming Villegas’ appearance. Morrison is director of Briggs Public Library.
