The St. Johns Independent

Meridian Community Band to provide a bang-up 4th

Concert in the Park

The Meridian Community Band will be on hand to help the St. Johns area celebrate during its traditional Independence Day festivities at the City Park.

The Meridian Community Band was founded in 1977 as part of the Okemos Community Education program and became an independent organization in 1983.

The Band will perform under the direction of Carolyn Sherrill. the musical director. She has held that post since 1990. Because of Carolyn’s emphasis on continuing education and musical growth, the band has significantly expanded its repertoire to include a wide variety of contemporary, popular and classical band literature. Her commitment and attention to detail has allowed the band to evolve into a mature and highly respected community organization.

The 4th of July concert in St. Johns completes the band’s regular season which will begin again after Labor Day.

Join your friends and neighbors at the Park next Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. to celebrate this year’s Independence Day in style.

Concert in the Park is sponsored by the Clinton County Arts Council and the city of St. Johns, with support from the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Concerts are held each Wednesday evening, beginning at 7 p.m., in the St. Johns City Park. The St. Johns Lions and Lioness Club staff a concession stand that offers light refreshments. All concerts are held rain or shine.
