Sturgis goes to Detroit

Significant promotions involving three Clinton County men were announced this week by Kermit Hart, manager of the St. Johns division of Federal-Mogul-Bower Bearings, Inc.

Jack H. Sturgis, quality control manager for the St. Johns division, has been named head of quality control for original parts for the entire Federal-Mogul division of the company. His headquarters will be at the Detroit offices of the company.

Mr. and Mrs. Sturgis and their two daughters, Beverley and Barbara, make their home here at 507 S. Swegles Street. They will move to the Detroit area as soon as they find adequate housing.

STURGIS, a native of Fowler, began his career with Federal-Mogul here as an employee in the inspection department, serving as group leader and foreman before he became quality control manager.

He served in the Marine Corps in World War II and following his return to this area he operated a radio store in St. Johns. He attended the Fowler Public Schools and is a graduate of the St. Johns High School. He also attended Grand Rapids Junior College.

SUCCEEDING Sturgis as quality control manager at the local plant will be Lawrence A. Merignac who has been associated with Federal-Mogul here since June of 1950. He is currently foreman in the inspection department and has previously served as a group leader. He began work for the company as a press operator.

Merignac is a native of Clinton County and a graduate of St. Johns High School. He was employed by the J. C. Penney Co. here before he joined Federal-Mogul.

Mr. and Mrs. Merignac make their home on US-27. They are the parents of three children—two daughters, Lynn and Susan, and a son, Douglas. [Note: Lynn was a boy.]

REPLACING Merignac as foreman of the inspection department will be Gale D. Redman, another Clinton County man, who has been associated with Federal-Mogul since 1947.

A native of Essex Township, Gale is a graduate of St. Johns High School. Mr. and Mrs. Redman live at 805 East Baldwin Street here and are the parents of a son, Daniel, and a daughter, Rita Rae.
