Gavin W. Becker

Gavin W. Becker, age 24, passed away on June 25, 2012 in Lansing, Michigan. Gavin was born on January 25, 1988, the son of Robert and Sally (Sillman) Becker. Gavin suffered a devastating brain injury on June 22nd. Gavin had a love of music, animals and art. He had a great smile and an open heart. He accepted his friends without judgment. Gavin was drawn to the broken, the misunderstood and the lost. He identified with those who struggled. He assisted at the Recovery House in Lansing, Michigan. Gavin became a Hero on June 25th by donating his organs to the Gift of Life. His gift created a miracle and answered many prayers.

Along with his parents, Gavin is survived by his sister, Kayla Becker; brothers, Lee (Andrea) Becker and Glenn Becker; his grandmothers, Joan Becker and Kay Sillman and nephew, Griffin Becker. He is also survived by loving aunts, uncle and dear friends. Gavin was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Luke Becker and Barry Sillman and cousins, Brooke Becker and Nash Sillman.

Mass will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday, June 29, 2012 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler with Fr. Dennis Howard presiding. Gavin’s family will receive friends 1 – 5 and 7 – 9 P.M. on Thursday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes. Rosary will be prayed at 3 P.M. and a scripture service at 8 P.M. on Thursday. Memorial contributions will be made to a charity of his family’s choice.

Forrest I. Hunnicutt Sr.

Forrest I. Hunnicutt Sr., 72 of St. Johns died Sunday June 24, 2012 at his home. Forrest was born on Sept. 27, 1939 in Knox, IN the son of Delbert and Leah (Bailey) Hunnicutt. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked as a plumbing inspector for Associated Government Services, retiring in 2008. Forrest enjoyed NASCAR and collected oil lamps and cookie jars. He was a member of the American Legion post 131.

He is survived by Noreen Hunnicutt, daughter Liz (Joe) Stevens and son Ivan (Suzy Green) Hunnicutt Jr. all of St. Johns; step Children, Steve (Cindy) LeDuke of Carson City, MI, David (Kim) LeDuke of St. Louis, MI, Lynn Thoma of St. Johns, Patricia (Vincent) Vitek of St. Johns, Grant (Roxanne) LeDuke of Ovid; grandchildren, Taylor Stevens, Hunter Stevens, Domanic Hunnicutt and Dale Hunnicutt; several step grand and step great grandchildren; sister Olive (Tony) Fisher of Plymouth, IN, Ruth (Alvin) Hanselman of Plymouth, IN, Phyllis Burkett of North Manchester, IN., and brother David (Matty) Hunnicutt of Knox, IN. He was preceded in death by brothers Harry, James, Norman and Walter Hunnicutt and grandson, Josh Thoma.

The family will receive friends and relatives at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 from 6-8 P.M. and on Wednesday, June 27, 2012. 2-8 P.M. Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.

Dale Crosslan

Dale Crosslan, 95 of Ovid passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Grace Haven Assisted Living Center in St. Johns. Dale was born on May 7, 1917 in Delaware County, IN the daughter of Jesse and Sadie (Dale) Tuttle. She graduated from Charlotte High School in 1934. On May 8, 1937 she married Delmer Crosslan in Angola, IN. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1999.

Dale had worked at several restaurants in the Charlotte area, and during WWII she worked in communications for the military, served as Village Treasurer and Village Clerk in Ovid for several years, had worked at Maron’s IGA, Dietz Nursing Home, and worked and did volunteer work at Ovid Healthcare Center. Dale was a member of the Mothers Club in Charlotte, the Ovid ACME Club, made sugar cookies for many people and enjoyed playing euchre and being around her grandchildren.

She is survived by daughters, June (Marvin) Sommer of Lansing, MI, and Janice (David) Koenigsknecht of St. Johns; grandchildren Marci (Van) Fox of Lansing, Traci (Matt) Bergeon of Mason, Dace (Christie) Koenigsknecht of St. Johns and Juli (Dan) Chant of DeWitt; step grandchildren Alan (Chrissy) Sommer of Hamtramck and Toni (Sam) Sheppard of Lansing; great grandchildren Danielle Tynan, Jackson, Spencer and Grace Fox. Ashton and Caitlin Bergeon, Dakota and Cheyenne Koenigsknecht and Jordyn and Paityn Chant. Step great grandchildren, Luke and Sophia Sommer. Dale was preceded in death by 3 brothers, 2 sisters and great granddaughter, Sadie Bergeon.

Memorial services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, 11:00 A.M. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 3, beginning at 9:00A.M. until service time. Memorial contributions may be made to Ovid Public Library or Great Lakes Hospice.

Roger Eldon Pease

Roger Eldon Pease, born to Harold and Martha (Weir) Pease on July 13, 1941 in Lansing, MI passed away peacefully in his home on January 28, 2012 surrounded by his family after battling liver cancer. He graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns, MI in 1960. He lived in Huachuca City, AZ for 13 years after moving from St. Johns, MI.

Roger retired from General Motors, Lansing, MI after 38 years of dedicated service. He was most recently employed for 13 years by Huachuca City Elementary Cafeteria and was affectionately known as “The Lunch Lady”. Roger was also an active member with The Huachuca City Lions Club where he held the offices of president and vice president. The Huachuca City Lions Club has established an annual memorial scholarship in his memory. He participated in many community events and was known for his spectacular cooking. He was also a past member with the Alma, MI Elks Lodge for 25 years.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sharon (Argersinger-Johnson) Pease, daughter Shantelle Pease of Huachuca City, AZ, his daughters from a previous marriage; Rogina (Jeff) Davis of Tucson, AZ, Shellie (Jeff) Cerecke of Sierra Vista, JoellynnPease of Tucson, AZ, Bridgette (Adam) Ritchey of Sierra Vista, AZ and Quintina Gulledge of Tucson, AZ, granddaughters; Danisha Green, Brianna Sullivan and Brooke Lynn Gulledge of Tucson, AZ, and Aniah Kaye Pease-Kessler of Huachuca City, AZ. One great grandson Camryn Green of Tucson, AZ, brothers: Harold (Sue) Pease of Ovid, MI, and his twin Richard (Diane) Pease of DeWitt, MI. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles, and his beloved dogs; Luther and Lucy Bell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Martha Pease of St. Johns, MI, son Michael Pease, daughter Mariah Pease and grandson Ky Ritchey, all taken too early in life.

Roger’s Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, MI with Pastor Audie Clairmont officiating. Please join us to celebrate his life as we say goodbye to a special man loved by so many. There will be a luncheon following the services at the Church of the Living Word, Ovid, MI.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the family’s choice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel, St. Johns, MI.
