1964 Soap Box Derby – End of the Line
by Barry Bauer
This was the end of the line for the 1964 racers just past Railroad St heading north. Notice in the background a Great Northern boxcar and above it was the old watch tower that was knocked down by a train/semi truck accident. The building currently belongs to Chris Cook.
Also seen in this photo are the two train crossing lights that we made a u-turn around when we dragged main back in the 1960s.
I didn’t take these Soap Box Derby pictures but I was there that day. That’s my 1957 Chevy convertible with a black top parked by the crossing light.
