A clash of names identifying two St. Johns holiday activities resulted in one partial name being changed from Winter to Snowflake. What began a year ago as Clinton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary’s Winter Wonderland is now Snowflake Wonderland, but the theme and holiday spirit remain the same. Meanwhile, Auxiliary members are already deep into planning the second annual Snowday at the Emerald, set for Saturday January 30. More on that to come.
The newly named Snowflake Wonderland is a one-day special sale, Friday Dec. 4, on the same day as the traditional parade saluting the arrival of Santa to the city. Hours will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and vendor items range from specialty to practical, from holiday to routine. Kathie Clock Auxiliary Co-president explained that last year’s turnout for the sale prompted the need for more space. The upcoming event will be held in the UAW Hall and an increased number of vendors is expected.
Currently, eight vendors have confirmed participation. They are, Gold Standard Jewelry, Heartland Herbs, CMH Gift Shop, Simply Natural Soaps, Quilt Shop, Pampered Chef, Mary Kay and Tupperware. Discussions are underway with other vendors to join the sale.
“We were unaware that the holiday activities held at the St. Johns Conference Center carried the same name – Winter Wonderland – until this year,” commented Ms Clock, “but we’re happy to make the change. Not just in the spirit of the season, but in the spirit of community.”
Ms Clock and Shelley Gunther are co-chairs of the Snowflake Wonderland event.

CMH Auxilians Mary Ann Ellickson, left, and Cindy Knight, target Dec. 4 on their calendar as the date for the group’s second annual holiday sale, Snowflake Wonderland.
