Ron Caris started at Federal-Mogul on October 31, 1961. He was working in the Powder Foundry when this photo was taken.
The St. Johns plant didn’t have a Powder Foundry when they started up and had to get their powder from the Greenville plant. St. Johns was so successful they finally added one to the building. This operation took ingots of copper, tin, and lead in different quantities and turned it into a fine powder. The powder was spread on steel strip and sent through a bonding oven.
The people that worked in the operation had to be tested regularly for lead content in their system and when it got too high they were temporarily transferred out until the lead levels went down.
